God has a sticky on it as well. God keeps perfect records. God has concluded that all men are sinners and that only the blood of Christ is sufficient to atone for those sins. No amount of works can atone for even one sin.

And the Catholic faith does not teach that works save. It teaches that works are part of true faith.
And that is why they are in error. Works are not part of faith at least not the faith that saves. Scripture does not say that faith comes by working and working the good works of the church. It says that faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. Ironically written by Paul to Christians in Rome.

The Apolstle Paul emphasized repeatedly that salvation is by grace ALONE through faith ALONE (Romans 3:21-28; 4:4-6; Acts 15:7-11; Galatians 2:15-3:29; Titus 3:3-7). He also taught that true faith produces good works, but the fruit of salvation-works-is never to be confused with the root of salvation-grace (Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:3-8).

The faith to receive grace comes from God and not from man. Hearing the word of God and the Holy Spirit applying it to our hearts by convicting of sin, righteousness and judgment.
Works are the result of salvation not the means of salvation. Works produced by the Holy Spirit giving unction to do or not to do according to the word of God.
Works for the believer are a verb not a noun. We work because Christ worked. Christ through the Holy Spirit produces works. Mans heart is not trustworthy only Christ is trustworthy.

I think a great point to think about is the actual differences. Catholics hold to many teachings that the rest of Christianity does not. Hence the whole reason for the Reformation that took place 300-400 years ago. It is not fundamentalist to hold to something that is based upon scripture, it merely is following what God has laid out for us through His word.

You seem to think that Catholicism is some minority and that Christianity is much larger. It's a common thing I see among Americans that think their country or their practice of the faith is like the rest of the world.
Catholicism: 1,100 million
All protestant sects combined: 700 million (if you were to compare Catholic like protestantism to non-Catholic like protestantism, it'd be like 300 million if even that)
E. Orthodoxy: 300 million (much similar theological to Catholicism than protestantism)
The reason for the Reformation was to give German and English princes ultimate power. And the Reformation began 500 years ago.
The title is interesting. How can something be a heresy when it existed since 33 AD and the other since 1517 AD? Which is the real heresy?

There is nothing wrong with basing what you believe on scripture necessarily. The problem is that people base what they believe on the teachings of theologians that train them to interpret/read scripture in a certain way.

I am not entirely sure that the papacy even existed at the beginning of Catholicism; however, I am quite certain that Catholicism did not exist until Constantine "created" it as a "state church" in three-hundred-something A.D.
No historian or serious scholar of Christian history would agree with what you just stated because it is blatantly untrue.
Constantine legalized Christianity. He did not create a state Church or a state religion. The term "Catholic Church" began in the 1st Century.
