Jesus Christ gives us a new life ! pain and suffering Jesus did for us ! there should not be an outward expression of their pain and suffering, it will never be greater than Jesus. and it does not glorify God.
does Christ still wear his scars, do you think? Thomas saw & felt them.

Amen. That is a very very good point. The only difference I find here is that the scars of Jesus were literal whereas oftentimes the scars that we try to reflect on the outside are mental or emotional scars. We can still "wear our scars" without making the point of trying to make them appear on the outside as they are within.

What was worse the pastor told me of I didn't remove all facial piercings God wouldn't answer any of my prayers....
Did he mention what the basis was for God hearing his own prayers? (i.e., in faith, through the name of the Lord Jesus on account of His sin atoning death at the Cross).

If it worked for him, then why wouldn't it work for you also?

How many people in here are Christian gothics?
I am curious to know since I do not think I am the only one in here that is that way!

For those of you that think all gothics are evil and do works of the devil that is not the case it's mostly a look of people who had a roughlife in the past and tend to show there pain and suffering through how they act and dress. Doesn't mean they don't love God or do crazy stuff
Some do but not all of us!
Hey there Goth girl :D

As long as you are passionate for Jesus and you really love Him I guess you can have the look you want? I have this friend, a real hip hop chick, she loves God and she is a true leader that people can look up to. As long as your relationship with God is in place I see nothing wrong with a goth look.

I dress in what I'm comfortable in.

As you guys can see, I'm kind of just me in how I dress. Bits of this and that - though I do have to admit I have like 50+ band shirts lol. I love my music, what can I say! Judging anyone on appearance is such a flaw to me. Pentagrams, black clothes, fishnets and all that stuff doesn't phase me. The person inside fascinates me and I want to love them as Jesus loves me :) Plus because I sometimes dress "out of the norm" I can go through doors and touch people for Christ others can't (or rather won't). I don't see barriers, just people.

I'm sorry to admit that is how Pentecostal churches are and we'll I'll do what I do find a new church
And you still want to make that awful dragon tattoo although you know the consequences? Why is that tattoo so important to you?
I am very against tattoes, piercings and other aspects of goth subculture because I don't believe they express who we really are. Only if we reflect God we can know who we are. We must deny ourselves, not adopt fake, exagerated and provocative identities and project them on ourselves and think that we are 100% us. The more you deepen into this subculture, the more you move away from your true self.

Simona25:

For you in Romania tattoos may represent a sub-culture.

In North America, they are very widespread; in fact, 59% - 70% of tattoo parlor users are women. It's not even unusual for grandmothers to get the names and dates of birth of their grandchildren tattooed.

I agree about the need to deny oneself. That being said, some Bible believing Christians would day that having some discreet faith based ink that may prove useful as a conversation-starter is not incompatible with a Christian walk and testimony.

I use the word subculture to designate modern communities of young people that associate themselves with a certain kind of music (most often is music). What follows is that they try to identify themselves with their new style and so, everything that they do revolve around that: they talk, dress, behave a certain way (which shows to which subculture they belong) and are very preoccupied to rend permanent some ephemere feelings and sensations through tattoes, piercings, clothes, art etc.
Goth subculture is a very egocentristic and narcisistic one (goth people are self-fascinated) and if I'm not mystaken this subculture has some occult roots. That being said, I don't see much commun ground for christians and goth style...
Christians are (supposedly) people that seek authenticity, not sensationalism and fake, pre-fabricated identities.

It's not even unusual for grandmothers to get the names and dates of birth of their grandchildren tattooed.
...Why? So that they don't forget their grandchildren names and birthdays?

We are to deny ourselves because only by doing that we discover ourselves in Jesus Christ (we see what beautiful creatures we are ment to become).

Or maybe people gravitate to sub-cultures that they identify with, rather than find a sub-culture and try to adapt to it. You speak as if you're an authority on the hearts and minds of millions of people you've never met. Perhaps rather than assuming you peoples intents and motives, and speaking For them stop talking long enough to Listen to them instead. Maybe you'll find out you are not as all knowing as you seem to think you are.

Maybe we all should just do what we feel led by God to do. We're all different and so I'd reckon are our individual relationships with the Lord.

Didn't you know that once you become a Christian you become a robot and lose all sense of individuality. That there is only one specific way to be a Christian and anything less is wrong. Despite the fact that the bible teaches the opposite of that, the 'really spiritual' people know better and need us to be uniform in every facet or we are less spiritual than they. So stop believing God created you with your own personality, your own identity and to represent Him in a unique way He has given you. Just follow the super spiritual people into a robot mindset and ignore the personality individuality, natural inclinations, interests and quirks God gave you.

Yes, friend. The irony of the belief of anti-individualism (for lack of a better word) is that its not Biblical at all. You can see that plainly just by looking at a few of any random people in the Bible. They certainly have their own personalities all the way across.

Well, I guess because it's important to them, they would say.

I realize that North America is different from Romania. In North America, older women getting tattooed is really not unusual.

This is from Huffington Post. 'Many Women Get Tattoos Post 50-and Don't Regret It Later', by Laura Stampler:

' "..most of my clients are in the older bracket," Gallo-Kohlas told The Huffington Post. "We see a lot of women in their sixties and seventies getting their first tattoos." Gallo-Kohlas recalls a woman in her sixties who got a tattoo because everyone in the golf clique at her gated community had one. It seemed like the thing to do in order to fit in.'

A lot of Christians have faith based tattoos.

I agree with your general point about the great importance of self-denial; the supreme example of this is with the Lord Jesus in Philippians 2, Who 'made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant...and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the Cross'.

They do try to adapt to it. If they didn't , they wouldn't all use the same code in dressing, language, attitudes, ideas etc.

That's what a subculture is, whether you like it or not. There is a noticeable difference between skaters and goths, you don't have to be a psychologist or another authority to see that.

Didn't you know that the early christians were a community of persons? Persons, not individuals! A person is opened to the other one, while the individual is closed in his egocentrism and vanity.

That there is only one specific way to be a Christian and anything less is wrong. Despite the fact that the bible teaches the opposite of that, the 'really spiritual' people know better and need us to be uniform in every facet or we are less spiritual than they.
Normally, people shouldn't need rules on how to dress and behave when they are in church (like Saint Paul said to Corinthians "doesn't your common sense teaches you...?"). I believe the early church was based on a tacit and unanimous agreement on what is decent and what is not. Your own conscience tells you that you shouldn't go to church with a pierce in your tongue and black lips (why would you even do that?) and when you plan to show up with a dragon that wraps his tale on your arm...it's even worse.

So stop believing God created you with your own personality, your own identity and to represent Him in a unique way He has given you. Just follow the super spiritual people into a robot mindset and ignore the personality individuality, natural inclinations, interests and quirks God gave you.
So sentimental.

Yes, it's a personal thing and it's not unusual for each one to be meaningful for the wearer, and this is why many Christians are willing to undergo the procedure and be inked with faith based designs.
