I don't think it's a matter of one or the other.. The new body, the spiritual body is, I believe, meta-physical (Iow, a physical body that can occupy physical space but also can violate natural laws of physics).
I think Jesus' resurrection was also a transformation into spiritual body- as our resurrection will be.

This question is kind of difficult to answer because we normally think of a "spirit" as being someone who is disembodied or without a physical body, even as the disciples did when the resurrected Christ first appeared unto them.
Luke 24:36
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
Luke 24:37
But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
Luke 24:38
And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
Luke 24:39
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
Luke 24:40
And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
According to this, the resurrected Christ had, and I believe still has, a body that consisted of flesh and bones. In other words, he wasn't a disembodied spirit.
At the same time, scripture seems to call this type of resurrected body that could be handled physically "a spiritual body".
1Corinthians 15:39
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.
1Corinthians 15:40
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.
1Corinthians 15:41
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:

According to this, our own resurrected bodies will be "spiritual bodies" in the sense that they will no longer be corruptible or mortal, but incorruptible and immortal instead. Seeing how our own resurrected bodies are likened in scripture to the type of body that Christ now possesses himself, I think that we can safely describe Christ's present body in this same exact manner.
Philippians 3:20
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
Philippians 3:21
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

1John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
Our bodies will be fashioned like unto Christ's glorious body or we shall be like Jesus when he appears. His resurrected body was "flesh and bones" per Luke 24:39, but apparently not "flesh and blood" per 1Corinthians 15:50.

Good question. It is the heart of our belief. If it were not physical,we have nothing to believe and hope for.
Christ's resurrection and ascension is symbolic of His promise to us. We, like Jesus, will rise on the last day and live.
So long as we do what Jesus says. It isn't enough just to preach the Gospel. We're called to live the Gospel. We are accountable for our actions and deeds and words to God on the day of Judgement.
How we treat others is how God will treat us on that day.
Christ's resurrection and ascension is symbolic of His promise to us. We, like Jesus, will rise on the last day and live.
So long as we do what Jesus says. It isn't enough just to preach the Gospel. We're called to live the Gospel. We are accountable for our actions and deeds and words to God on the day of Judgement.
