My Dad was a barber and had some good ways to help children stay still enough to get through his haircuts.
When I was 4 or 5 I outgrew the hobby horse. He made a special seat/ saddle by mounting the head of it on a board. The children would hold the peg on the ears while getting their haircuts.
I still have it.
