Is there a reason that the Edit and Delete button disappear after awhile. Would it be possible to leave these on the post for good, instead if temporarily?

Two reasons.
One, it prevents trolls from deleting posts, which would make it harder to catch them, the main reason.
Two, it prevents people from changing their posts in ways that may throw off the flow of a thread.
For example if you respond to a post and later that person drastically edits their post, your post will look random and out of place. Or if they delete their post all together the same would apply.

Sure. Obviously if your post is deleted, the all replies should be deleted as well. One way to work the Edit button would be to leave your original post that was quoted. But you m ow how people are - we reply impulsively and then later change our mind. Maybe a longer delay on these buttons…

I asked a mod if I could take down a specific post in the women's forum group, but they clearly said NO and denied my request. So i'm stuck with that forever and am triggered every time someone wants to add comments to that post. Set in stone forever whether you like it or not!! Next time i create I post I think realllllly long and hard before posting now because of this...especially if it's very sensitive type of info and new eyes keep seeing it over and over and over and feel the need to ad a comment to it....ugh

Well I'm just a user, not my call. But as the second higgest ranking person on the site stated, no changes. They've been set at this time for over 10 years.

Not fair to have to delete others posts. And also a lot of work to figure out which posts need deleted.

Also you have to consider software limitations. The software may not even provide all of these options.

Just proofread a lot before you post; and be very sure of what you want to say and how you want to say it.
