Hey Everyone,
This thread is inspired by another ongoing thread here, but the topic comes up frequently here in Singles.
Many singles think that whatever they're struggling with will get better or even disappear altogether "if only" they found their "one true love," their "soul mate," their absolute dream person from God who is going to be the total game changer -- or so they think.
Now, I am definitely not trying to say that this can't or doesn't happen.
I'm just interested in what others have observed regarding this topic. If you think about the people in your life -- it could be you, a friend, a relative, a parent, a step-parent, a church member, a co-worker -- have any of them believed that a Godly, loving relationship or marriage would make all their issues get better or go away? So what actually happened when they did find love?
Don't limit the list of possible problems to the ones in just the title -- it could be video games, food, loneliness, insecurities, addiction to work -- anything that is interfering with your life, is causing you distress, or is causing you to live a lesser quality of life because of your inability to resist or avoid the issue, whatever it may be. It could be something you once chose on your own, or something you had no power against but yet you have to deal with it now on a regular basis.
Most Christian singles seem to believe that a Christ-centered marriage will conquer everything. But what have you actually experienced and observed in your everyday life? One thing that always perplexes me is how far reality can be from our ideals, and we often find this out much too late. What can we do to prevent this?
*Of the people you can think of who thought a romantic relationship would improve their state -- did things get better, worse, or stay the same?
* Why do you think that is, especially if both people involved were Christians?
Please note that I see this question as having no "right" or "wrong" answers -- the only thing I'm really after is how people's realities have played out vs. the ideals they once held (and acted upon.)
I have included an anonymous, multiple-choice poll because I'm really interested in hearing people's thoughts and observations about this. And if there is enough interest, I may repeat this thread and poll in the Family Forum in order to get answers from our married friends who can speak from experience.
Thank you for sharing your dose of reality with us today![/QUOTE
A-loving spouse can definitely help one to overcome difficulties, but truly, only Jesus Christ can deliver us from fleshy desires and wrong thinking. Having someone to share with is helpful, though, especially if that person listens well and loves unconditionally.
Abraham through Sarah under the bus too.Just threw Eve under the bus...not exactly a loving thing to do
and blaming God...
when God had warned him in the first place not to eat from the tree.
God entrusted humans with His creation. It was a test to see if they really could handle it. Is it cruel of God to put humans to the test? It would be cruel not to. If we are never tested, how will God know where our hearts lie?
We have to fall in love with god.Has to be god first...If you show true love to any one, god will repay you in kind sooner or latter. Some where it is written god is love. While a supportive partner can help it doesnt cure.
I thought that loving someone and showing the way would be enough to save someone. Failed epically twice.
In fact the first time it ended up with the guy stalking me and ending up in court. While he changed and or felt better in the relationship the servere mental illness dragged me down up to a point where i couldnt stand it anymore. All the support i gave ended up digging my own grave. While some points got better other things like obsessiveness chronified.
The second always said that love was the cure...well he had a alcohol problem that he hid behind my back and silently got worse. Also ended in a fiasco.
Supporting someone can help but if someone doesnt want to stop he or she wont.
Advice: dont think you can save anyone. Only Jesus can
And that only if that person allows it. Dont make it your mission

then perhaps in that context lettuce us say love is god only if we understand that all goods things are from god.I have to fully agree bro God is love. In this spiritual warfare of two opposing kingdoms the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. On our side we know that God is love and love can only be defined by him, as only our God can define himself. As Christ said only the son knows the father and only the father knows the son. When Peter had replied that Jesus was the Christ the son of God. Christ lets us know that flesh and blood did not reveal that. Which we know as well when the comforter came he came to lead us into all truth.
So is very definite, carnality or this world cannot understand the things of God because God is a spirit and only the spirit can reveal the things of the spirit.
So I am finding that Satan ever present as he is in this spiritual war he takes truth and rearranges it or twists it. Which I am sure we can agree more examples of that than need be referred to.
So in this war I have found that Satan has twisted that truth that God is love into love is god Try and call sin, sin now and suddenly the whole world has become theologians and will say love your neighbor. Then will proceed to define what love is a hundred and one ways and not a one will be the way God has defined love or defined himself.
It is in the language all around us, love wins, chose love, and many more slogans.
However, they have bought the lie that love is god and that allows them to ultimately define God. When the truth be God is love and only he can define love which when he does he defines himself.
Not really sounds good. but not correct besides they never said Jesus they may have said; Yeshua Many put emphasis on that sound such as the mormons do. But it can be like a gun with no bullets.I think most christians do understand that repentence comes before being baptised.
those caught up in WOF doctrine tend to think scripture is like magic words. There is power in Jesus name yes, and Jesus was able to cast out demons by just saying the word, but also because He believed.
A lot of people think prayer alone is enough, but demons are only cast out by prayer AND fasting. People tend to forget about the fasting. Which is very important.
Not just giving up food, (or whatever vice) but the act of fasting is like repenting.
Maybe at first for some yes, when the respect and the love between the two is high the two will respect each other more and possibly respect them selfs more when asked to. A loving hand can allways help an individual beat addiction and cure depression. I guess too even if not at first it can happen later in the marriage too. Some people who fall in love who dont have no depression and no addiction can end up developing the things you mentioned too there is scripture to prove it to.Hey Everyone,

The same can be said for women to lol.. ive met plenty who get shy when asked to sing. I think it is a shy thing. or a fear of aproval and confidence toI dont know the (put your vice here) is implying of people who respond to your post seoul. lol
I will say so that the women who read romance novels are looking for escape not a cure. And men generally dont read romance novels. If they do come in and buy them they will say its for their sister.
If a guy is reading a novel there might be SOME romance in it but there has to be some violence or maybe a murder to spice it up, men just wont read straight romance. Romeo and Juliet is acceptable, but Mills and Boon is not.
