James 1

The Purpose Of Tests

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

The Source Of Temptations

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

Faith Obeys The Word

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Love, Walter and Debbie

The scripture speaks a lot about faith and this is how I understand it:

Faith is a result of communion with the Lord Jesus, who as the author and finisher of our faith puts a mustard seed of faith into our heart when we first repent and believe. So, faith is that form of believing that is solely based upon the illuminated scripture and always produces works appropriate to repentance in those who have it.

That mustard seed of faith is, I suspect, that Jesus is our Saviour. Then as we spend time in God's word, which the Holy Spirit illuminates, here a little, and there a little; we believe more and more of what the Lord tells us, until we're able to pray the prayer of faith, believing on a promise of God to obtain a particular prayer request. The Lord, who wants us to grow so so much that even after we have the faith required to obtain the request, he'll withhold, so that we may learn to persevere. This will often make the Lord to be the God of the last minute.

One last thought, in 1 Jn 3:19-22 KJV, "And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then we have confidence before God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight."
One might say that a clear conscience empowers full power faith.

Holy Father, full of love and life, make your word to be the power of your might to our hearts and minds, transforming each of us more and more into the image of Jesus Christ, amen.

Holy Father, full of love and life, make your word to be the power of your might to our hearts and minds, transforming each of us more and more into the image of Jesus Christ, amen.
Knowing Jesus or not we all have been given the measure of faith "according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. "

Now in Luke Christ said “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.". What does the word "if" mean? Does not mean we already have it. See "if" we had faith the size of a mustered seed we could tell that tree to be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea and it would have to obey you. So think about that most do not have that much faith. That solider all he did was just believe Jesus words and Christ said "in all of Israel I've never found anyone with this much faith!". That was great faith.

Peter and John told all that were looking at them as if they healed that man said “You men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? Why are you staring at us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk? .....And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.".

They never took the time to tell that sick man all about Jesus and to have faith. That man was asking for money and since they stopped he expected to receive something. Oh and that is HUGE right there. Then Peter and John never once asked GOD or JESUS to do anything. Never prayed. They like us were given all power and authority over the enemy. To lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. What we have give I unto you in JESUS NAME! They believed had faith in that name!

Faith works both ways. People say "this never works for me, I will never get a job, I always get sick". That's faith.. and yeah lol stay away from me. You will hear GODS WILL. You can't toss out the bible and then say "oh well I guess it was Gods will". Gods word is Gods will. So you believe that bible is His word or you don't. And you find in all this you do not have the faith the size of a mustered seed. With out faith we can never please Him. Doubt is NOT of God.

Go back and read everything God was saying to Abraham would you have just believed? He did. God said it and Abraham never saw, felt anything he just believed he did not doubt. So wanna test then just read something in GODS word and believe. Do you know He said it do you know He will do it no matter what you see going on.. you never put Him on some time clock.

a amen faith is the word and can’t exist independently from the word like this

Anything he says to do and promises a result is faith

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days:”
‭‭Exodus‬ ‭10:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if Moses hadn’t heard what he said , he never could have obeyed what he said and never would have even had the thought to accomplish what faith did simple faith “ God said it I believe it , it will be as he said it will be “

sits the same principle always with Gods word of he says anything it’s going to for sure be like he said if he tells us the world is ending build an ark and be saved that’s true and if Noah obeyed him he would Be saved by faith believing ebat God told him about the flood and the ark of course he believed if I build the ark I’ll be saved that’s how faith works of we accept it as god spoke it it’s faith

ahead Noah said “ I have faith and believe so I don’t need to do what God said “ he wouldn’t have had any faith and would have drown

We have to hear the word of God to ever have faith is the point the word he says will work is faith

“By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

had boah tried the modern version of faith where you say “ I believe “ but then you explain “ this means I believe so I don’t need to do anything he said to do I’m already saved “ Noah would have drowned with the rest of the ancient world but he was saved by faith hearing and believing the lord

a faith is made of the word we have to hear it first and believe then the obedience is a by product

if only we could see the certainty of what he says

He commands life and death by his word

His word commands life and death
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
And he that was dead came forth,
bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.”
‭‭John‬ ‭11:43-44‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭5:41-42‬ ‭KJV‬‬

His word commands the wind and sea

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:39-41‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If we could be like the wind and like the sea we would walk in faith

his word commands spirit

“And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭8:29, 31-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

his word cleanses disease

“And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:12-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The greatest faith understands the authority of his word alone the creators word

“The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
….And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.”
Matthew‬ ‭8:8-13KJV‬‬

He speaks and it is infallibly so

“Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it came to pass just like he said in his word

We can believe the gospel and trust his word to change us and save us

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If Gods word is true and he declares things that are not as though they were then what does this become for Christian’s ? But a step of faith into salvation

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He said it and it is so and all the believers were saved by faith

you started off, if only we could see the certainty of what he says. to a believer, know this statement: "if you don't understand something, trust it"! Proverbs 3:5- 'i will TRUST in the Lord with all my heart......" faith is believing in the unseen realm. we know God's word by fatih. but it's more than that. we know His word thru witness of the Holy Spirit, obedience & experience.

Um yeah the Holy Spirit who preached the gospel and said believe me and be saved you mean ? The Holy Spirit of Jesus whom preached the gospel and said whoever hears my word and believes has eternal life ?

You talking about the holy spirit who came down from heaven and declared Jesus the promised son of God ?

“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭3:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This Holy Ghost ?

He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:31-36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Who preached this word ?

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63, 68-69‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:22, 24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You’re talking about the holy spirit who preached the gospel and will always remind us of , to learn from and always abide in and also share with others the things Jesus said in the everlasting gospel that saves the souls of mankind ?

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The spirit that sets men free

“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:31-32‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The gospel is preached by the Holy Spirit of Jesus the same one we receive when we believe the gospel like he said we don’t at any point seperate the holy spirit from Jesus and what he said they are one

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭

Even in the ot before he came from heaven to earth in Christ at his baptism he spoke through prophets about Jesus and the gospel

“searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭

And after Jesus ascended back to his glory in heaven he sent the spirit of Gods into the hearts of all believers of the gospel

simply when we think we know something it should agree with what the Bible says we can either accept what the word says and believe or try to figure it out ourselves and test it later when someone shares a scriptire with us

Gods word is the word of the Holy Spirit so I really don’t see the basis of what your getting at if we have the holy spirit we’re going to always agree with Jesus and what he taught and said about salvstion and judgement and everything else because it’s the spirit of him

we will learn from his word and grow in it or we’ll avoid it like he explained some would do the Holy Ghost will never lead us away from what he said in Christ when he came from heaven at baptism , preached the gospel

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:48-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

then gave the great commission returned to his glory in heaven

“I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”
‭‭John‬ ‭17:4-5‬ ‭

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16, 19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Knowing Jesus or not we all have been given the measure of faith "according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. "

Hey Blade...
Two things I disagree with your post.
1) when a person says, this never work, never get a job, and always get sick is not faith. That is just belief which is based on fear. Faith is that form of believing that is only based upon the illuminated scripture and always produces works appropriate to repentance in those who have it. For example; We're told "without faith it is impossible to please him." Can you even imagine that the Lord would be pleased if we say, I never get a job, or I always get sick? I can't.
2) It's easy to believe what the Lord said about others! But to make faith personal so as to obtain a prayer request, is a little different, isn't it? Its too easy to be double minded regarding a desired request unto the Lord who not only requires faith, but that we also persevere to obtain. Or what about those times when a person's heart condemns them, because the scripture also tells us, regarding prayer, "if our heart condemn us not, we know we have what we ask because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight," like walking after the Spirit. To say that he will do it, no matter what, ignores important scripture. Another example of unanswered prayer, would be: "ye ask and have not because ye ask amiss..." That's where the full council of God comes in and not just our favorite verses or the verses that we know about.
I wouldn't be surprised if that might be a reason for this scripture, "if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know."
I suspect that this applies to myself too, sadly... : ( lol

: ( lol

Its a unifying revelation when we realize we’re all in the same boat it tends to stop a lot of the squabbles in the boat so it doesn’t rock so much when we’re all passengers on the same ark and all have the same struggles and trials to go through together if possible

everyone has some role in keeping the boat headed in the right direction one guy talks way too much about the work of oaring , while another sits around and won’t help claiming it’s not thier job to oar and also tells the others “ don’t pick up an oar it’s a trick “
