I have with an increasing degree of concern seen that lighthearted threads are being derailed by people failing to understand what the word ‘lighthearted’ means.

This is a thread where any attempt to make serious discussion about anything will be reported to the highest authorities.

I’ll go first.

I really need a cup of coffee before I fall asleep. Maybe two cups. Also I want to put a couple of miles between me and my boss.

Now you go!

Got my Kehrig at the ready and ready to brew another cup, third of the day. Currently prefer Newman's Own Organic coffee. Occasionally, I will put some Coffee Mate in it.

I like lighthearted threads. Hopefully, the flat earth peeps will stay away and not put a damper on things.

Probably @Lynx. He can be the judge, jury, and executioner. Well, maybe not the executioner. That's kinda extreme. He could probably give a time-out for the 1st offense though, and subsequent offenses, tell someone to stand in the corner.

I chose Government for my AP elective rather than Economics, but I agree that Economics should've been a requirement rather than an elective for "avdanced placement," as it would've been helpful for a more 'basic' placement in the community in general. If only they'd made it sound more appealing to the typical high school junior calling it something more like, "mo' money,"

I had to take economics in college, and I can't remember it teaching anything remotely useful.

In fact, I was taken aback when the professor specifically taught that you can take out as much debt as you want, as long you can afford the minimum monthly payments each month. All that mattered, he said, was that you could pay the minimum due. He didn't explicitly say it, but the implied conclusion was that when you die, it becomes someone else's problem, so why worry about it?

Unfortunately, I think a good number of people are taught this about money. But God doesn't tell us to take out debt up to our eyeballs and then leave it for someone else to worry about when we die.

I've listened to a lot of videos about how the entire system is designed to keep people poor -- even the notion of going to college, while necessary for some, isn't necessary for everyone, and therefore helps keep the machine running.

But alas... I just realized I wrote a very serious reply and am in danger of being reported!!

@Lynx , @Susanna, do your extra vehicles happen to look like this?

Just to let you know, I'm "borrowing" one of them, so that I can make a clean getaway.

If anyone acts up, we'll put them in the corner and tell @Lynx he has free reign to tell that person why why should be using Linux as an operating system, in as much detail as possible.

And if they're REALLY out of line, we'll then tell him that he has a green card to start giving them as many music references as he can think of...

It depends on how bad the offense REALLY is...

We'll have to adjust the circles/levels of punishment accordingly.

There aren't many things you COULDN'T talk about for days.

But that's the funny thing... You could talk for days without stopping... But I could probably WRITE for days unending, depending on whether I felt inspired.

If we can convince @Susanna to let us be the bouncers/enforcers in this thread -- faced with either suffering through you talking for days or having to read my writing for days -- or BOTH -- I'm pretty sure NO ONE will even THINK about acting up.

It is said that interest is the 8th wonder of the world so, if you factor in the interest you've paid in a lifetime...it might actually balances out...somehow?

Seriously, though!... I mean, lightheartedly though..! I ended up behind a smart car today (not much bigger than that toy car) merging off of the highway while another car was getting on. I was like, "why is this...*wonderful person...going so slow!!? and it's eventual merged onto the highway revealed that there was a tiny car in front of it and it suddenly occurred to me that not only I was at risk of rear ending it but an entire pileup might ensue considering all the other cars driving highway speeds while the smart car was cruising at 35mph, which I noticed is peculiarly the anthesis to any claim to smart...saving gas? ok, but...I wonder what value these drivers place on their lives in that economy? Lightheartedly, of course.

If I had a smart car and was driving on a two lane road, I would pull over every so often and let everyone else get past me. IF I had a smart car... I'm pretty sure I'm smarter than that though.

@seoulsearch I'm sorry but that has to be the worst financial advice I've ever heard. And the fact that it came from an economics professor is scary. Sorry @Susanna , but I can't help replying to this. The minimum payment is designed to be so small that it doesn't even cover the interest for each month so the balance keeps growing, and the minimum payment keeps growing and at some point the minimum payment will likely be more than one can afford to pay every month, and the interest will be more than the principal. It's a lose-lose situation.

It's said that Albert Einstein had this to say about compounding interest -- but only if you can learn how to get it to work for you, and not against you.
