Lets get the full context of Ephesians 2:8 by starting at the beginning of this letter to the saints at Epheus
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
This relates back to Acts 2:38 and Romans 6

Ephesians 1:11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

The above reference to the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is where we have obtained an inheritance and it was according to the will of God his plan of salvation.

Ephesians 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

See when you trusted in the gospel which you obeyed in baptism see verse 7 you were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 2:1And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

See compare this with what he said in Romans 6 where he said this was when you were baptized into his death.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Now see that the grace in verse 5 is what God worked in baptism in Acts 2:38/Romans 6:3ff Faith is not the gift salvation is the gift and it does not come from the works of the law as the Jews want to cling to but through THE Faith that was once delivered. For by od's workmanship in baptism as we see here and Romans 6 we were created in Christ Jesus go do good works of righteousness which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:11Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

These verse restate that it is in baptism that God has done this gracious deed of transformation.
So see I am not boasting but giving God the praise for the grace he has given me. So It does not help your case to just make stuff up take the word for what is says.

So back to my question. Where does the Bible explicitly say that the Spirit uses the word to baptize in water? Evryone in this thread is very familiar with Scripture and they know that you just made up your assesment of John 4:1.
What did I make up does John 4:1 not say in black and whit in the KJV that Jesus baptized more even though he did not do the dipping but had his deciples to carry it out?
John 4:1 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)

They believed because they were born of God (exactly what Jesus said in John 3). It does not say "who were born not of human birth or the teachings of man in accordance to God's word."

Again let me point you to Romans 6 where Paul tells us how we were born again the new birth transformed from dead in sin to alive in Christ. Paul said it was when we were baptized Acts 2:38 that we were baptized in his death (the cross the blood of Christ) it is clearly recorded in plain understandable words from God. Please read what the sriptures are telling you.

Not of blood (not a natural birth but a supernatural birth} rather than by design of human parents, and not by anyone willing it, but they were reborn (out of Adam and into Christ) by the will of God through the Holy Spirit. IOW God gave them a new heart, one that turned towards him in love instead of the old stoney heart that was at enmity with him (also known as repentance).

Yes and Paul told you in Romans 6 how God preformed this transforming work. It was through the baptism inJesus name that we were baptized with where we were baptized into his death (the cross the blood of Christ) in which GOD did HIS transforming work.

Excellent post!

Salvation is a gift of God, not an entitlement of ethnic or covenant status by the mosaic law. Paul is telling them how just like the Jews wasn’t saved by grace through the law of Moses, you Gentiles don’t have to follow the law of Moses to be saved either, because both Jew/Gentile is united in one body (Eph. 2:16). That’s why he brings up: “The circumcision” (v11), “The commonwealth of Israel” (v12), “The Law of commandments in ordinances” (v15), “Boasting” and “works” (v9)

Paul rejects boasting in Law-based covenant inclusion. There’s one God, one way: Christ (Jn. 14:6).

Romans 3:27–30
“Where is boasting then? It is excluded… by the law of faith…
Is He the God of the Jews only? Is He not also the God of the Gentiles?”

In Acts 15, Jews assumed salvation was tied to their identity as Jews and their law. The apostles and elders dismantle that (v24)

This fits Acts 15, where Jews tried to impose law-keeping as a condition of salvation on the Gentiles.

Acts 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Acts 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment:

In Ephesians 2:9, Paul excludes that kind of boasting in law or lineage: “Not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
I believe the “works” in view are the works of the Law of Moses — particularly circumcision and ritual observances.

In Ephesians 2:14–15, Paul says Christ “abolished the law of commandments contained in ordinances” to bring Jew and Gentile together.

This echoes the Jerusalem Council’s conclusion: Gentiles don’t need to come under the Law to be saved.

Acts 15:11 – “We (Jews) believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ **we shall be saved in the same manner as they (Gentiles).”

Ephesians 2:8 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith…”

Paul is correcting misunderstandings and or reminding them how salvation is by grace through faith. Not of works.

Paul uses the word “works” in different contexts to address different misunderstandings about salvation.

2 Timothy 1:9 and Titus 3:5 would be when Paul tells Titus and Timothy that salvation by grace isn’t by good works or of our own righteousness.

In Ephesians 2:9, Paul is reminding/telling how being saved by grace is not of works of the law.

Salvation is not of ourselves in the sense we came up with how to be saved. In that sense, it’s not of works, which Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:9 and Titus 3:5. We didn’t do nothing to earn Jesus, the gospel, the church, the New Testament, and all the other spiritual blessings that is in Christ (Eph. 1:3). Good works and works of our own righteousness didn’t cause Jesus to come here. It didn’t cause the gospel, the New Testament, etc etc. That was by the mercy and grace of God, and Titus 3:4-5 explains that.

Works of the law couldn’t justify (Gal. 2:16) and works of our own righteousness can’t either.

Earlier today before I saw your post, I was thinking how a lot of people believe that Peter was teaching something contrary due to what Paul says in Ephesians 2:8. A lot of people believe that Paul was teaching against baptism when he says not of works, and so they think that Peter was teaching works in Acts 2.38. They think that Paul was teaching saved by grace (which he was), and they believe Peter was not. But in actuality, Peter was teaching just as much of grace and not of works as Paul was, because in Acts 2.38, that verse is filled with grace, and it's filled with not of works. In fact, if Peter was saying that we are saved by works, then in Acts 2, that would have been the perfect time for him to say that when the Jewish people asked, men and brethren, what shall we do (v37)? That would have been the perfect time for him to say, “Keep doing what you're doing by following the law of Moses. Keep doing the works of the Mosaic law, as your sins are atoned through works.” Except he didn't say that. He said, repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins (v38). That right there is completely different than the Mosaic law.
And if Acts 2.38 is works, then these people who believe it is are saying “All the people who obeyed the authority of Christ worked or atoned for their remission of sins by works.” That would be completely absurd.

Yes Paul describes it quite nicely in Romans 6. The baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, which is the one referenced in all of Acts, is a spiritual baptism, as Paul points out that it is God at work in this baptism. it is where he does his transforming work of dead in sin to alive in Christ. I really do not see how anyone can read that chapter and not see what it is saying. It is clearly the baptism that John said Jesus would baptize with. They can not see past the physical to see the spiritual work God is doing. Me getting dipped, or the water is not what is doing the transformation, but the spiritual work God is doing is what saves.

Water baptism doesn’t earn or work for grace no more than belief or repentance does. Man didn’t originate that. Just like the baptism of John didn’t originate with man (Mk. 11:30), the baptism that Christ authorized to be administered throughout the world He resurrected came from heaven/Him (Mk. 16:15-16; Mt. 28:18-19). When one is water baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, they are appealing to the baptism by the authority of Jesus that came heaven, not man. Therefore, appealing to the authority of Jesus by being baptized for the remission of sins is not of works, but of grace. If it was works, it could not have given us the remission of sins via the blood of Christ (Rom. 4:4; 3:24-25).

Could you please summarize the main point of your post? Thank you.
Yes Ephesians 2:8 does not nullify the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ . In context it shows that it is part of the faith that saves it is the grace of God it is part of the salvation.

Let me clarify that the act of water baptism in and of itself is not what gives us the remission of sins. Just like the act of belief in and of itself doesn’t have the power to do so. Since both are involved in being saved by grace through faith (just like repentance and confession is, Rom. 10:9-13), then when one believes, repents and is baptized for the remission of sins, one is appealing to Jesus by calling upon His name for salvation (Acts 2:21). That plan of how to be saved came from God. Not man. The resurrection of Jesus Christ puts the stamp of divine approval on it, making it part of His saving grace (1 Peter 3:21). So, the act of water baptism in and of itself and apart from Jesus is not what gives us the remission of sins. The author of eternal salvation (Heb. 5:9), Jesus Christ does, when one calls on Him to be saved, which involves believing, repenting and being baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). Of course, confessing He’s Lord is also necessary (Rom. 10:9-13), not just for the sinner, but for the Christian who is wanting to live for their King. They might not have confessed He’s Lord with their mouth at their conversion, but they did so with their obedience in obeying His gospel. And the Christian is going to confess He’s Lord with their lives, by being a doer of the word of following Him (Jn. 10:27) and not a hearer only (Jms. 1:22).

I agree it is the way we call on the Lord as Paul said in Acts 22:16. We submit to Gods gracious gift. it is the response to the gospel call.

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Yes and Paul told you in Romans 6 how God preformed this transforming work. It was through the baptism inJesus name that we were baptized with where we were baptized into his death (the cross the blood of Christ) in which GOD did HIS transforming work.

Yes, WB replaced PC as the non-sacramental sign of SB during the transition from the OC to the NT,
and immersion was the mode that best portrayed Christ's death, burial and resurrection (Col. 2:11-14).

Baptism has no part in a person's salvation. God does not need a third person to complete the forgiveness of sin. It is between the sinner seeking forgiveness and the person of God the Father.
God does not need the help of a third person.

Romans 6:1-18
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

"so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death" Paul says that when you were baptized (Acts 2:38 you were baptized into his death Joined him at the cross was washed with his blood)

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." In baptism we are buried and raised just as Christ (new birth) (born again) (Given the indwelling spirit) (Put on Christ)

"For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:" Born again raised in the new life

"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
For he that is dead is freed from sin.Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:" New birth born again born of water and spirit it happened when we were baptized into his death Acts 2:38

Christ done away with our sin through the baptism in his name we were baptized into his death that is what the baptism in the name of Jesus Christ does Acts 2:38 it is by Gods grace that we can receive this salvation.

But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness." When we obeyed the gospel call to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ we became servants of the righteousness of God. Jesus had no sin but felt the need to fulfill all righteousness. We have the right to do the same but it is to wash away our sin through the blood of Christ.

Who has the authority to baptize?
Are there any exceptions?
What if a person cannot be baptized for medical reasons?
What if a person cannot find that third party to baptize them?
Salvation is a personal matter between an individual and God the Father and is based on faith in Jesus Christ paying one's sin debt.
Baptism comes AFTER salvation is the first step in surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus.
My question is--is a person really saved if he trust in baptism as necessary for salvation?

1. Who has the authority to baptize?
2. Are there any exceptions?
3. What if a person cannot be baptized for medical reasons?
4. What if a person cannot find that third party to baptize them?

6. Baptism comes AFTER salvation is the first step in surrendering to the Lordship of Jesus.
7. My question is--is a person really saved if he trust in baptism as necessary for salvation?

1. Jesus has the authority over baptism it is in his name that has the authority but doesn't matter which brother in Christ does the dipping.
See John 4:1,2 where Jesus is said to do the baptizing even though it was his disciples that did the dipping. Same as in 1 Corinthians 1:17 where Paul said he wasn't sent to do the dipping but to preach the gospel. Both Paul and Jesus taught baptism and was accredited as baptizing even though the did not do the dipping.

2. if you are are asking if there is any exception to being baptized then I will have to say I can not find scripture support of any.

3. I really don't think it is hard to get baptized you can sit down in a kiddy pool and be baptized. God will make a way. Hypothetical question are only trying to find a loop hole around what God has revealed and is not wise.

4. This is really reaching for loop holes cause there are plenty of people willing to help you submit to the gospel call.

5. Salvation is by the gospel call and one submitting to the call as by the will of God for there is no other way to the Farther but through the Son. Yes it is based on faith in Jesus paying ones sin dept so we see how Jesus said he was going to do so in Act 2:38 Act 22:16 and Romans 6 we must have faith in the words of Christ for that is what it means to have faith. His words are truth and life that we must trust in.

6. not according to the scriptures for they clearly teach that baptism is for the remission of sin again see Acts 2:38 Acts 22:16 and Romans 6 where Paul explains this in clear to understand language. We must have faith in what the scriptures are telling us.

7. yes according to scripture he is. My question is if scripture says (which it does) that baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sin are sins remitted with out the baptism in the name of Christ and is the spirit given if not through the same baptism as the scriptures teach. Look at Acts 19:1-5 for help in answering this question.
