Is it still common to spank?
I don't have children, but I have two nephews. My sister gave them a few taps when they were younger. But it's very easy to hurt a child or abuse using spanking. It ought to be a rare thing and for their safety.

as a parent, it concerns me that @Hjulle51 (whose profile is listed as "male/not married"
KEEPS asking this and bringing this up......
AND has been here under another user name where the only things asked/talked about where strict parenting and corporal punishment.
All I am going to ask is WHY???

okay, I can understand that.
But what I don't understand is why you keep asking if there is anyone who wants to talk about this...... people keep answering giving their opinions and you keep asking as though no one has replied.
Is there something more specific to the subject that you want to discuss, or are you just putting a feel out there for what might be considered "normal"?

Spanking spanking spanking. Spanking brings intelligence. Not past age 7 though - after that a look is enough. And, most important, after a spanking, hug the child and let them know you still love them.

I quit spanking my son at about 7 or 8. You can tell when they are too old for it.

My kids are almost 4 and 6 and I don't spank them. My mother was raised in an abusive home and never spanked me or my brother and she still managed to have good control of us. I'm still a bit scared of her, actually! That look!

As for our kids, they have positive and negative consequences such as not being able to do certain things like watch tv or play with a toy. We discuss things a lot and talk about everything in a frank but age appropriate way. I also make sure that I set a good example for my children, and walk out my life in a way I want them to see and copy.

The most important thing is their relationship with us, their parents, and for us to be very strong, confident and loving leaders. Janet Lansbury is a fantastic resource, and although she is secular, her approach is fresh and she thinks about the person of the child, not just how to controls kid.

I am an early years teacher and have taught children with such serious emotional andbehavipural difficulties that they have been excluded from school. These kids were something else: violent and full of hate and rage. Obviously in my job I couldnt spank them, but I was well trained in showing love and strong boundaries and that was enough. If it was enough to guide these poor kids, it's more than sufficient to raise my own kids.

hello, im a christian mother of two boys, and our faith plays a big part in our family life. The boys love church thankfully! was wondering if there are other like minded parents who still spank out there, or for those who dont how they do discipline?
Hi, while growing up I've never been physically spanked by my parents when they were alive. Are there parents out there that spank their teen son or daughter these days?

My personal conviction is that parents primary goal in life is not to have well behaving children. Children should be given the room to express themselves. I know parents don't like it when their children are not behaving. But isn't that a sign that something is wrong in the child's heart. Our focus should be on teaching the child to be able to drive their own life. Because as parents they won't be there all their life.

The following question comes to my mind. If our children behave and do everything that we ask as parents is good enough to prepare them for the future and for the coming kingdom of God. We know how manupaltive children can be? They can put up an act for all the years that they are under your roof and then the first opportunity they get to move out. And then parents are surprised at the behaviour and character traits of their children? The solution I see is that we need to show our children the error in their hearts that needs to be changed.

If you can, PM me and I hope to hear from you.
