My step-daughter became an adult while we were working missions and she joined with us for a while running the mission homes.
The following year she was doing well in the Academy and it came time for their senior prom. She told me she wanted to go, but she didn’t trust anyone at school or around the mission. I told her I would pray about it and try to get her wishes fulfilled. After praying I kept getting your fellowship church has the answer. We fellowshipped with the Church of God (Seventh Day) out of Denver, Colorado. The only church within 50 miles was Spanish speaking only, which we did fellowship a few times.
So, I obeyed God and we went to a Sabbath service there. After the sermon, I shared my problem with the pastor. I knew they had a very large congregation in San Jose with a lot of English-speaking youngsters. We also had references from Southern California. The pastor said he would stir someone in San Jose up and we’ll see what happens. One fellow was talked into coming up to see about it, and a friend accompanied him. They called and we met them at the Spanish church one Sabbath, I had arranged for them to come to the mission for lunch and talk about it.
I think they both thought she would be a real dog, if she couldn’t get a date. Both young men were surprised she was so beautiful. The friend that had come with the respondent decided he was going to try for the date also. We had lunch and let them talk. She was too nice to turn anyone down so she would not decide between them. I finally settled it by giving it to God by drawing lots, like they did in the Bible. They agreed, and the secondary fellow won the date. He rented a new Ford for the night of the prom. God supplies and it goes well.
