You believe that you read a verse that rings strongly within you BUT, when you go to search for that verse again, you cannot find it.

I have not read the entire Bible (NIV is the version I read)
I do like to cross reference the KJV
I topic search for whatever topic surrounds my thinking each day.

If it has, there is two possible explanations:
#1 I read it online from one of the countless versions available....Even The Bible app keeps giving me the daily verse in ASV sometimes.
#2 A verse I did read has a personal meaning that makes it speak in a way that cannot be explained.

There is a good quote that states:
It’s not what you look at that matters, It’s what you see. (Henry David Thoreau)

Another good analogy that puts this into perspective is,
For people who are married to the love of their life, they see the most beautiful person in the world but they would be lost for words trying to explain why they think their husband or wife is more attractive than Hollywood’s best of the bunch.

My wife is more attractive than Hollywood's best of the bunch because her beautiful heart inside transcends the beauty outward radiating into a healthy glow. No lost for words here.

That like the saying. Cleanliness is next to GODLYNESS , I though it was in the BIBLE , BUT NO, BUT I still THINK IT IS A true SAYING

This could be because you are working with two versions of the Bible. (NIV & KJV)

What verse are you looking for?

I encourage you to look at the bible differently. That is great you reference it when you have questions in your every day life, now go a step further. Start with Genesis and make God's Word the center of your life.

Instead of just seeking advice, learn of the great accomplishments and disasterous failures of the Israelites. Read through all the psalms that king David composed in worship to his Lord. Learn of all the prophets that God spoke through to His people and their warnings.

Live like Jesus Christ did. The four gospels of the bible are the story of God coming here to earth to live among us. Make Christ the most important thing in your life. Have a relationship with Him that goes beyond that of even your own friends and family.

All the things that happen to us in this life are temporary. Our wealth, friends, and joys will all be done with the day we die, gone forever. Only that which we do for God will last for eternity.

Early in my walk with Jesus, this would happen on occasion. As I matured in my walk, I learned to make notes of a Scripture that touched me in a certain way, or that caused me to see something I had not seen before. Keeping notes is the best way to avoid what you are speaking of I believe.

As for cross reference, I do not usually do that. I pretty much stick to my KJV. There is far more contained in it than I will ever completely digest. Can not imagine adding a new translation to the mix. Sometimes, I believe, that can be useful, but it can also be information overload. Especially as words are changed from translation to translation. Yes, I know the KJV is also a translation, but it is the one I grew up with, and the one I turn to to study the Written Word of God, and to discover the Living Word of God.

This may be close to it; Psalms 51;10, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Do you not have a hard copy of the Bible?
Keep it handy.

I always use KJV because other translations DO omit verses. Its shocking how incomplete some versions are. I wouldnt refer to NIV, its like the reader digest version. You are basically reading a novelisation.

I also found when others referred to the NASB, and I looked up that verse, it would always be worded so completely differently to the KJV it was almost as if the NASB had changed it. KJV always resonated but NASB was like a totally different language

That would totally confuse me. I always stick with KJV when reading and quoting scripture.

Even CEV people would just take liberties with and miss out important words, which made mockeries of memory verses especially with children.

It is much better to know the meaning of the true doctrine than to know the exact spelling and phraseology and reference. Describe what your verses are about and perhaps we can find the Book, Chapter, and Verse for you. We are here to help each other with these sorts of things. Godspeed!:)

Really? I have heard others say good things about NASB. They say it sticks pretty close to the KJV. Do you happen to have any examples of difference right handy that I can look into?

Agree totally! If you look at the Bible as a big dictionary, defining just one word “God”
As opposed to just a bunch of stories.

Maybe once only. Sometimes, I think of a verse and look it up, but I don’t find it till I do an exhaustive search. That said, there might have been one instance when I never found the verse. I think it might have happened because I used a different Bible translation during the original reading from the one I used later to do the search. Some words change from one translation to another. Keep that in mind.
