Elisabeth Elliot was a missionary widow so her experience is not the norm for many christian women who arent overseas.

When your husband is killed on the mission field and God wants you to stay behind to forgive the ones who murdered him thats something only God can orchestrate.

I dont know if she married again but possibly did after heading back to the US. I dont think she married into the auca tribe (though they actually did become christians)

I do not know of such a site. I can only think of Christian Mingle but I think the site is open to everyone.

As a female, I would not be comfortable providing proof of identity, photo ID, or post code on/to the website, much less this information being viewable to strangers on the site. I think this is just something you have to find out in the first couple of dates in person. I would be cautious with post code until later.
Christian Mingle is terrible and pretty much another cookie cutter clone of the dating app model but with a Christian label slapped on. Christian in name only.

There aren't really good options for things like filtering out Catholics (many Bible believing Christians don't see Catholicism as a true faith) etc. You're going to find a lot of cultural Christians (who are Christian because they aren't Satanists, Muslims, Jews, so forth) who are not truly born again Christ followers.

Christian Mingle also seems to have some strange censorship stuff in play. I had really hit it off with a gal who lives in one of the bigger cities near me, we were talking about Judaism (she is a Messianic Jew and we're on a Christian site, so no big deal) when she seems to have said something that triggered the filters and her whole account just disappeared. It was bizarre.

I had better luck on Zoosk, honestly, but... I'm kinda down on all of these dating apps right now. Gonna find me a nice wife by going to a good church instead. And that's free, so.... :D

did you try it?
I recall there was one site called Jdate
only for Jewish people though....not for people who's names start with the letter J.

this was the movie

I think I liked JLH when she played the girl in 'I know what you did Last Summer' but this wasnt a bad effort from her. She was pretty bad as Liz the Vet in the Garfield Movie. Garfield fans were like she is NOT Liz.

I did try Christian Mingle and a few others. Was generally unimpressed with all of them. My conclusion was that I would have better luck creating my own dating app from scratch.

Get this, most of these sites you are on there with the intention of meeting someone... but the site actually PREVENTS you from communicating with others unless you have a membership. HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE? The point of the internet in general is communication, FREE communication. So why would you go to a dating site to have your communication ability LIMITED?! Yeah, that makes sense! Not! :/ :/ :/ :( :[ :{

Oh yes, this subject pushes my buttons, lol

It's kind of one of those Catch 22 situations.

It was so long ago that I honestly can't remember how many dating services I tried -- something like 3 online with paid memberships, one real-life with a really expensive membership, and 2 free sites that allowed anyone to talk to anyone. And this wasn't all at once, lol, but I would say over the course of about 5-7 years.

I know paid memberships are aggravating and to some it will even seem un-Christian to charge money, but the one thing I can say I noticed was that the free sites seemed to have a lot more married people who were "curious to see what was out there" and "looking around."

I remember one guy in particular who talked to me for a while who had pictures of "himself" that in which he looked like a professional model (including a very buff, shirtless picture of "him" chopping wood. Ahem.)

I was very suspicious because I know the "type" I attract -- and it's not that type. I'm not saying that's an absolute way to be sure someone is a fraud, but guys who look like that DO NOT talk to me in real life (and I always have my real pictures up,) so I was pretty sure something was off. His personality didn't "match" his photos and I realize that sounds impossible to know (I'm certainly not saying it's foolproof,) but I guess it's just kind of a sixth sense you pick up from talking to people in writing for a long time before the internet ever came to be.

Long story short -- he told me he wrote to me because I just seemed "so real," and he kept in touch with me for (on dating sites at least,) quite some time. Eventually, he told me that he was not only married, but that he had married a girl he had met on that very same free site, and claimed that they were both still on there looking for just friends. I told him I appreciated his honesty but out of respect for his wife, was terminating our conversation.

I also knew married co-workers who would talk about being on the free dating sites because they wanted to know if they had "made the wrong choice" in whom they had married, and if the "real one for them" was "somewhere out there."

Others might have other experiences but I found the free sites to be a bit of a waste of time just because there were so many people there just wanting to play with nothing to lose.

A fee isn't an absolute prevention of course, but Mr. Married and Sister Mrs. might have a harder time joining a dating site that requires a check or credit card transaction that their spouse might see. People will also generally put more work and effort into something that was of personal cost to them.

(Occasionally we have threads here in Singles talking about various dating site scams and pitfalls to look out for -- perhaps we're overdue for one amongst the current crowd.)

Thank you for the responses guys. I got what I wanted. I've thought of everything that's been said, before you've said it, and I suspect that is of the Lord's doing. You've given me plenty of reasons to see why it wouldn't work for you. I won't be responding to any further comment regarding my post.

TonyB,

I know you said you wouldn't be answering anymore posts here, but if you ever do discover or start up such a site, please come back and let us know.

I would be very interested in learning how such a site can be ran successfully, and if it seemed like something God was allowing me to do, would most definitely consider joining if I didn't feel I had to display too many personal details right off the bat.

Best wishes to you!

That's a really good point. It shouldn't be too much to ask for us singles to have a paid dating site that actually WORKS well though. :D

My thought was a free but ad-driven model with no pay walls but some extra frills for those wanting a paid membership. So you would not have to pay to message potential interests, etc. but if you paid, your profile would get some extra exposure on main pages or even the ads themselves in the sidebar.

The site would be driven by success rate and word of mouth. "I found so and so on this website!" "Great, let me check it out!" etc. I believe in meritocracy when it comes to business.

I'd love to see your ideas brought to life to see if they could be utilized successfully.

The free sites I tried were all free because of they had the exact ad setups you described.

I know this site (CC) experimented with having such ads awhile back but if I remember correctly, one main reason they stopped is because they were finding they had no control over what ads were put up, and some of them went against Christian values.

what would the ads be about though

I think it should be your first date free and then you have to pay.

But.. what website would pay people to go on dates?

The problem is after the first date, why would you need that site any more? You would already know who the other person is and y'all could talk on Skype or text message or something.

There would need to be money coming in that is either given before the first date or completely disconnected from the user (i.e. advertisements.)

Well there are some on here bro 😁...but on a more positive note... I remembered searching online for churches who had ministry for single Christians (which we all could pray more for and maybe even start groups and promote them ourselves?) anyway, I found a church in the nearest city to me was running conferences and dinners for singles. I have been to quite a few over the years and there were a lot of people; sadly for me, mainly women! However, I found these events to be extremely encouraging and a fun thing to look forward to. I loved going until Covid stopped it all; so maybe they will start again soon I hope. This Church is linked with a good ministry for singles in Canada called ‘ Kris Swiatocho’ ministries; I’m pretty sure her ministry is worldwide and there will be churches linked to her. She has Youtube videos which are encouraging. I always remember her talking about how we have to get to a place where God is enough for us, single or not. This challenged me, but I know it is true.
I do often think that if the hairs of our heads are numbered then surely this matter really is in His hands, and we must seek Him to find the answers because He says, “ Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you.” His timing is not always ours but something that always strikes me as odd is that men who are trying to find a wife rarely seem to have a nice pic of themselves on their avatar, which really does strike me as a missed opportunity, potentially 😁🤣

Why would you, when you are one of those people who actually is content being single? 🤔
In fact Lynx, there are many Christian sites that have testimonies of marriages. Christian Cafe is one, Christian Dating For Free is another, and also Christian Connection.
The church I mentioned which runs conferences and dinners to encourage Christian Singles and facilitate opportunities for meeting others also have a wonderful couple who met at one of their dinners, who are very happily married.
God can and sometimes does use sites etc. I have also known of Him bring people together in other ways, of course. It’s good for Christian Singles to socialise whether they desire marriage or not; it definitely helps with loneliness and is also helping others to not be lonely... maybe if we all socialised with each other more it would lead to more connections and eventually marriages. I’ve heard of quite a few who married their friend’s brother, or met through friends.
I realise marriage isn’t for everyone, but the Word does say that he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains flavour from the Lord 🙂

Maybe a whole lot of churches in a state should get together and have speed dating. I am sure many matches would result from that maybe even a few weddings. If a group of people organised it, it could happen.
