1 John 1:8 is speaking of the element of indwelling sin.
We all have sin dwelling in us; however that element of sin can be rendered dead (Romans 6:6, Galatians 5:24, Romans 7:8) so that it no longer has any say over our behaviour (Romans 6:14).
We are not obligated to obey the flesh (Romans 8:12 (kjv, NLT)).
Therefore, when it comes to practicing or committing sin, it is possible to live a life of perfect holiness for an extended period of time; even for the rest of our lives (Luke 1:74-75); walking not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:4) in a consistent manner for an extended period of time.
The doctrine of the inevitability of sin, for the believer, is therefore a false doctrine and a heresy.

You are contradicting yourself here. From what you write you can only be righteous if you perfectly obey the law. The law is not based on faith Gal 3:12

By definition if you walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit, the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in you, so, no, you would not be committing sin in those moments.So when you follow after the Spirit you still commit sin?

So you cannot plainly answer the question, that is the problem isn't it, you get stuck eventually. If you had discernment you would see that not all sin is the same, in respect of intentionally going out to commit wilfull sin, and sin you are going to commit, though you do not set out with the intention of doing it, but it is a result of your inability to obey the letter of the law perfectlyIf I said yes then it would be a statement of rebellion against God, saying that I am going to commit sin as an act of my will.
