Best Christian Song of All-time Tournament 2024 - EVERYONE Welcome to Participant

Just for fun and to share our favorite songs, I thought we can have a christian song tournament. This refers to recorded songs.

Rules:

1. Please post a list of what you think are the 5 best christian songs.
- Your list must include the full Song Title and the Recording Artist (example: El Shaddai - Amy Grant). That's all you need! (please verify it's the full song title and spelled correctly)

2. (Optional) you may include a youtube link to the specific song version you want considered - which you can do by cut/paste the URL address and remove the "https//", so it looks like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txqw-u4V78
- Do NOT use the Insert/Video function as this will make it difficult to load the page for everyone.

After enough lists are posted, the top vote getters will be included in a final poll thread for everyone to vote on, including CC Members who have not submitted a list.

What's a Christian Song? -- You decide. A christian song generally conveys any expression of the faith. It does not have to be a praise song. It can be a hymn, but you must include a Recording Artist.

Below I've included a few examples to spark some thoughts:

El Shaddai - Amy Grant -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txqw-u4V78
Jordan Feliz - The River -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=maT4phfTXR4
Hold On - Kansas -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xikm2YS_7xM
In The Light - DC Talk -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQoK_ryT3uc
The Voice - The Moody Blues -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBNgPf0Sss4
Carrie Underwood - O Holy Night -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsvSWLtUxHk
Awesome God – Rich Mullins -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBnzAepXOE8
Carry On My Wayward Son - Kansas -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=2X_2IdybTV0
Wherever I Go - Dan Bremnes -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=S15mk_5nTdY
You Light Up My Life - Debbie Boone -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOShEUn0aA4
Road to Zion - Petra -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFHX55W6mSQ
Thy Word - Amy Grant -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6LC8cu03Ig
Jesus, Take The Wheel - Carrie Underwood -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=lydBPm2KRaU
Dive - Steven Curtis Chapman -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXqXIicm8uU
Love Divine - Phil Keaggy -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALVI-O_vbiM
Kerry Livgren - Ground Zero -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5M4OIWbLII
.
I like the songs in your list, but I will nominate Silent Weeper by Angie Lewis.

I also want to give a shout out to Larry Norman for being a founder of the CCM genre with The Rock That Doesn't Roll

I like Silent Weeper. I really like the sound engineering; especially the background electronica effects, and the layered reverb chorus at the end. Some sweet minor cord tonality melodies. I can see why it stuck with you.

Which songs in my "sample list" do you are the best songs?

GWH, I feel like I can ask you about this tourney cause you named a Larry Norman song. (I enjoyed The Rock That Doesn't Roll). I can tell from your two selections you have sizable christian music catalog in your head. I'll point out you didn't select Only Visiting This Planet, I Wish We'd All Been Ready, Why Don't You Look Into Jesus, Why Should The Devil, I Am the Six O'Clock News. Just curious, do you think The Rock That Doesn't Roll is a better song than those? If not, is there a reason you selected The Rock instead?

The problem with the progress of this fun tourney is by-in-large people's choices are literally too varied and/or obscure. In a manner of speaking, the participants who know christain music are pointing out "gems" or private favs that the vast majority have missed and are lost in an endless sea of songs. Which is fine, except it's the opposite purpose of the tourney.

Case in point, after 3 pages there isn't one song repeated. (LOL) Which means there are no "song contestants" yet.

There's no problem when I've done song tourney's for the best Classic Rock Songs of all-time... where a consensus easily develops. Why would christian music be a problem?

Thy Word - Amy Grant has made its way into hymnals as a standard. A "legend in its own time" so to speak, and no one selected it. Does anyone even know the song anymore? Do they think it's average now? Are new songs coming out so fast there's no longer a memory of stellar popular songs?

Considering the bestselling christian albums all-time... nobody selected a song from DC Talk, Switchfoot, Michael W Smith, POD or Amy Grant. There are two Petra song (thanks @Gojira) but not the same one.

What do you think? Do ya think I didn't explain the purpose of the tourney well enough? Do you think most of the people on this forum think all songs are exactly the same in quality? Do they think they are being immoral if they acknowledge some songs are aesthetically better? Do they think if they name a great song they're being "too common"? Is it they can't resist naming a "semi" obscure fav rather than name something obvious? Do people have no memory of songs that stood out as being strongly liked by most people in the history of christian music?

Like currently, the first 2 or 3 notes of these 3 songs come on and my daughters like "oh! Mom likes this song." (sometimes before I even know/realize what's playing  )

Ann Wilson: Strong

Brandon Lake: Praise You Anywhere

Then there's what I like to call timeless classics, like the old hymns, or the worship songs that are just great (powerful) no matter what the circumstance.

Don't run into many who know Lamb.
My husband introduced me to their music.
I found one of their cd's in a thrift store for $1 and was going to get it for an extra/backup, then my son saw it in my cart and knowing we already had a copy asked "COOL! Is that for me?" I couldn't resist and had to give it to him.

Been one of my faves since way back. All of their CD's are still available on line. And apple music too.
