GIVING/ OFFERING

If we all sought His direction on giving and walked it out there would be no sermons on needs.
I've heard figures such as 10% of the people do 90% of the giving.

How about if we just feed the sheep God's word chapter by chapter and verse by verse and let them hear what God has to say rather than the words of men. Don't ask for donations. Put a locked donation box in the hallway and let the people decide whether or not to donate based on whether or not they feel they got fed God's word.

Having been in ministry many years, and having been in hundreds of churches in America and Canada, unfortunately you will find the average Christian will spend more money on their dinner at the restaurant after church than they give when the plate passes. If you aren't being "fed" you can move to another church. That is seldom the issue. We have so much that we don't focus on giving to God's work. It's a great pity because we lose a blessing when we don't give.

A version of a joke my father has told often in services that makes the point.


One Sunday, a preacher was speaking on what it would take for the church to become better. He said "If this church is to become better, it must take up it's bed, and walk." The congregation said "Let it walk, Preacher, let it walk."

Encouraged by their response, he went further. "If this church is going to become better, it will have to throw aside it's hindrances and run!" The congregation replied, "Let it run, preacher, let it run!"

Now really into his message, he spoke stronger. "If this church really wants to become great, it will have to take up it's wings and fly!" "Let it fly, Preacher, let it fly!"
the congregation shouts.

The Preacher gets louder. "If this church is going to fly, it will cost money!"

The congregation replied. "Let it walk, Preacher, let it walk."
