Perfectly all right.... good, clean fun. It's fun to see peoples' reaction to well shot targets... especially if it's with an old clunker, or an out of the box cheapo. I work with a guy that just bought an AR... he HAD to get a Colt, because it's just SO much better quality. I can't wait to go shooting with him, with my $560 DPMS.... (which cost me nearly 700 cause I bought it during the Obama scare a couple of years ago:rolleyes:)

I used to raise some eyebrows shooting my iron sighted Mosin Nagant carbine at 50 yds, getting nice, round 2" groups..

I can't talk I guess. I HAD to get a Daniel Defense...and I have no regrets.

It wasn't badly priced either.
 
I just started figuring. Okay, if I get "such and such" AR, I'm going to want a different trigger. A DD stock. A DD rail. A DD pistol grip. Etc.
 
And then there are those big braggers who like to uptalk their expensive gun and down talk cheaper ones, then when they start pulling the trigger... their high and mighty firearm repeatedly jams. Yesss....

LOL. Totally.

My super cheap, Turkish-manufactured 1911 clone has never had a single malfunction, and didn't need a single bit of break-in period. There are guys at the range with really expensive, custom 1911s and they talk about how they need "about a thousand rounds to break it in", and it stovepipes at least twice per mag. Funny.
 
So many people seem to be under the impression that more expensive means more quality. But then I goes if I paid thousands of dollars for something that turned out to be jump, I would be trying to convince myself of it as well.

You chose wisely... you got what you wanted. I'm not a "cheap" snob, either. I'd love to have a Wilson 1911, or a Freedom Arms single action in .45 Colt, or a Linebaugh, or a Bowen... Unfortunately, my wife and I like to eat, also. So, I get what I can afford, and don't worry about what others think of it..

I've heard really great things about Daniel Defense stuff.... pics are needed!

I need to re-blue the barrel on my 7.92 Mauser (rifle), any of yall done that before? I haven't, so I'm a little confused as to what method is the best.

1911 divas are some of the funniest gun people out there. They keep tricking it out to the point it's useless and you just have to smack your head and think "all for 6-8 rounds of pistol ammo?"

Glock fanboys are funny as well that way. Any time you out-shoot a serial customizer with a factory Glock is a good day.

Handguns in particular can only really be optimized to a point.

Yeah, I've got some lying around somewhere. Unfortunately it's at my parent's place so making a new one is currently impossible. Here's a stock photo though.

Just picture LWRC irons affixed to the front and back and you're good to go. I have a vertical foregrip, but have yet to install it. Need a new picatinny rail piece installed.

I guess my taste in firearms is a reflection of my personality. I like things understated that can make their point when a point needs to be made. Aside from my 10/22 rifle, which is "hey look at me" only because I built it around an 80% receiver and it's my way of saying "[explative] you" to the Federal Government, the rest of my collection is very subtle. Everything is black, plain, and goes bang when I pull the trigger.

Probably the best is to find a good gunsmith that does hot-bluing, and get him to do it for you... probably will cost less than $100...

Or, if you want to do it yourself, there are a few options... if you have a lot of time, and want to do it "old-school" you could set up and do a rust-blue.. but I think that takes a couple of weeks. It's supposed to give a really nice finish, though.

Another option is to do a cold-blue... the best of which is Brownell's Oxpho-Blue, I think. I've done a couple of small parts with that, and it works really well on them.

Like any of these projects, bluing is about 98.5% preparation, and 1.5% "doing".... If you don't prep the metal properly, you get less-than-optimal results.

I've always wanted to try the rust-blue thing, but haven't had anything to try it on...
 
My first attempt did not post. Here is what it looks like only mine doesn't look as pristine.

I think that gun smith idea of yours is the best, though it would have been fun doing it all by myself, but I think I'm too clumsy.
