1. From "Humble Calvinism" by J. A. Medders (a Calvinist author and site promoter):

  • "Many of us who love to love the 'doctrines of grace' have not grown in showing grace, We have not become more gracious, kind, tender, and compassionate. And that can only mean one thing: we actually don’t know the doctrines of grace. Sure, we know the points and can rehearse the arguments and even recall verses to support the five petals of the TULIP. But an arrogant and argumentative Calvinist is just a Pharisee with a fresh coat of paint."

2. The phrase, “You don’t understand Calvinism“ has become a popular meme due to the fact that other Calvinists have said this to not only me but to many other Christians over the years. https://soteriology101.com/2017/05/20/you-dont-understand-calvinism/3.

3. Calvinism is the gospel - Quote by Spurgeon:
“I have my own private opinion that there is no such thing as preaching Christ and Him crucified, unless we preach what nowadays is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. I do not believe we can preach the gospel, if we do not preach justification by faith, without works; nor unless we preach the sovereignty of God in His dispensation of grace; nor unless we exalt the electing, unchanging, eternal, immutable, conquering love of Jehovah; nor do I think we can preach the gospel, unless we base it upon the special and particular redemption of His elect and chosen people which Christ wrought out upon the cross; nor can I comprehend a gospel which lets saints fall away after they are called, and suffers the children of God to be burned in the fires of damnation after having once believed in Jesus. Such a gospel I abhor.”

Sermon, A Defense of Calvinism. - C.H. Spurgeon.

4. Calvinist author in his book provides these quotes:

When Paul reflected on the doctrines that make up what we call Calvinism, he was moved to rejoice in God. This is the key to not killing off today’s Calvinist upsurge. When we read our books, attend our conferences, and ‘Piperup’ our iPods, the primary goal must not be to gain a better understanding of 16th- and 17th-century doctrine. It must be to be blown out of the water by the God who has chosen us in infinite mercy and wisdom.” (18) - A quote from pro Calvinist author Greg Dutcher of the book “Killing Calvinism”

I believe with all my heart that Calvinism is a treasure. It beautifully summarizes and systematizes the truths concerning our salvation revealed in Scripture. But treasure in the hands of fools is a frightening prospect, and nothing fuels a fool more than pride. I pray that my fellow Calvinists would join me in hunting down every vestige of pride in our hearts, right down to the last lingering impulse of arrogance.” (82) A quote from pro Calvinist author Greg Dutcher of the book “Killing Calvinism”

5. Why I am a Calvinist by Brandon Lucas.

6. I have talked with Calvinists since 2010 on different Christian forums over the years and many of them did not have a problem with me using the term “Calvinism.”

7. Ligonier Ministries quotes a Calvinistic pastor on their website. He states, I quote:

”Pastor Ian Hamilton demonstrates that Calvinism is biblical, God-centered Christianity with important implications for our daily lives.“

So if you have a problem in others here calling you Calvinist, and say it is false slander then you need to rebuke all these others who refer to their belief as Calvinism and who hold to the same teachings you do. Granted, I do agree it is good to try and obey 1 Corinthians 3, but I believe one can clarify this and do so with acknowledging the truth that there are many believers out there who do self identify as being a Calvinist. To ignore this is to ignore the world we live in.

There's nothing more I can say to you. None of what you posted matters. You're determined to label me and are going to to that no matter what. Grace and Peace.

Well, I'm not sure; One day I just felt it in my heart that suddenly, I trusted in Jesus for my Salvation.

Believing is a big part of it. I believe that is where our faith begins.
Eternal life begins with believing the gospel message which is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 in that we believe that Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and risen the third day for our salvation.
But the apostle Paul also talks about the "work of faith" which is still a part of faith.
Paul also says in 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 that the gospel calls us in that God has chosen us to salvation through the Sanctification of the Spirit and a belief of the truth.
Hebrews 11 says by faith Noah prepared an Ark to the saving of his house.
Thats a lot of work Noah did as a part of his faith.

I was making efforts to not say Calvinism, and Calvinist in this thread but it is very difficult to not do.
There is also a fine line here, as well.
In one sense, saying a person is a Calvinist does not mean they are a follower of Calvin.
In another sense, it can be viewed that way.
As I said others do not agree with you who hold to the teachings of John Calvin.
Are you going to rebuke them for their claims in calling themselves Calvinists?
If it makes any difference to you, I will strive not to call you a Calvinist when speaking with you.
Granted if years past, I may not remember this conversation. So you may need to remind me.

....

Right...your lack of understanding. You don't understand how God can accomplish His will through the choices of men. Read Acts 2:23 for an example.

Also, when God changes an individual's heart, that person freely chooses the love of God. Read Romans 6:17 in this regard.
Ducking out of your Calvinist belief system again are we?

Indeed, Calvinists betray their deep-seated shame in like manner often.

However, these persistent episodes of confusion, self-loathing, inner turmoil and bitterness can end. If you are WILLING to accept the fact that the gospel message is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes......☺️

Well, the door swings both ways.
Do you see me as an Arminian?
How about as a Free Willer?
You don't have to say it.
Do you not have some kind of label for me in your mind about my belief?
Does it not help to use a label or term to distinguish between beliefs?
Have you never used the terms Trinitarians vs. say... Unitarians?
How about JWs? Catholics? These are labels.

I personally find "Free Willer" to be a little offensive as a label for me because I believe in Prevenient Grace (which I prefer to call "Temporary Enablement or Enlightenment"). Free will is only enabled or activated under God's enablement at the right time in a person's life to either accept or reject the gospel message. Free will to choose the gospel only exists in this state by the power of God. No human can exercise free will apart from God's drawing and enablement.

Which is funny given that your belief is that God forces things on us but not life. Your logic is the same as the
one who said, God convinced them of the Truth and then they got to decide whether to believe it or not. LOL
You walk right up to the line then stop short of believing what the Bible actually says.
You were made alive while dead. Dead in your sins. Your trespasses and sins.

Ephesians2-4-7s.png

Ephesians 2 v 4-7 ~ Because of His great love for us, God, Who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Keep in mind that the Bible does label or refer to false religious groups in biblical times:
  • Sadducees (e.g., Matthew 3:7)
  • Nicolaitans (Revelation 2:6, 15)
  • The Circumcision
So, if the Bible creates such labels for these false religious groups, then it is not necessarily wrong to create labels to identify certain beliefs to warn the brethren about. Is it not possible that you are simply playing the victim card when you may also create labels for others that they may not like?

See, that's your problem. You don't listen to what people post. I'm not ducking out of anything. Same thing I've been saying all along. But you can't get past all your presumptions to come to actual understanding. I even give you scripture, but you are so set in your ignorance, you can't even work through it.

Great comments, bro!

I believe Calvinism is not in line with God's goodness or character and or fair justice. It would be like a coast guard saving everyone on a lifeboat except for you and your family and when you ask him why he is not saving you and your family, he says.... “No reason, I just do not want to save you.” “You should be thankful that I am saving these other people.”

Calvinism is sort of like a dog owner who kicks his dog across the room like a football because it has an uncontrollable pooping problem (due to the fact that it is sick) whereby the dog squeezes out hot piles of steamy goodness on his master's white carpets. So instead of the master taking his dog to the vet and trying to help him, he just decides to kick the poor animal and to punish it. That's kind of how I see the god of Calvinism. For it is called UNconditional Election. Meaning, in Calvinism: God is not electing anyone based upon any conditions found within the individual. So God is simply creating many for the express purpose to be tortured for all eternity. That is their destiny that they cannot escape and God has chosen this only path for them. God wants many lives to suffer for all eternity and we should just be thankful that He saves a few when He has the power to save them all (But He simply doesn't). This does not sound like the loving God of the Bible. For John 3:16 says God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. 2 Peter 3:9 says God is not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance.

Somehow Calvinists take words like "all" and "world" and reinterpret them to refer to the few chosen Elect who are saved.
They do not believe the call of salvation is freely offered to everyone.
