Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. 1st John 2:15 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Mathew 6:24 No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money" John 3:20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

I'm a music lover... I appreciate every style-genre of music...

Metal is another type of music genre... such as Jazz, blues, reggae, gospel, etc... Metal also uses notes.... the only evil for it is when use it to worship the devil... What ever style of music genres that worship the devil is evil indeed...

As long as you sing it for the Lord... and it glorifies His name... no problem for that...

I am not trying to damn so called christian music. My point is that alot of so called christian music is just worldy music and needs to be to inspected carefully. See Metal is a very worldy genre therefor you have to be very careful on what you listen to. Now all im trying really to point out is it wordly or is it out of this world.

jhspy1
you said so in the verse you quoted that "you will be able to test and approve what God's will is" therefore we are all free to test metal music and take it up with God and see what HE says.
He told me that it is fine =]

Nothing really in the world that is not a worldly genre... If there is can you point one? even the gospel is worldly genre... just plain notes waved together, designed and arranged by man...

I know what i'm listening too... and i choses what I'm listening... even solemn music can be demonic music...

If you say very worldly?... what do you point?... it is evil?

Matthew 7

Ask, Seek, Knock

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! 12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. True and False Prophets

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them. True and False Disciples

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ The Wise and Foolish Builders

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” 28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

I will show you some verses that shows a similar act of metal... Maybe at this time metal genre did not exist, but this is very similar to metal... And God approve it for this...

2Samuel 6:16-22
16 As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart.
17 They brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the LORD. 18 After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD Almighty. 19 Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.
20 When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”
21 David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the LORD. 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

David Praise God with all his might... He even praise God unconsciously getting half-naked... as u can see... This is MORE than metal... MORE ROCKIER than all type of music... so that's why David is held to be "God's own heart"

As the singer and songwriter of the symphonic hard rock Christian band, Spiritual Plague, I find peoples' responses against Christian metal to be a complete shame to the mission and purpose of Christianity.

Jesus said to be a light in the darkness, and was out drinking and spending time with the sinners. He was even accused of being a drunk and the religious world questioned Jesus relationship with God because of the people he hung around.

Jesus was a light in the darkness, walking in their world yet without sin. My band plays in secular venues, bars, and churches because we are called to be a light in the darkness, just like Jesus was. Just about a month ago my band played a secular venue with a Satanist band that encouraged the audience to let Satan use them. My band took the stage after a few other bands played and once I got on stage I shared my testimony of God's faithfulness as a cancer survivor, taught scripture, and rocked the stage that night worshiping Jesus Christ on stage with symphonic hard rock music.

I read someone's post against Christian metal supposedly backing up their claim with a scripture that says to 'avoid the appearance of evil'...which is actually a mistranslation. Otherwise this scripture would be saying Jesus was doing something wrong when he went out to drink and hang out with the sinners- bringing light to the darkness. The correct translation of this verse is to avoid every form of evil....aka don't sin!

All that being said...keep rockin the metal, keep rockin the hard rock, and whatever it is you want to rock as long as it's bringing glory to Jesus Christ!!

If anyone wants to check out my band they can look it up at www.spiritualplague.com . If you dig what you hear and like what my band is doing then please show us your support and buy some music or something.

Peace!

Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
5praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.

I'd say we are free to worship God with whatever music we like

note though, that many "christian" metal bands have lyrics that are far from christian. I judge by their lyrics, not the sound of the music

there is no such thing as "unwordly" music...all music today, including old hymns, were and still are wordly because in one point in time they were are still are controversial among Christians...once you become a musician, you understand no matter what, the intentions of the heart are what matter

Becoming the Archetype :) :)

Mexicansaint, once again i do not want to be rude, but john todd is a well document and pathalogical liar. Also to add ive had alot of problems dealing with this sort of thing because im having alot of trouble converting myself from the metal i love to christian metal. I do like some christian bands like as i lay dying, but my favourite artists still hold deep paganistic roots in their music which i feel could be damaging to my relationship with god, but its not something i can just drop.

As for the argument of wether or not to listen to christian metal it is the focus in which take, if your focused on the imagery of fire, death, hatred and consumption then no. But if your true to god then it wont be a problem because he knows your heart and intentions are pure. So i dont think its a matter of good or bad, but a matter of what your trying to get out of the music yourself.

Just as a bit of a follow up on my concept of changing the focus on your listening rather than it being solely a good/bad argument, take 'Godsmack' for example, i apologize if you find the name offensive. Take their song 'I ****in Hate You' and by shifting your focus from it being and evil song i find it shows the traits of the devil in man and the people you should avoid like liars, the decietful etc.

For everything you do
I'd like to swallow you
And everyday I'm gonna blame you
And even if you justify
Every ****ing bull**** lie
It only makes me want to break you
You pull me down
And you crucify my name
You make me insane
It's broken now
Don't ever look my way
Don't even think I'm playin'
'Cause I ****ing hate you
You're such a liar
And I love to hate you
You're all the same to me
When you repeatedly
Take advantage of me
The only thought I get of you sickens me
And everybody knows your fake
You're everything I ****ing hate
And I'm everything that you could never be
You pull me down
And you crucify my name
You make me insane
It's broken now
Don't ever look my way
Don't even think I'm playin'
'Cause I ****ing hate you
You're such a liar
And I love to hate you
You're all the same to me
And I ****ing hate you
You're such a liar
And I love to hate you
You're all the same to me
(**** you)
(**** you)
(**** you)
You pull me down
And you crucify my name
You make me insane
It's broken now
Don't ever look my way
Don't even think I'm playin'
'Cause I ****ing hate you
You're such a liar
And I love to hate you
You're all the same to me
And I ****ing hate you
You're such a liar
And I love to hate you
You're all the same to me

The devil feeds on our earthly desires, lust, hated, lying and others. To me the focus of this song shows me the type of people that arent worth my time, rather than a strict anthem of hatred.

For another example take Bathory's 'Mother Earth, Father Thunder' Which is about the paganistic routs of man through the asatru theistic belief, if you shift your focus of what your looking at turns it around.

By lightning conceived was I
The stars above became my eyes
Overgelmer flows in my veins
My hair the mist across the never ending nameless lake

By womb of soil, the moist of dew
Born when sun was high, the day was new
And the raven soared high up in clear sky
The lamb will speak to you, when your heart is pure
And you were made by

Mother Earth, Father Thunder

This heart winged, I am eagles son
Through storm and syite, untouched, it is pounding on
This sword, forged in fire and ice

you can sit there and attribute this to witchcraft, false idols or whatnot. But if your willing to shift your focus on the song from its imagery, to focusing on god this song to me yields the fact that god created the heavens and the earth, and all that is in the earth is in me, as i am filled with the holy spirit and gods love.

Just some though im sure there will be some sort of rebuttal.

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
Galatians 5:22
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

If the music makes you violent, its bad for you.
If the music makes you love God peacefully with encouragement, its good

Christian metal isnt bad, but if it effects your conscience negatively, then its bad, so it depends on the person

Paul himself said in1 Corinthians 8:13 " Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall."
The music itself is not evil, but if it causes others to be immoral or violent or discouraged or distorts the Bible then it is wrong

I love Christian Metal... becoming the archetype is my favorite... although their latest album wasnt all that great. The main thing to think about is ,, does it put you in a spirit to worship God when you listen to it... if it does... then go ahead and listen to it,,, because God is pleaseed witht that.. as long as the lyrics give God glory... then its all good

Christian Metal, what are your views???

I Don't take opinions. if you have an argument please back it up with the Bible ...If you do not know about christian metal bands and what they do, please do some research before you answer
In Romans 12:2 it says, "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will." Let me just say this, Metal music should be Metal music, and Christian music should be Christian music. Nowadays, the intent of most young Christian bands is to capture the hearts of the youth. By doing so, they are mingling Christian music, with a little bit of Secular style of music. The bible warns that we ought not conform to this world. Why should Christian music sound like Metal, ScremO, and the like? Why can't Christian music be Christian music? Don't Chirstian music have a right to be a style of its own? One time me and my family were driving to my grandmother's house, and there was a song playing that sounded so boisterous that it made my ears bleed. When I found out that the song was playing from a Christian station, my mouth dropped and my heart sank. I couldn't believe that the song was was actually a Christian song. The point is, Christian/Metal music is no different from a Christian hypocrite. Jesus says in Matthews 7:21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Just because a "Chirstian" band shouts "Lord, Lord," doesn't mean they're sending the right messages. True they may be talking about the goodness of God, but how they come about talking about Him matters just as much.
