Genesis 2: 7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

What is the breath of life??

Job 38 verse 36 / Job 32verse 8 / Job 12 verse13 Who has put wisdom in the heart or given understanding to the mind? There is a spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding. Wisdom and strength belong to God; counsel and understanding are His.

Psalm 139:13-15 KJV - 3 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth

IMO the beath of life was a living soul that the Lord gave to Adam.

Just as our parents formed us from the earth, but the living soul came from the Lord

It is the spirit of God that God imparted to Adam. Since God is Spirit, imparting His own Spirit is the only way that Adam can be made in the image and likeness of God... God’s original intent.

The breath of life isn't limited to humans.

For example according to Gen 6:17, Gen 7:15, and Gen 7:22, every creature
aboard the ark with Noah, and every creature not aboard the ark, was
endowed with the breath of life.

If the breath of life were merely atmospheric gases, it would be possible to
revive a corpse with artificial respiration; so I think we have to conclude that
it's an energy vastly more powerful than anything found in nature.

It's my guess that the breath of life is what John the baptist was talking about
in Luke 3:8 when he said God is able to turn solid rock into sentient beings.

Spiritual Significance:
The "breath of life" is seen as more than just physical respiration; it represents the infusion of divine spirit, endowing humanity with the capacity for relationship with God, moral discernment, and spiritual awareness
