My Lord, this Sisiter is asking a serious question and all you guys have is your own personal ideas.
Forist of all if you using the ESV, NASB, NKJV or KJV you will find one Scripture that has the word "backslider" in it, it you use the NIV or RSV you will not find it at all, so let's look at the verses before the verse that has backslider in it and those after as well to see what it is saying. Proverbs 14:14 is the verse that has the word in it. 14:12-16
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.13 Even in laughter the heart may ache, and the end of joy may be grief.14 The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.15 The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.16 One who is wise is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is reckless and careless.17 A man of quick temper acts foolishly, and a man of evil devices is hated.18 The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.”
From these verses it seem as though the backslider in heart relies on his own thoughts or reasoning which leads to death and grief are in the two verses before verse 14 and the good man or a backsliden man in heart are given in verses 15-18. This does not mention anything about salvation as so many would tell you that a backsliders is one that has fallen from salvation. Which is a man made doctrine, once a person is justified by the Lord they can not be judged for that crime or sins (past, present and future) again if they were that would be double jepardy and the Father would be an unjust judge, which we know He is not the case, He is a righteous judge that knows all things, He has all the information to judge rightly.
Rely on the Lord in all your ways and you will never have to worry about being backsliden in heart. Because once we have been called into the body of Christ, the Father looks at the finished work of Christ in His atoning work, instaed of our sins. Hallelujah if our salvation depended on us keep it, maintaining it or doing good to receive it we would all be in our sin forever.
