The ancient Hebrew language, which the old testament language was written in, did not have vowels in its alphabet. It was a consonant only language. So, in the original Hebrew, God's name translates to, YHWH. Without the use of vowels, there have been much debate by scholars on how to pronounce it. There are many church leaders who claim, "Jehovah" to be the true pronunciation of YHWH. Let us be mindful of the biblical fact that there is no reference against using God's name nor are there commands in which we should do so. YHWH, is as close to a personal name as God has revealed to us. As far as commanding us to call Him by YHWH, well its just not scriptural since the authors of the Bible, who were inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote many other names and titles for our Heavenly Father. ***Remember, it is more important to know God through faith in our Savior Jesus Christ, than to know the correct way to pronounce God's name in Hebrew.

The sacred name movement
This movement was started by the Church of God(Seventh Day) in the 1930's and teaches that only "Yahweh" is to be used for the name of God and only "Yahshua" to be used for Jesus. The strong emphasis being placed on the names of God and Jesus is unbiblical. This "sacred movement" fails to understand that our Savior came to fulfill the old covenant and establish the new covenant. Our salvation is not based on how to properly pronounce God's name in Hebrew.

Exodus 3:14 "God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." Moses boldly asks God who should he say sent him to Israel, expecting the people to ask such a question. God's response to Moses reveals to us two things: 1) God wants a personal relationship with His children. 2) God is self-existent, having life in Himself, with an unchanging eternal nature.

Most common names of God:

Elohim Means Creator, mighty and strong. Its the plural form of Eloah which affirms the doctrine of the Trinity.

Adonai Its probably more accurate to say that this word is used as a description of God or as a title of respect.

El Shaddai Speaks to God's ultimate power over all.

Jehovah Most scholars agree that the meaning is, "He brings into existence whatever exists." Remember ancient Hebrew did not use vowels in its written form. The vowels were pronounced in spoken Hebrew, but were not recorded in written Hebrew. The vowel sounds were passed down orally, resulting in scholars and translators not having absolute confidence in certain Hebrew words and how they were pronounced.

Final thoughts
It is not crucial for the Christian faith to properly pronounce YHWH. Because of just the four letters, known as the tetragrammaton, no one has figured out how to say God's name. Today, many in the Jewish community, have stopped trying to pronounce God's name outloud in fear of taking His name in vain, Leviticus 24:16. The many names and titles of our Heavenly Father, each has different aspects of His nature, which when we study and understand them, can help us better serve Him.

Our heavenly Father’s personal name, the tetragrammaton, occurs 6,828 times in the Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament). The NT writers placed no emphasis on preserving it in the New Testament.

Elohim Means Creator, mighty and strong. Its the plural form of Eloah which affirms the doctrine of the Trinity.
Elohim is plural in form but may be either singular or plural in meaning, depending on the context where it is used. When used of our heavenly Father it is always singular in meaning. (All English translations recognize this and so render it.) Elohim is a title, and many persons besides our heavenly Father are afforded the title in scripture. Some examples: Moses (Exodus 7:1); idols (Exodus 20:23); judges (Exodus 22:8); the golden calf (Exodus 32:31); the Messiah (Psalm 45:6); Dagon (1 Samuel 5:7); Chemosh (Judges 11:24); Ashtoreth, Chemosh and Milcom (1 Kings 11:33); Baal-Zebul (2 Kings 1:2); angels (Psalm 8:5); rulers (Psalm 82:6). I’m not sure why you think it affirms the doctrine of the Trinity. Perhaps you could elaborate on that.

It is not crucial for the Christian faith to properly pronounce YHWH.
I agree. If it were crucial then I think the NT writers would have made the fact clear.

That reminds me of how my mother scolded me because I didn't say "in Jesus name we pray" at the end of a prayer.

Isa 52:5 Now therefore, what have I here, saith the LORD, that my people is taken away for nought? they that rule over them make them to howl, saith the LORD; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.
Isa 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.

Joh 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
Joh 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Joh 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

Heb 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.

The Father said in the Old Testament that He would reveal a new name to the Jews, and speak to them, which Jesus told Philip if he has seen Him he has seen the Father, and the words that He speaks are not His own, but the Father that dwells in Him, He does the works.

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Act 8:14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Act 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Jews, Gentiles, and Samaritans were all baptized in the name of Jesus.

Joh 5:43 I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Heb 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Heb 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Jesus is the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Jesus is God's name which Jehovah represents physical deliverance, and Jesus represents spiritual deliverance, so the name Jesus is a higher revealed name to the saints than Jehovah for a benefit to them.

Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
Eph 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come.

Jesus is the name that is above all names, not only in this world, but also in the world to come.

Call God Jesus for it is His name.

1Ti 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
1Ti 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
1Ti 6:16 Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.

Rev 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

Jesus has a name that we will never know for that part of God cannot be revealed to us for we will never be omnipresent, or omniscient, or all powerful.

Joh 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.

Jesus told the disciples when He resurrects to heaven to not ask Him anything, but only ask the Father, and He will give it you.

So we are only to ask the Father and not ask the Son, and the Father will do it.

Joh 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

But in these scriptures Jesus told the disciples when He resurrects to heaven to ask Him, and He will do it.

Figure that one out people that believe in a trinity.

When Yahweh told Moses this appellation, Yah said the He would be what He would be. Because of understanding given, it seems reasonable that all of the other titles attributed to our Maker are just as valid.

Concerning the ancient Hebrew or Paleo Hebrew in which the Holy Scripturas were written, not only are there no vowels, there were no spaces between words and sentences. mnamsjk for example my name is Jack.

I love to call our Maker Yahweh because I understand what I am saying when I say it. It is akin to the gerund form of the infinitive, to be, in the active sense of the word. That is, He will s to be.

All names are nothing more, originally, than attributes either hoped for in a person or prophesied of the person. Now they have become nothing more than labels for people in place of titles.

If there is such a thing as a name for our Maker read Zephaniah and discover that one day, come th Kingdom, the Lord will return a pure language to all people so they may call upon Him with one name, one accord.

Just as I like to call Jesus, Yeshua. I am aware of the attributes afforded by the name, Yah my Redeemer. I know that Jesus is the evolution of the same name, words, but it is only a transliteration and not the translation to our tongue.

Even when a person is intellectually mistaken on a title for our Father no man should fault any calling upon Him in spirit and truth for this is how Yahweh receives the calling, not by man-s mind along.
