Genesis 28

Isaac tells Jacob to go to Paddanaram to the house of Bethuel, his mother’s father and get a wife from the daughters of Laban, his mother’s brother. So Jacob does according to his father’s will. There, He has a dream in which God tells him he will get the land of Canaan. And Jacob makes a vow that is God will become his God if he can go back safely to his father’s house.

- As usual in the Bible, it is a relationship between God and one of his faithful servant!

- But in no way it can be a part-time faithful servant!

- It can only be a 24-hour faithful servant!

- Someone who is really looking for God’s word!

- And not an imitation of God’s word!

- And definitely not man’s word or tradition!

Genesis 29

Jacob meets Rachel the daughter of Laban, she comes with the sheep. Jacob waters her father’s sheep. Then he kisses Her and tells her that he is the relative of her father. And Rachel runs off and tells her father. So Jacob stays with Laban a full month. Jacob has fallen in love with Rachel so he works for Laban for seven years to get her. But Laban finally gives Leah to him because she is older. And Jacob must serve seven more years to get Rachel. Because Leah was unloved, God made her pregnant but Rachel was barren. And Leah Got four sons (Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah).

- We see Laban who accepts to give Rachel to Jacob!

- But he first gives him Leah because she is older!

- Then he gives Rachel as second wife but Jacob must work seven more years!

- They belong to the same family!

- But Laban tricked Jacob so he works 14 years in total!

- But Because Jacob is in love with Rachel he accepts to work seven more years!

- So at the time it was normal to give various daughters to the same man!

- It was quite different from God’s law!

- Thus from the beginning man used to turn God’s law into man’s law!

- In fact, men just followed Adam’s path!

- The easiest way!

Genesis 30

- Rachel is jealous of her sister Leah because she has children!

- She asks Jacob for children!

- So she tells Jacob to have relations with her slave girl Bilhah so she can have children too!

- And she gives birth to Dan!

- And then a second child Naphtali!

- And Leah gives Jacob her servant Zilpah who gives birth to Gad!

- And another son Asher!

- Reuben brings mandrakes to his mother Leah!

- Rachel asks for some mandrakes!

- So Rachel buys some mandrakes in exchange of a night for Leah with Jacob!

- And she gives birth to Issachar!

- And then another son Zebulun and a daughter Dinah!

- Then Rachel can get a son Joseph!

- Then Jacob wants to go back to his land!

- Jacob asks as wage every sheep speckled and with color-patched and speckled one among she-goats!

- So Jacob does in a way to get strong animals!

- And he becomes very prosperous!

- Maybe you remember the case of Samuel’s father who had two wives and there was fights between the two because his father preferred one and the other had children!

- Here it is the same story: Rachel doesn’t get children and she is the beloved one while Leah gets children!

- And both women are fighting!

- When men do according to their will, it means more trouble!

- But they always like it that way!

- That’s why we are where we are and why we are going where we are going!

- It is pure logic!

- Man will never understand except when God takes the control of the world’s affair!

Yes human history is a repetition and men keep doing the same mistakes they choose to do! it's their choice! That's why it is necessary to read both the old and the new testaments to understand how far we are from God's world! And we also need to remember what happened to the Israelites and the Jews, how they were rejected! The Israelites left Egypt and they were nearly eradicated but Moses prevented it but all the adults died in the wilderness because they didn't trust God and they wanted to go back to Egypt! And it will happen again and again!
Rise and fall of nations.
Genesis 19
The two angels arrive at Sodom by evening and they are received by Lot in his house. Before thy can go to bed, the men of the city – the men of Sodom from boy to old man, all of them – surrounded the house in one mob. They want Lot to bring them so they can have sex with them. But Lot offers his two daughters because the two men have come under his shelter. The two angels take Lot into the house and shut the door. And they strike the men who are at the entrance of the house with blindness. Then they tell Lot to go out with his family because they are going to destroy the city. But his sons-in-law don’t listen to Lot. And they force Lot and his wife and his two daughters to go away and they tell them not to look behind them. But Lot’s wife doesn’t care and looks behind her and she becomes a pillar of salt. His two daughters decide to give wind to their father and then lie down with him to get children because there was no man available in the area. And Lot isn’t conscious of what is happening. So they become pregnant. The two children become fathers of the Moabites and of the Ammonites.

- The men of Sodom from boy to old man!

- Is it possible to be more explicit?

- The whole population is contaminated!

- That’s why God decided to destroy whole cities and to exterminate the populations!

- Only Lot and his two daughters survive because they follow scrupulously what is told to them!

- Lot’s wife doesn’t care, she makes her own cooking but it doesn’t work, on the contrary!

- Same for us, may we listen scrupulously or not, they won’t be any surprise!

- God has warned human beings in his Bible!

- When he cleanses the earth, it will be like in Sodom and Gomorrah!

- No excuse!
2 Peter 3:7-13
King James Version

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

- Yes, but there is an important difference with Israel!

- Israel became a great nation because of a special relationship between God and Abraham!

- But Israel was not Abraham!

- Israel has always been troublesome!

- And they paid the price so many times!

Genesis 31

- Laban becomes jealous of Jacob because he is more prosperous than him!

- Then God tells him to go back to his land!

- Laban has tries to cheat him by changing his wages ten times but God has always favored Jacob!

- Then Jacob goes away without saying anything to Laban!

- And Rachel steals the teraphim statues belonging to her father!

- Three days later, Laban is told that Jacob has gone away!

- So Laban and his brothers pursues Jacob!

- At night, in a dream, God tells Laban to be careful with Jacob!

- Then Laban asks Jacob why he got away in such a way!

- He can harm Jacob but God appears to him to be careful!

- And Jacob explains he was afraid that Laban would take away his wives by force!

- Jacob didn’t know Rachel had stolen the statues!

- But Laban can’t find the statues!

- And Jacob tells that he has been a good worker for Laban but Laban hasn’t been acting properly with him!

- So they both make a covenant between each other!

- Finally Laban returns to his home!

- We can see that in terms of personal interests, problems always occur between men and it is the same among members of the same family!

- It is another example which shows why God must take the lead among men because they are unable to live in peace!

- They always get into trouble!

- It has always been so and it will always be so if God is not our leader!

- And he sends gifts to his brother that is many animals!

- Then a man begins to wrestle with him until the dawn breaks!

- But he doesn’t let the man go before being blessed!

- And the man tells that from now he will be called Israel because he has contended with God and at last he has prevailed!

- Thus Jacob takes precautions and he also asks help from God!

Genesis 34

- Shechem rapes Dinah and finally falls in love with her!

- He tells his father he wants to marry her!

- Then Shechem’s father goes to see Jacob and proposes marriage alliances and to share the land!

- But Jacob’s sons are angry so they ask for all the men to be circumcised!

- So the men are circumcised but when there were still in pain Jacob’s sons go to the city and kill all the men and take the animals and women and children and possessions!

- But Jacob condemns his sons because he fears that the inhabitants of the land will attack them and annihilate them because they are few!

- Here we can find the roots of Israel’s bad behavior!

- How is it possible to trust such people who were offered an alliance and instead killed many people while they are foreigners?

- God appears to Jacob and changes his name in Israel!

- His people will receive the land of Canaan!

- Rachel gives birth to Benjamin before dying!

- Reuben lays down with Bilhal his father’s concubine!

Genesis 38

- Judah takes a canaanite and have children with her!

- Her first child displeases God so he puts him to death!

- The second one has to take his brother’s wife and raises up offspring for his brother!

- But it is not going to be his so he wastes his semen on the ground so as not to give offspring to his brother!

- So God puts him to death!

- Judah is afraid that his third son will do the same and die!

- So his third son grows but Judah doesn’t give the wife of his first son to him!

- So she removes her widow’s clothing and veils herself and gets at the entrance of the city!

- When Judah sees her, he takes her as a prostitute and asks for relations with her!

- She asks him for his seal ring and his cord and his rod!

- Then she becomes pregnant!

- Three months later, Judah is told that her daughter-in-law is pregnant!

- So he tells to burn her!

- Then she shows Judah’s seal ring and cord and rod!

- He says that she is more righteous than him because he didn’t give her to her third son!

- She gives birth to twins!

- Once again we have a bad story of the sons of Jacob!

- Once again we understand their bad behavior!

Genesis 39

- Now Joseph was taken down to Egypt, and an Egyptian named Potiphar, a court official of Pharaoh and chief of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. But God was with Joseph. As a result, he became successful and was put over the house of his master, the Egyptian. And his master saw that God was with him and that God was making everything that he did successful!

- Potiphar is not stupid!

- He can see what happens when Joseph is in charge!

- It is refreshing to hear about faithful servants of God even if they are a minority!

- It would be easy to lose hope in humanity when we read the Bible and when we see how the world is going on!

- Joseph kept finding favor in his eyes, and he became his personal attendant. So he appointed him over his house, and he put him in charge of all that was his!

- A SUCCESS STORY!

- He eventually left everything that was his in Joseph’s care, and he gave no thought to anything except the food he was eating. Moreover, Joseph grew to be well-built and handsome!

- Which meant getting into trouble!

- Potiphar’s wife wanted to have sex with him!

- But he refused!

- Potiphar believed his wife and Joseph went to prison!

- But God kept looking after Joseph!

- So the chief officer of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners in the prison, and everything that they were doing there, he was the one having it done!

Genesis 41

- Then Pharaoh dreamed about the seven fat cows and the seven ugly, thin ones!

- And the second ones ate the first ones!

- A second similar dream but this time with seven ears of grain!

- But no one was able to interpret the dreams except Joseph!

- And Joseph told Pharaoh the interpretation of his dreams!

- Seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine!

- “So now let Pharaoh look for a man who is discreet and wise and place him over the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh take action and appoint overseers in the land, and he should collect one fifth of the produce of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. And let them collect all the food during these coming good years, and let them stockpile grain under Pharaoh’s authority as food to be stored in the cities and safeguarded there. The food should serve as a supply for the land for the seven years of famine that will occur in the land of Egypt, so that the land may not perish in the famine.”

- And Pharaoh put Joseph in charge!

- Pharaoh further said to Joseph: “I am Pharaoh, but without your authorization, no man may do a single thing in all the land of Egypt.”After that Pharaoh gave Joseph the name Zaphenath-paneah and gave him Asenath the daughter of Potiphera the priest of On as a wife. And Joseph began to oversee the land of Egypt. Joseph was 30 years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt.

- Thanks to God, Joseph became the second most influential man in Egypt!

- And Joseph got two sons Manasseh and Ephraim!

Genesis 6

- Some angels decide to go down to the earth and get married with human wives.
- As a consequence, God decides to reduce man’s life to 120 years.
- They have sons, the Nephilim, who are the mighty ones.
- Wickedness keeps growing to such a point that God decides to put an end to the human society.
- But he wants to save Noah who walks with God.
- He has three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.
- He tells Noah to build an ark to protect him from the flood.
Genesis 6 is a summary and conclusion of all of the events in Genesis 4 and 5. Believers during this time, including the named individuals in Genesis 5, became polygamous as they "took "wives of all", and as they were "marrying and giving in Marriage"(Matthew 20:38) they would have formed political alliances. By living for hundreds of years each would have fathered thousands of children during their own lifetimes and, as a result, became politically, economically, and militarily powerful in accordance with and in response to the dangerously violent world they lived in. We know they were "sons of God" because they "began to call upon the name of the Lord" back in Genesis 4 (see John 1:12), one of them "walked with God and was not"(Enoch, the prophet, and "7th from Adam") and all the named individuals of Genesis 5 were direct, named ancestors in the lineage of Christ.

In short, God's people(with the exception of Enoch and Noah) were living like the world. God did not destroy the world until the exact same year that the last of these believers had died (Methuselah) showing God's longsuffering by letting this man live longer than any other recorded individual. This man, Methuselah, was also the son of the man whom God "translated" (Enoch). If God "translated" someone because he "walked with God", that individual was definitely a "child of God" aka "son of God".

Angels do not marry and do not procreate. The "Nephilim" were simply very large/tall men just like the ones the Israelites encountered in the Land of Canaan were. God destroyed the world solely because the "wickedness of man was great" and the "earth was filled with violence". As to the reason for destroying the earth in a flood, Genesis 6 says nothing else besides that.

The chronology of Genesis is gorgeous and especially the circular time span from the birth of Adam in Genesis 1 to the first drop of rain in Noah's flood of Genesis 7 v11.

The clue for a more perceptive Christian is the life span of Enoch compared to the other Patriarchs as it hints at the structure of the genealogy and its purpose within the Hebrew work.

- Yes, that's defintely a tradition in the Bible to have very few exceptions compared to the majority!

- And it was the same among the Israelites!

- Yes, the Nephilim were hybrid!

- Yes, we are not told everything!

Hebrews 11:5 By faith Eʹnoch was transferred so as not to see death, and he was nowhere to be found because God had transferred him; for before he was transferred he received the witness that he had pleased God well.
Ok, So we see that Enoch was a contemporary with these "sons of God" which did these things "as men began to multiply in the earth". Was he not such a man of extraordinary by faith that he never had to die? If so, was Enoch not a "son of God" by faith? Let's zero in on Enoch........

Time period: "when men began to multiply"(quote from Genesis 6)
#1 In Genesis 4 (same time period) men "began to call upon the name of the Lord"
#2 John 1:12 says "But as many as received him(past tense), to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
#3 Do you reckon Enoch "called upon His name" when he came along? Seeing he was a believer who "walked with God"?
#4 Would you agree that only a "believer on His name" is going to "call upon the name of the Lord"? I mean, I didn't until I believed.
#5 Skip back to #2 and we'll see what "Enoch" was......

A "son of God" is a human being who "believes on His name". The Holy Spirit inspired it all from Genesis to Revelations. It all ties together. All of it.
