In your opinion what is the best and MOST ACCURATE Bible translation and why? (I'm trying to find a really good Bible so all opinions are welcome!)

if you do a search I am certain you will find a two- digit nr of threads on that

You need to ask yourself would you like it translated "the third hour" or 9AM. Both are accurate but the first is "word for word". The 2 types of translations are "word for word" and "thought for thought". As you drift into the thought for thought you get more into interpretation rather than what the author said.

Seems as if each translation gets farther from the original Hebrew and Greek, and they use a lot of words, like in the amplified, that you can pick and choose what word you like. God isn't like that. He said what He said if you like it or not.

I'd avoid the KJV. The language is archaic and there are much more reliable translations available. I like the NRSV, ESV and HCSB.
I don't know, so I never read just one translation. You can get parallel bibles that have two to three different translations together.

If you know a second language, it can be interesting to read a passage in that language. It sort of makes you think differently about it (or, at least it does with me).

I like the KJV and the NKJV but use several. The real accuracy comes from...

Bible study is very effective when done on the knees.

If you look at all the "major" translations of the Bible they all have the same message and the same Gospel. So if you are actually looking for a "best" well you will get many different answers on that. If I were you I would stick to a word for word and not a paraphrase. KJV, NKJV, NIV, ESV, NAS, NRSV are all good. . It all depends on the word "style" you like. Everyone, including myself, has their own preference. Myself I would also chose a study Bible in the version you decide on. Personally a study Bible helps me in my own studies.

I believe the young lady is asking a honest question, but I share your opinion of what this could easily turn into.
I like translation that use the real name (YHWH) of the Creator personally, big surprise right? I stand by no group or origination that prints any bible, (disclaimer) and I do not think any translation is 100% perfect, but there are some solid ones out there IMO.

Also I think "The Chronological gospels" have some great translation work done from the Hebrew version of Matt.
If you would prefer a translation that is more common I would recommend NASB or ESV for ease of reading.
But definitly get a few translations and get a concordance and bible dictionary, IMO.

Is it that same version you said is "downloadable" here?
Im sorry I do not know what verse you are talking about, recently the discussion of added words in Mark 7, Acts 15, and 1 John 5:7-8 have come up. I know the Restoration study bible has many solid footnotes and I just reviewed the TSR (Institute for Scripture Research) one to be sure and the added words in those 3 places are not in that translation.
And yes that is free downloadable.

Otherwise, they all will be confusing.
From there, you have to simply go with the version that flows the best for you personally.
I like the KJV or NKJV....but I can only suggest them, because they might not work best for your style of study.

I like any translation that has tons of footnotes ABOUT what different families of manuscripts and how the difference read.
I do not like translations that have tons of footnotes that are "commentary" (giving their opinion of the meaning of a verse)

Why are you all liking this for, I threw this post together because I had no clue about bible translations.
