The literal interpretation of scripture is the default in our understanding according to 2 Corinthians 3:12 (kjv). The only time we are not to take scripture literally is when we are looking at an obvious parable or allegory in holy scripture.

In many churches who preach nigh on sinless perfection, the vast majority of perople in them come from more loving, secure backgrounds. They are then, statistically speaking far less likely to be accursed by what many consider ''tabboo sins''. They may well not drink that much, smoke, use foul language or have had extra marital affairs, and so, they try to convince themselves they are nigh on sinless. Of course, an act has to be put on during the church service, the real person cannot be shown

Yes, I have seen this much in evidence. People take the literal letter and are proud they stick with the partial literal letter of scripture. Paul was blameless according to the law (Philippians 3:6); but he counted that as loss in order that he might be able to find "the righteousness which is of God by faith" (Philippians 3:9)...which has to do with being transparent in front of people; so that IF people perceive you as being wholly sanctified, it is because the Lord has cleansed the inside of the cup and platter so that the outside my be clean also; and not that you have cleansed the outside of the cup and platter but within are full of dead men's bones.

Nice try. I am not misinterpreting anything, just quoting what it plainly states.
