The last thing we want is a president who is a people pleaser. He has to make difficult decisions and there will always be people who are not happy with those decisions. He and his party will be held accountable for those decisions and policies. So he will definitely have counselors and advisors, but you can't govern based on polls. Great generals like Patton and MacArthur were prima donnas, arrogant, put their foot in their mouth, and did things everyone else thought were stupid and crazy. The landing at Inchon being a great example. But they did what no one else could do and that is why we now view them as great generals.
MacArthur was lambasted for saying we should go into China which had a nuclear weapon at that time. But given the choice between a nuclear war at the time of MacArthur and one today I think we all would have preferred to have listened to MacArthur.
