in your view, how does a slow lowering and raising of temperatures kill humans? I think ancient humans show an amazing ability to live all over the world, from arctic to tropical conditions.

how does noah's ark save him from the slow freezing and thawing?

Hi Dan,

Not that I'm entertaining the idea of Noah's Ark being anywhere in the vicinity of the Ice Age, but while we know humans have a crazy ability to survive in adverse conditions, there are still some limits. For example, even the Vikings travelled to warmer climes in the Winter and then returned to their homeland when the weather was kinder (still their kind weather would've been rather cold). I imagine people in the Ice Age-affected areas did something similar.

Here is the Truth. Those who do not believe the Creation story as told in the Word of God, DO NOT BELIEVE the Word of God. PERIOD. Do Not listen to them, Because they do not believe God, they believe men and what their own intellect teaches them, they rely on their own understanding and do not have the Understanding of God in them. Before the Truth is revealed to any person, they MUST FIRST in Faith believe the Truth that the Word of God plainly tells them, those who doubt the Word of God will not be able to grasp the Truth, they are devoid of the TRUTH because they do not believe the TRUTH of Scriptures. Let the ignorant claim they know the Truth, and they will still be ignorant when the Truth is revealed to them. And that Truth is The Word of God is TRUTH, what it plainly teaches happened exactly as it said it did.

Jesus turned water into wine, INSTANTLY. Jesus created thousands of fish INSTANTLY. Jesus created thousand of Bread INSTANTLY. He created these things INSTANTLY. Will you then argue and debate with God? If the Holy Scriptures plainly teaches He created these things INSTANTLY, why is it so hard for you to believe the Word of God when it plainly teaches God created the Earth in 7 days? Because the TRUTH is not in you, doubters of the Word, they are, seeking for PROOF and not as a child believing in FAITH that what the Word of God says is TRUE. They are ignorant of the TRUTH, Do not listen to them. Do not listen to anyone who does not believe the Word of God and what it says. They are full of hot air, and their own ideals to what the Truth is.

Seems like during an ice age humans would end up ranging far and wide... An ice age would be a strange way to kill humans... And leave Noah alive.

I think animals and birds would be hard to kill, too.

so I'm trying to follow this... there's an ice age, which would make the sea level a lot lower... then the ice melts, the earth becomes much warmer, the sea level covers a lot more land... but this would happen slowly, wouldn't it?

not necessarily

I use "mainstream science" to mean what most textbooks, classes, scientists at secular universities would talk about.

interpreting scripture, yes! so... is it better to first read the story and see what it means, or decide what it means based on what we know from mainstream science?

the former

Valiant, there are so many reasons it couldn't be a local Flood, even a very widespread Flood.

no one suggested a 'local' flood.

Noah built an Ark over many, many years (it could've taken him 70 or so years to built the boat). He took two of every unclean animal kind and seven of every clean animal kind aboard the Ark. Why would Noah bother with any of that, if it were just a widespread Flood?

I seem to remember he obeyed God :)

He could've travelled from the East to the Americas in that time and have been well out of harm's way
.

LOL just pop over to America. I like it,

The Genesis account goes out of its way many, many times to show that the Flood was global.

Where does it in unassailable language?

Finally, water finds its own level.

but we don't know that level.

One of the most astonishing finds was the Berezovka Mammoth discovered in 1901 next to the Berezovka River in northern Siberia. This perfectly preserved creature was found in the upright position with fresh grass and tropical plants still in it’s mouth. It had been frozen and entombed in tons of ice so quickly that it didn’t have time to swallow and it’s mouth was full of tropical plants and grasses. The weight of the ice was so great that it’s pelvis and legs were crushed while it was still alive! Scientists believe that the preserved food in it’s stomach is proof that the temperature plummeted to at least -175F in a moment of time. It was frozen in the eating position . . . not in panic or a running position.
Nearby were an assortment of other animals . . . JUNGLE and TROPICAL animals including rhinoceroses, tigers and lions! Warble fly larvae were found in the stomach and intestines of the mammoth and these insects grow only in extremely warm climates. WOOLLY MAMMOTH

I believed that there must of have been a pole shift that has caused all sort of catastrophic events. Like volcanic activities has caused the creatures to boiled in the water and then a deep freeze came through to keep them from rotting causing the earth from smelling of death; and then molting lava came from the core as well covering the dead that were in the waters.

the water wasn't confined. The middle east bore the brunt of the water that was released from elsewhere.

assuming the flood is only in a local area, I think the water would have to be confined in order for it to get high enough to cover mountains or hills of any height. otherwise, I think it would simply flow away.

not necessarily

ok... let's suppose the earth was in an ice age, then warmed up really fast. in order to cause a flood that takes humans and animals by surprise, I think it would need to warm up in a day or so...

is there any physical evidence of a rapid warming taking place? what would cause such a rapid warming?

imo, it seems like it doesn't really fit with science very well, unless there's something I missed...

the former

good... because I too feel that it's best to first read the story and see what it means, then see what science has to say...

or, I can understand people who want to go with mainstream science, and just consider the stories myth, or based only on the knowledge available at the time...

no one suggested a 'local' flood.

if you want to quantify the size of the flood, I'm interested.

when I read that God said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground—man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky—for I am sorry that I have made them" it sounds like God is planning to destroy everything... so, just first reading the story, I'm thinking all-over flood. would that require a miracle? yes.

True. Biblical creationists believe Noah's Flood was the catalyst for the Ice Age. But the Ice Age didn't affect the Middle East and many other areas of the world, so Noah and his family wouldn't have been affected by the Ice Age (that is until they dispersed from the tower of Babel and travelled to the four 'corners' of the earth, of which some continents were affected by the Ice Age).

No one knows what happened during the ice age! see above. rapid cooling. rapid warming? who knows,

good, so there is a possibility of rapid warming or cooling.

is there any evidence from the polar ice caps of a massive thawing and re-freezing about the time of the flood?

in your view, how many feet/meters did the sea level rise and fall from this?

[1:1] In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth,
[1:2] the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters.
[1:3] Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
[1:4] And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.
[1:5] God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
[1:6] And God said, "Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."
[1:7] So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so.
[1:8] God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
[1:9] And God said, "Let the waters under the sky be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear." And it was so.
[1:10] God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.
[1:11] Then God said, "Let the earth put forth vegetation: plants yielding seed, and fruit trees of every kind on earth that bear fruit with the seed in it." And it was so.
[1:12] The earth brought forth vegetation: plants yielding seed of every kind, and trees of every kind bearing fruit with the seed in it. And God saw that it was good.
[1:13] And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
[1:14] And God said, "Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years,
[1:15] and let them be lights in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth." And it was so.
[1:16] God made the two great lights - the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night - and the stars.
[1:17] God set them in the dome of the sky to give light upon the earth,
[1:18] to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
[1:19] And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. The Book of Genesis
