Well considering the Bible was the most referenced book during the talks and delegations of the Declaration, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and State Constitutions.

Consider the words of James Wilson, a singer of the Declaration, the Constitution, and served on the original Supreme Court.

Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. Far from being rivals or enemies religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistance. Indeed, these two sciences run into each other.
  • as quoted in The Works of the Honourable James Wilson (Philadelphia: Bronson and Chauncey, 1804), Vol. I, pp. 106 & 103-105.

Popular opinion has changed. Events have come and gone.

But the Word is the same and its mark on our civilization is indelible.

First of all, the survey was of the American nation, not the American continent.

Second of all, ANY poll is based on the law of averages. They survey a random sampling of persons across the nation from different socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, etc. and the results are representative of the whole population.
