Just thought it would be nice to list some favorite healthy activities you have and maybe share some pictures or other ways to encourage one another to be healthy and active.

I love walking in the woods, swimming, biking, yoga and gardening.

What are your favorite activities?

My son turned 13 a few months ago. I think he's challenging me for alpha status of the house. I can't walk by him without getting shoved or punched in the arm. "Come on old man, are you scared?" I think he's kidding but he usually deserves the "beating" he gets. It's all in fun...I think, but he's always coming at me with nerf swords, wooden spoons and fists of fury. This keeps me on my toes. I'll admit he's getting better, but I sure can't let him win. The chirps are already bad enough because he beats me regularly at table tennis.

Hungry,

it might be of great benefit if you shared with your beloved son what the world awaits to beat him up with;...
Tell him, prepare him, Love him, spare him all that is humanly possible -
share/teach what Christ has shown you in how to honour your Creator, and how to treat your neighbor...

Yeah, I share all sorts of stuff with him. Be ready for anything is pretty much our motto. As far as spare him, I'm not sure what you mean by that. We never let our kids go to any sleep overs until they were older. We monitor a lot of what they watch. If there is a show that has less than moral standards we are usually in the room so we can question them about the content and get them to see what was wrong or unChrist like about it. However, usually it is the things that challenge us the most that make us the strongest. Difficulty breeds fortitude. We babied our eldest, as I think many do. She is less equipped to deal with stress than her youngest brother.

I discovered that boys need to know where they stand in the pecking order. I indulge his attacks because this is how boys increase confidence, by overcoming obstacles. The idea is to make victory just out of reach. This way they don't get a false sense of accomplishment by letting them win, or giving them an undeserved award. At the same time they aren't completely defeated, crushing their will. One time while we were wrestling he gave me a bit of a black eye. He seemed concerned that it hurt me, but he didn't stop smiling for three days. The opposite of fear isn't courage. Courage is action in the face of fear. Confidence is the action void of fear and this is only achieved by setting a difficult standard and allowing them to fail until they gain the strength to overcome the obstacle. This is what leaders are made of. These are the alphas needed for the next generation, because giving them a trophy for showing up is more harmful than good. That breeds entitlement, so prevalent in society today.

I liked the title of this:
Exercise Made Simple

When people think of exercise, most would describe it as breaking a sweat in the gym or pounding the pavement for miles on end, but exercise doesn't have to be so time-consuming, difficult or rigorous to provide you with great, total body benefits. In fact, the most current science is showing that exercises
comprised of short, intensive bursts in between periods of rest is the most effective way to lose weight, strengthen and tone. HIIT, or "high intensity interval training" is a great way to get your body moving, increase your heart rate and see some results in your body's look and feel. These days, everyone is so busy living life, it's easy to forget to stop and take some time to exercise the body. Exercise has proven health benefits, but who has the time to spend hours in the gym or out on the road when there are kids to be cared for, meals to be prepared, work to be done, and everything else to take care of? Thankfully, you can fit exercise into just about any schedule with a few simple tips. Take a look at what you do every day and you'll find opportunities to fit in some exercise, even in small doses.

Short Bursts

Incorporating weights into your exercise positively impacts your overall health, from preventing osteoporosis to supporting weak ligaments and bones. Don't have traditional dumbbells or weights handy? Pick up your kid and squat during playtime. Cooking dinner? Grab a gallon of juice and lift it over your head a few times. Working a long day? Take the stairs, park as far away from the office as you can and power-walk to the front door. Get up from your desk and do some wall push-ups or squats every hour. The coffee break can involve taking a few flights of stairs or a walk around the building. On nice days, ride your bike to work. Swap out your regular work chair for an ergonomic balance ball for a seat that strengthens your core.
Even if you don't have the kind of lunch break that lets you put on your shoes and go for a run, there are ways to sneak in some great moments of exercise throughout your day just by utilizing what you have around you. Feel silly? Ask a colleague to join you. There's power in numbers! Looking for more ideas? Read on.

Running, push ups,sit ups, squats, biking and dancing yayyy I hope these exercises are safe for me till I am 60 :D

the exercise-ball, blown way-up, so wonderful for stretching your spine and relaxing
tense muscles...
WALKING if you can - I walk with two long poles to keep me from falling - I go
where ever I can to keep moving when I can...the pain is worth it!

of course I would never be able to do this at my age, '70', if I hadn't taken myself off of
the heavy-prescription-drugs, they were literally killing me and making me a helpless zombie!

Jesus taught me how to 'take-back' my POWER and use it to the utmost in order to be able to
continue to LIVE...

Hi, sweet,
I wish i met you long before so i have someone to do/learn to do those with-). Just not dancing! Ah, i managed to walk some 4km this weekend, but wish more often.

Toke my daughter kayaking yesterday and realized how weak my arms got from not doing much the last month.
It was excercise getting the kayaks to and from the car, lol.

So need to get into shape before my 30 plus mile backpacking trip with the Methodist youth this summer. Appalachian trail here we come.

Making candles the old fashion way where you have to tend a fire and keep the temperature right, moving pots, etc can be a good workout for some muscles too.

You do? Why do you make candles, as a hobby?

Oh it's a historical re enactment. We are doing it for the local 4th graders. They come to the historic site as a field trip and we are one of ten (15 minute) stations. A lady at church asked for volunteers.

It's been a lot of fun. Today is the last day until next fall. They will have a "public day" that is open to the community.

I wish threads like this arent forgotten. Doing some neck and shoulder exercises which again, i should do daily or more often.

mar,

hub always gives me a 'good-rub' for what is the worse at that particular moment/time -
I always try and spare him, for he has physical problems himself, but, he always puts me first,
and I him, I pray - for I so desire to become like the person he is, by Loving and serving his Holy Saviour...
he absolutely has 'no-guile' and only lives to aspire to be like our Maker and be the
family-member/husband, that he has been appointed to be...

Those are my favourite activities too! Especially cycling, getting exercise while enjoying nature isn't a chore for me.
