I thought this post was going to self destruct.
The sabbath still applies in the New Testament but it is not a physical sabbath but a spiritual sabbath by Holy Spirit.
Col 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Jesus took the physical ordinances of Israel and nailed them to His cross taking them out of the way for they were contrary to us which means they have no bearing on spiritual salvation.
This includes the sabbath days for the sabbath day is a physical ordinance to celebrate this earth and included in a physical covenant.
Luk 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Luk 17:21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
The kingdom of God is within you when you receive the Spirit and you belong to the kingdom of God.
Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Jesus went away from the earth to prepare a place for the saints that is spiritual and involved in a spiritual covenant.
Isa 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
Isa 28:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
When a person receives the Spirit it is a spiritual rest and the refreshing yet many people would not hear but said to keep the sabbath which the Bible says let no person judge you concerning the physical sabbath for the body is of Christ and spiritual.
In the Old Testament it was a physical sabbath, a physical rest, and in the New Testament is is a spiritual sabbath, a spiritual rest by the Spirit.
When a person receives the Spirit they are obeying the sabbath.

Keep going, don't stop - SEE, HEAR BELIEVE the words of Christ, who said that the death penalty for working on God's Sabbath Rest is still in effect today.
Can you find that Scripture verse in the Gospel where the Lord said this.
In the Old Testament they could not work if it had to do with profiting themselves but they could work if it had to do with love of other people like feeding and clothing them, or helping them if they received a physical ailment or was hurt.
But I will study the scriptures more to find out the truth of not working on the sabbath day.
Any day can be the seventh day. It just depends on which day you start work. No hairsplitting necessary. That ain't the way Jesus rolled. We have a new and better way now. We call it Christian Liberty.

Yes maturity in brotherly love is always an admirable and inspirational quality and is evident in his spirit
Amen we live the sabbath every day who rest in Christ and his word Of faith and strength

if we are the children of God then the sabbath was made for us to rest and not as a rule that is used to condemn us to death
“Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord:
whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.”

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

there’s always rest in Christ , and working good is lawful anytime or any day if we are serving one another we’re approved even on a sabbath to lift a burden for a friend or stoke a fire to warm our friends and family we live each day as a day to be kept holy now and rest in Christs ways and word now ll the burden is gone we can just focus on Jesus now he will never lead us astray
we don’t have to go back to beieng told what sin is now @ Thou shalt not do this evil or that evil
now we can get to know the true God because of the knowledge Jesus Christ gave us

it’s odd how Christians don’t understand they are followers of Christ alone who paid for thier sins with his shed blood and suffering on the cross
and how the gospel of Jesus Christ is God revealing himself to mankind who believe and look intently into Christ they will always find the image of God and begin to understand and know him in truth everything is based on faith believing the gospel that is the sabbath of mankind and why that is what’s preached in the world until the end for salvation
Moses had given a fiery heavenly law but Jesus spoke the words of God those full of grace and truth
Am I the only one who is tired of this pointless discussion? The Law came through Moses. Grace and Truth came through Jesus Christ. The Law is the shadow. Lord Jesus is the reality. (Colossians 2:17). If you want to live in the shadows, fine. I prefer the light.
Please read carefully - i AGREE with you but you have not read carefully enough to understand this statement:

Jesus would not say that the death penalty still exists for people today if they work on the sabbath because He took the sabbath days away nailing them to His cross.
The physical sabbath days no longer apply but a spiritual sabbath by the Spirit.
The day of the week sabbath under the Law has been removed from over us - AMEN
But we all missed it when HE said it - Read and find it the Gospel of John ch3
i work on Saturday and Sunday - i am not under the curse of the Law.
Christ fulfilled the Law for us and made it obsolete by nailing it to the cross.
The penalty of death for those who work on God's Sabbath Rest is still in effect - Read it in John ch3
Let me know if you can see it - It is not about the day of the week.
Christ is God's Sabbath, and if we honor the day that His Father especially blessed it for our sake's, we also bless the Lord.
In the OT, fleshly things were given to show the spirit of the Lord. We are in the new covenant, and heart to heart with the Lord. It isn't the fact that we spend a day of physical rest, but that we spend a day of devotion to belonging to the Lord, not our flesh.

Christ is the 7th Day on which God Rested = Can you find and Post the specific verse that states this in the Gospel of Matthew.
Jesus said not one jot or tittle would he remove from the law. And here in the above quoted verse I see one small, but very important mistake.
It says in the original verse 'A' Sabbath, not 'The' Sabbath day.
This is not referring to THE Sabbath Day of the 10 Commandments, but the special Sabbath days or High Holy Days.
I've written extensively on this on the 'Seventh Day Adventist are they a Cult?' Forum--I was not standing in support of SDA, but rather THE Sabbath Day as one of the 10 Commandments.
To say Jesus is our Sabbath rest and that we don't have to honor the 4th Commandment is essentially saying we don't have to keep the other 9! Jesus as our Sabbath rest is not giving us a physical day of rest--rather it is rest from the Works of the Law--it is a spiritual rest. Jesus as our Sabbath rest also speaks the heavenly kingdom where we will have our FINAL REST.
"For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome."--1 John 5:3
The Sabbath is not only a day of rest, it is also a day when we remember and honor God's wondrous work of creation. If you read Acts it says 'as was Paul's custom' was at the synagogue on THE Sabbath Day. Both Jew and Gentile believers gathered on that day as an assembly at the synagogue. The believers also met together daily. Why don't we follow their custom instead of following the law that was instituted by Constantine and having Sunday, the first day of the week be our rest day instead of Saturday?

One thing I observe is that so often Christians simply parrot what they've been taught, and unlike the Bereans do not carefully study the matter for themselves.
I have always attended church on Sunday until I left the institutional church and began to study for myself--removing the lens of what I've been taught--and one of those things was the SABBATH. I could find nothing in Scripture that says we do not need to honor the Sabbath--it is still one of the 10 Commandments, written by the very finger of God in stone (which signifies perpetuity)--and it is not 'burdensome' as Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath.'
There is nothing wrong with setting aside a day that you want to honor the Lord! Just as long as you are not doing it as in observance to the do's and don'ts of keeping the Law, but rather love for God!
This is why Paul said not to judge another by them esteeming a holy day that you choose not to observe. All the Law is fulfilled by faith in Christ, we are not under the do's and don'ts of the Law, but under Grace, justification by faith.
I myself am partial to Sunday! I try not to work on that day and set it aside as a day of respect and honor toward God. I am not observing this day Holy because the Law said so, I am voluntarily choosing this day in view of God as my Saviour.
If another says I observe all days alike, meaning every day is the Sabbath in Christ, then Paul said not to judge this person in the way they have chosen to observe God.
You say you are "Tired of this pointless discussion. " Then why are you here discussing it?
How is discussing God's Word ever pointless? It seems it is only those who believe they are right think it is pointless. We are not under the Mosaic Law, however Christ has called us to keep the Commandments--all not some. We don't obey the 10 Commandments in order to obtain Salvation, we obey the law out of Love for our Lord and because he commanded us to do so.

Hmm. As is usual, my post was not really read--just quickly responded to. Why do would you choose to rest on Sunday--a day appointed by Constantine as a day of rest, instead of the day God instituted us to rest? Furthermore, why rest on any day? Why keep any of the Commandments? Why not go on 'sinning' that grace may abound?
LOL, that is exactly what Paul explained to us! Don't judge anyone if they observe a day holy that you don't.
