He died for the sins of the whole world...

NOT.... for only the elect.

Here's one more reason why I say that.
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you,
who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, bringing swift
destruction upon themselves." 2 Peter 2:1
The Cross paid for everyone's sins!

Even denying the Lord who bought them!

.....
There is only one option concerning this. There are a plethora of verses that clearly and distinctly tell us that the Lord Jesus Christ Paid for the sins of the world/all/the many/ mankind.

The natural man cannot understand the things of God.

Yes.

@Rufus left the huge corner he was put in.

Did he receive Grace as a proud man or a humble man? God doesn't give Grace to the proud.

And @Rufus believes we can't humble ourselves. Yet, he received Grace.....the proud.

Sticky situation for the sneaky snakes.

The Grace given to all, to present the drawing onto salvation, is sovereignly given to all.
For once the flesh is silenced by God's power?
And a soul chooses to reject the drawing of God?
That one ends up being condemned.

If God's "sovereign drawing grace" depended upon humility?
There could be no grace given to those who will reject to make them to be without excuse!

When it says, God gives grace to the humble?
That speaks in reference to only believers. Those who have crossed over into regeneration.

God's drawing grace is sovereignly given to all, as to leave all who will reject God's drawing to be without excuse.
To be without excuse they had to be made able to not reject if they so choose.

GAP (grace and peace)

Same applies to believers who habitually walk in the flesh.
Reversionism sets in over time.
Agreed.

The reformed interpretation of 1 Cor 2:14 will accuse me of saying "you are not really saved."

With the right and doctrinal interpretation Paul was talking to BELIEVERS who were walking in the flesh.( the natural man.)

Saved, but quenching/grieving the Spirit.

I have only claimed free will to a specific setting of circumstances. Therefore I believe you must be addressing someone else. But Jesus and Peter both said [(whomsoever \ whomever \ whoever)] chooses to accept or believe in God shall be saved. That means ultimately TWICE the Holy Spirit claimed this sentiment. That is more times than anything else the typical Reformed has presented. And there's even a 3rd reference so that is God making this claim 3 times. Are you saying God is a liar when He tells us whosoever\whomever\whoever chooses to believe in Jesus will be saved?

Did those "whosoever/whomever/whoever believe by the efficacy of their own "freewill" or by God's grace?

Yes.

The process of Regeneration, the instilling of the Fear of the Lord and Circumcised Hearts all mightily contribute to producing humility in a person's heart even before his new birth. Besides there aren't two lumps of clay in this world -- one humble and one proud. There's only ONE lump of Clay (all arrogant and proud) from which God CREATES a new humble lump.

Like I said, WORD SALAD.

Were you humble or proud when you received Grace?

Get a clue: Many never = All. Nor does it ever = a Few.

What excuse do sinners have for their sins?

Well, in consideration of your faulty super-deterministic assessment of God.....I would urge you to repent of your folly.

[Job 42:7-8 KJV] 7 And it was [so], that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me [the thing that is] right, as my servant Job [hath].

8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you [after your] folly, in that ye have not spoken of me [the thing which is] right, like my servant Job.

That's the best you can do? You can't give one judicial reason for how God would be "unfair" or play "favorites"?

Hard not to cuss after watching that.

And you are spot on. We will go through a few pages(from the calvies) about how we are dead men in the grave. And when we argue that we can still make choices and we are still cognisant.........We get, "WELL WE ARE NOT DEAD!!"

Border line, nope, INSANITY.

NIV

Some misguided soul here thinks this passage proves that Christ died for everyone due to the highlighted portion of the passage. If only FWers could read!

"Were" in v. 1 is in the past tense. "Will be" is in the future tense. Peter is reflecting back to the OT false prophets. And the false prophets (teachers) that lie in these messianic believers' future to whom Peter was writing would also be JEWS! Since these false teachers professed to be believers, then that profession of faith would have also logically included a profession that God had redeemed (bought) them. Peter isn't making any doctrinal statements about the extent of the atonement per se but rather is focusing on responsibility of the false teachers and what their end will be.
