I feel sorry for just everybody involved in law practice in any way these days. You have to be EXTREMELY careful what precedents you set, but everyone from all sides is yelling to hurry up and get this or that result NOW, and if we don't get the result we want we gonna riot.
This is a good one though , in practice , what it means is this : someone who owns a prison or a woman's refuge or even a changing room in a clothes shop , can if they wish , deny a transgender person , access to those women / man only places , without being prosecuted for discriminating against transgender people .
The supreme court basically had to decide on what is the definition of a woman . Previously , a man could have what is called a G.R.C. , gender recognition certificate and was therefore legally allowed to access women only spaces . Now the GRC does not define that someone is a woman . Now , only people who have been born as females r classed as female and have the right in the law , to enter female only spaces .
I don't know much about what goes on in our state schools but , I've just read an article in our news which seems to imply that schools have had lavatories that have been accessable by both genders 😵 this is going to change 🥳 back to the single gender lavatories and changing rooms etc of my childhood .
This was never about discriminating against trans people , it was about keeping women safe , often women who have been severely traumatised by domestic abuse from a man .
In the U.K. we have a very well know charity called Rape Crisis . It was set up by and intended to give every kind of support possible , to women who have been sexually abused . Up until this ruling , transgender male to females had the right to enter that women only space , now they don't .
Once upon a time a transgender male to female , had to have all the surgeries and hormone replacement therapies in order to b classes as a woman . Until this ruling , any man , literally any man , without any surgeries or therapies , can identify as a woman , get one of those certificates and enter any female only space . Not any more 🥳 thanks to God .
