@Watchman22
I saw the next documentary today because i was curious about Dr. Grier and it starts well by saying that the existence of aliens will make a lot of our religions on earth go through an identity crisis.
I’ve said this myself many years ago because this is also an angle that atheists use.
Because of bad human actors in history using God to control others, atheists have become skeptics due to a bad experience in churches, and for good reason.
However when I discuss this point with atheists, I try to tell them that bad actions of men don’t represent God and God stands sovereign and He intercedes for us in the form of Miracles.
So I agree with this point in the documentary that extraterrestrial life might threaten religions.
However Dr. Grier is being extremely naive to think that an alien species might be peaceful.
This is very wrong in my opinion.
Nobody has any idea what an alien species can do, what their intentions are and their capabilities.
So trying to sing kumbaya with aliens is very immature.
This also confirms my views about these devices being robotic and programmed, because they’re programmed to observe and report but not attack us.
That’s exactly what we as humans would do when we sent a probe in space to learn more about a planet like mars for example.
So instead of thinking this from a practical perspective he’s making it into a “aliens are peaceful” perspective because they’re not attacking us. Not very thoughtful. Because they could be observing which they have been doing since ancient cave paintings by humans. Observe is not the same as peaceful. It’s about gaining information so then you decide what do do after.
Attack, colonize or leave it alone or go in with gifts and be peaceful.
Basically the beginning of the first hour talks about the two opposing views of pacifism and warmongers.
But I don’t think they looked at it from a practical perspective.
If I send a probe or a robot in mars I’m not doing pacifism and not doing war either.
I just want to find out what that planet has in terms or resources , life and everything else and then report back home all the data. It’s as simple as that.
Then they go a bit into this nonsensical spirituality and try to avoid God at all costs while they talk about start trek physics and consciousness lol
I’ve heard this before but when you talk about being all one in the universe on a conscious level ,while this may be technically true from a physics perspective as we understand it now, where we share atoms, once a preconfigured shape designed by God takes material shape then you’re not really one in terms of thought or intent.
Because if you try to put yourself in the middle of lions and think positively that they’re not going to eat you, you’d fail miserably. The lions are guided by hunger and the instinct to kill.
This is why only a God who intervenes in the lives of Saints in history has allowed Saints to NOT be eaten by lions as we see in the story of St Thecla for example. It was God who did it, not Thecla. He intervened.
Then Grier also talks a bit about us humans “harming” the planet which made me laugh a bit because the whole universe itself is in a constant state of explosion since the start (as we understand it) which is chaotic and during this chaos we come in briefly to know our Creator who kept us in a non-chaotic state in The Garden but we got deceived and God allowed our limited free will so we can go through the journey to gain gratefulness for Him and love Him purely as our Father by seeing His work (The Universe) and knowing His Son Jesus Christ.
The planet has been harming itself before we got here and got hammered by asteroids and volcanoes and it’s still here.
There’s also a point in archeological history where the planet has gone through 3 major biological extinction level events and here we are as biological beings created in God’s image.
Who does he blame for Pompei and other natural disasters in history while we humans were here but didn’t have all this tech including nuclear weapons? Not very good thinking imo.
Overall this documentary does what atheists do when they want to avoid God and create word salads in the end.
Everything is connected to God who is the primary mover and we’re all on His hands but as I’ve seen in other documentaries, some people will worship aliens instead of God and get confused with their intent and clarity and create word salads as a by-product.
This documentary wasn’t as good as the other one I would say. A lot of mumbo jumbo.
