Difference between conviction and guilt?

My take...
Conviction is so profitable in the way of sanctification, if we listen to it when we grieve the spirit..
For example...
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 NASB
I now rejoice, not that you were made sorrowful, but that you were made sorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were made sorrowful according to the will of God, so that you might not suffer loss in anything through us. For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 NASB
Guilt, speaks more to me in quenching the spirit, ignoring it and knowing you are. I do think guilt and or conviction can be profitable, causing a pricked conscience. However lamenting with guilt over past stuff we have already repented and been forgiven for is a lying tool of satans', one he loves to utilize.

Ummm...
To feel guilty means to feel strongly you did something wrong.
To feel conviction just means to feel something strongly... it could be anything.
Therefore:
a. guilt would intrinsically contain a sense of conviction.
b. but conviction does not necessarily imply a sense of guilt... you could feel convicted about something good.

Also, we don't need scriptures to understand the difference between two English words.
They are different words, and simply mean different things.
If we wanted to have a Bible study, we wouldn't be using these two words at all.
We'd probably need to do two different topical studies.
1. We'd need to do one study on something like how a person comes to know guilt and repentance... something like that.
2. We'd need to do another study on how a person feels and knows direction (conviction) of the holy spirit... something like that.
.

If I may be so bold to change your question slightly.
What is the difference between conviction and CONDEMNATION.
I believe conviction will push you in the direction of Jesus. It ;leads you to prayer, to Scripture, to fellowship, to confession, to Godly sorrow, and finally to repentance and restoration.
Condemnation pushes you AWAY from Jesus. It leads you to worldly desires in an attempt to assuage, and forget the guilt you feel.
In essence, conviction is from our comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Condemnation is from our enemy, the devil.

Hello! I feel guilty of having not said things or done things at opportune moments in my life of the past. These have been forgiven by Jesus! We need to forgive ourselves before we can forgive others, IMO we hold on to things in our minds! When I feel conviction from God for sins that come from my heart such as hatred,fear,unbelief,I grieve the Holy Spirit and my heart burns with said conviction,I then have to ask God to forgive me. We cannot change our past but we have Jesus,The Father and the Holy Spirit to change our future!

Condemnation is not from the enemy it is right judgement on evil behaviour
16 Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
18 Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

We are only free from condemnation from God because we walk in the Spirit.
It is clear God is the source of condemnation.
And the condemnation is because of "the righteous requirements of the law".
We must be careful not to put the wrong concepts into the wrong spiritual authority.
