I really can't help but wonder if you are being serious with this question, or just wanting to have fun with it, or maybe both?
I think sometimes with threads, especially the longer ones (several pages) people don't go back and read through all of it ( I know I don't usually, especially the older ones with hundreds-thousands of pages) so someone jumps right in replying to what's currently on the page (possibly with out even reading a page or 2 back).
But I think usually by the time a thread has gotten to that many pages it has already derailed a time or 2.

I think one way a person can avoid being a derailer is to jump back to the OP of a thread and get a good feel for what the PURPOSE of the thread is BEFORE any possible derails occur.

Now I'm going to go derail this thread by having a side conversation with Magenta that we could easily take somewhere else like
speak your mind thread (SYM- great place for random thoughts btw b/c it's kind of hard to derail a that thread; unless you wanna talk about something other than coffee and donuts) :LOL: or on one of our profile pages or even into a private chat. But since it was brought up here and I'm in this thread and my mind is on it, I'm going to hit "reply" and derail this a bit (even though it might mean someone replies to mine or Magenta's post and derails the thread more)

Probably both. I started off on a somewhat serious note but it has sort of morphed into Comedy Central, but that's fine as I am sort of a ham myself.

I found him interesting for sure :)

It may have been his "covid-is-not-real" rhetoric that got him in trouble.

There is certainly too much of that here.

While reseaching something a little while back, I came across another Christian-run chat site that had various "notes" scrolling across the top of each page, and one was warning people that such rhetoric (as mentioned above) would no longer be tolerated because it is too disrespectful and incredibly insensitive to those who have lost loved ones to the disease.

I've seen some Christian Forums that completely forbid the topic, kinda like YouTube does.

It is very divisive to tell someone they are not a Christian because they choose to wear a mask or get vaccinated.

Also, when someone says, "Masks don't work." You just know they would not subject themselves to surgery if nobody on the medical team were wearing protective paper masks while operating. Calling them "face diapers" is likewise ludicrous, and makes me wonder if such people cough and sneeze in other people's faces, because their attitude is such that viruses, germs, or bacteria are not spread that way.

I've rerailed as much as I've derailed though, so my karma is balanced.

Now someone please get this derail party started with a good old fashioned "karma is eeeeeeevil!" blast at me.

Well, the only thing that can really derail a thread is a dynamite blast or maybe tying a damsel down on it so... other than that its just a station break to pick up more postingers.

oh I agree with what you just said, my beef is when it comes to the squelching of other view points, is when we enter extremely dangerous waters.

Okay, we're really doing this...

The problem is the sensationalist media. They have been hollering about this and that for so long because it gets viewers. When there's a real danger people don't believe them, because we're all burnt out. We got no adrenaline left to be scared any more and we stopped believing them long ago anyway. Now there's a real problem and they have no way to get the word out because we all turned them off.
