[h=1]Police cite man dressed as banana carrying AK-47[/h][h=2][/h]

BEAUMONT, Texas (KBMT) —A Beaumont man was cited by police after riling up motorists by standing at an intersection carrying an AK-47 while dressed as a banana.

Derek Poe, owner of Golden Triangle Tactical gun shop, said the stunt was part of the store's grand opening after moving locations.

Poe said the man in the banana suit was holding an AK-47 across his back with the barrel pointing down and holding a sign with an arrow pointing toward the store.

He said this idea was to attract customers to the store.

A Beaumont police spokesperson said officers temporarily detained the 18-year-old and found he had the rifle with a drum magazine attached with at least a 50-round capacity.

The spokesperson said the teen was cited for violating a city ordinance that prohibits soliciting in and alongside roadways.

What kind of country are we livin in, when a man dressed as a banana can't stand on the corner holding an Ak-47 without big brother infringing on his rights to be dressed as a banana and hold an AK-47?

The alleged culprit was unable to give law enforcement the "slip".

I thought you were going to say something about Ray Comfort having an AK47. Thankfully it was just some dude in a banana costume.

That's explained in the original news report.

This is tyranny! Government run amuck.
When a man can't dress as a banana, and carry an Ak47 and run amuck, then our government has indeed gone amuck.

:p

Well he was trolling for for starters and the police didn't understand his method.

His costume was clearly an allusion to a "banana clip" 30-round magazine, yet his rifle was attached to a circular drum magazine--essentially the guy was acting out Hegelian dialectic with a costume and a rifle.

Note that he was cited for soliciting which seems apropos since he was engaged in commercial advertising. If he was just conducting performance art then he would have been protected under free speech laws and Texas's firearms-carry law.

On the other hand, yeah, in Texas ...
