My daughter asked me to go to a boarding school. How many would send their kids to boarding schools, why or why not? How many have sent their kids or how many were students of such schools?

I don't have any experience with boarding schools, but I wouldn't send my kid to one.
In my opinion it's like making your child an orphan. I know that may be overdramatic to some. I don't believe a child is emotionally or developmentally mature enough to go to one. Certainty not spiritually mature.
I'm not aware of any Christian boarding schools but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. That would be better, though it's still no guarantee that something tramatizing or abusive wouldn't happen.
I think we all have the right to be around people we love and who love us. Kids can be so cruel.. even worse now I would say. Imagine living with the people you work with. Um.. No thanks.
It's very unnatural. God doesn't mention doing this, although one could say Samuel was as close to this situation. However it wasn't full of kids. Because it's unnatural, kids will have strange feelings such as home sickness, missing their parents on a consistent basis similar to the loss of a parent quite honestly. They distract the kids with activities to help with this. That's something you do when going through a hard time.
On a personal level I couldn't handle camp as a kid, so boarding school would be over the top. Lol So I couldn't expect my kid to do it if I couldn't.
i havent experienced myself it but I know a lady at church was sent to boarding school in her high school years because she lived out in the country and there werent enough students to support a high school.
so if its the choice between boarding school or no school at all then its a bit of a no brainer. This was back a few years now, lots more people live in the city, and theres more onlineand correspondence schools available now for homeschoolers. She boarded with a family, not actually at the school itself though.
I have worked on some jobs at private boarding school (gardening) which tends to be for wealthy students. some of these schools have a fearsome reputation but they have very high standards of care. even though theres a public high school right next door, the wealthy parents would pay huge sums for their children to go to the same school they boarded at, or just for prestige value.
Not so common in my country now but it is a tradition in England, as well as missionary schools for parents to put them in so they dont interact with the locals. There is still that snobbishness around private boarding schools though not all are like that.
How old is she, and why does she want to go? Never heard of a child wanting to go.My daughter would have to go kicking and screaming! LOL!!!
That is a good reason. I have considered boarding school for my kids at times. If she wants to go then that is very different than you trying to make her go. If the friendship with the pastors daughter is a good one then I think it is very important to prayerfully consider this. Is the school Christian? She's turning 15 soon. She's friends with the pastor's daughter, who's attending, that's one reason.
