Hi Friends,
I recently lost a dear friend of mine on February 14, 2024 to cancer.
I remember having a conversation with her while I was at her place helping her. This was before I was fully converted to Christianity, and I said to her if you die, you must find a way to let me know that you are OK and you’re in a good place. Promise me you’ll find a way.
Well, since she passed, I have been saved and is now a Christian and I read the Bible daily and I see that we are not supposed to communicate with the dead, and that the dead knows nothing, and so if you have dreams about a dead person, I’m not sure I can trust that it’s even from her.
But almost immediately after she died, before her funeral, she came to me in a dream, she was younger and healthy and I knew she was dead, and I embraced her in the dream and she let me know she’s OK.
Recently, I’ve been having more dreams about her, she said she doesn’t like where she is.
In all the dreams I know that she is dead, but recently in the dreams I am reminding myself that she is dead and I’m not allowed to communicate with the dead.
This is happening in the dream so I’m not even sure what to make a of it, any thoughts?

I have had several dreams like this about the many people who have passed on. Mine werent very pleasant so I just had to keep telling myself that it was the enemy trying to make things worse. That is what he likes to do . I guess it's best just to trust God because you can rest assured that no one who is passed on is where they shouldnt be. I hope that the dreams for you stop or that you can come to a conclusion and find peace knowing that God is Good All the time.

Very complicated topic which varies from culture to culture.
First and foremost ask God in prayer to give you guidance or a sign. That's what i do. And i do get signs on my daily life.
I have also gotten two personal miracles, one seen by my wife.

In regards to dreams and in this case relating to the dead, it depends if it's coming from God or from the evil one.
I know children in my church who received a dream from their fathers who passed away to let them know that they were okay.
So it depends.
Also if you know that this is coming from a good place and your departed friend is telling you that "she's not in a good place", then that's where prayers for the dead come in, which is something we do in our Church.
Maybe pray for her, light a candle and ask God to have mercy on her soul and then give it up to God.
That's all we can do.

I have had dreams of loved ones who passed on. They too were good , peaceful dreams. It gave me comfort to see them. I was not feeling anything bad about the dreams when they occurred. I think it may have been my unconscious reconciling my grief for their absence. I do pray for your peace and hope as you grieve her loss, she too is at peace.

I advise you not to place any trust in these dreams.. They could well be dreams that your sub conscience is causing to happen because of your desire to know about her eternal situation.. Don't get too stressed about the dreams by worrying about ""communicating with the dead issue"" I advise you to talk to God directly about it and ask if it is against His will for you to dream about this person to then ask Him to remove these dreams from you.. His will be done..

BeeStill - First of all, I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. We know from Hebrews 12:1-2 that there is a "great cloud" of witnesses. Now while we might not totally understand what that means, understand it's coming from the perspective that those who are 'asleep' in Jesus (the term the Bible uses) may be able to witness some of our lives. I don't know how personal that becomes, or if it's general knowledge. Either way, there's no reason to believe that those in heaven are so separated from us here on earth that there is no possible way for them to know what is going on. Whether or not they are allowed to give you a 'sign' or not, we don't have any examples in Scripture of it.

In terms of your dreams - relish them. Relish saying hi to your loved ones or friends in your dreams. They may not be them directly, but they are a way for your mind to deal with the loss. Our dreams have a lot to tell us, but don't put your faith in them alone. They are like a thermometer, telling us where our mind might be at right now. But they definitely should not be our thermostat, they should not dictate spiritual truths to us. Many blessings to you. - Peter James

Scripture tells us that our spirit returns to God who gave it (Ecc 12:7) and 2 Corinthians 5 offers that understanding from a Christian standpoint in the confidence that being away from the body is as being at Home, with the Lord (2Cor5:8)

Although this doesn't exactly clarify whether an unbeliever is "at Home" when they die, their spirit has, no less, returned to God. And at no point does scripture tell us any of these are already in the lake of fire. This lake of fire event doesn't happen until all have been resurrected.

I don't know what exactly is going on with your dreams of your friend but I have a few notes for you. First off, on the dead knowing nothing, realize that things changed when Jesus died on the cross, so that isn't still true. Second, there are times that God gives people visions of the deceased. Therefore be careful not to be too black-and-white about it. Don't go out of your way to talk to the dead, but leave room for God to move and do things as He determines. Third, while God can give you dreams and visions of the dead, the enemy (Satan and his fallen angels) can also influence us, including in our dreams. You can neither assume all the dreams you describe are of God nor of Satan. It is appropriate, though, to throw them all out if you cannot tell, but do try considering the spirit of each dream (ex. Pride, peace, love, fear), the fruit (God always does things with purpose), and ask God directly. Everybody's gifts and how God interacts with them is a little different, but you can ask God a question and trust that He will answer if and when He can.

שלום עליכם
Shalom, God's peace be with you.

I have the impression that the first dream was really a genuine encounter with her. All the other disturbing dreams are from the demons. But I don't know it for sure.

God be with you. Praise Jesus.

I don't think the dead can communicate with us .

To be absent from the body and present with the Lord.

However, I think it's normal to have dreams about lived ones.
After Dad was murdered, I had many vivid dreams of us together. Once in a while I still do. I don't know that I'm dreaming at the time. It always ends with me waking up and realizing he's dead and how much I love him and miss him. I cry like I did the morning he was killed. It's reliving it over and over again emotionally.

Now that My Mom was medically murdered by the doctor in the hospital, I have dreams of her alive and we're talking. Then when I wake up it's the worst nightmares. Because it's so traumatic. Sorry to get so heavy, but it's been a very heavy burden that I'm often reminded of. I couldn't sleep last night and that's common.

Be grateful for your memories, especially if you aren't going through repeated severe traumas. I sympathize with you in the loss of your dear friend. I hope you have family and local friends who do too.

There's >One Way< to talk with, to be with family and friends someday. If you aren't 100% sure, I'm here to answer any questions.

I shouldn't have posted until I proof read because I Ran out of time while I checked the verse and made a correction.

8We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

I appreciate that you want to be careful not to practice necromancy/ communication with the dead.
I don't think you are when you dream. Our minds go to many thoughts when we dream and sometimes they are very realistic.
I think it's normal to have dreams about loved ones.

Thanks everyone for sending words of wisdom and comfort. I pray every time I go to sleep that The Lord will protect my dreams, protect my mind from the evil one while I sleep. I’m going to keep praying and trusting in God.
