From my experiences I think much confusion is developed in the way the word "generation" is used. This is seeing it is used two ways .
One to represent that seen the temporal and the other not seen, the eternal faith principle.

I think it had to do with the end of the temporal age that God used the faithless Jews to preach the suffering of Christ beforehand and the glory that did follow... the opening of the graves. Opening the door to the first resurrection in the heavenly Jerusalem prepared as Christ eternal bride the church.. He had used that time period as a parable using shadows and flesh to represent the unseen eternal. .

The time of reformation had come. The genealogy in respect to the "generation of Christ" the spiritual seed it had become fulfilled those old testament graves of the saints entered in the generation of Christ , as a new beginning of new creatures. Formerally of the generation of Adam the generation of evil as those who have no faith but walk by sight after the natural course of this world.

Again relating to the word "generation" or beginnings. The this generation below being the same this generation as some who are standing here will not taste of death until they see the kingdom of God come with power. The generation of Christ the new creature. The us in Christ.
The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.Matthew 12:42

The temporal generation
Genesis 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;

The eternal generation
Matthew 1:1 The book of the "generation of Jesus Christ", the son of David, the son of Abraham.

The temporal generation

Both generations in a parable compared spiritually
1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

That glory represents the law and the prophets(God's word) .The upcoming glory on the last day . When the Sun and the moon as temporal time keepers shine no more, but are under the feet of the chaste virgin bride, the church .

I like to se you express Truth that we cant nail down, that we cant say it means this and no more. Nailing down the Truth of God is to stop learning: the more we learn the more we know how little we know. I suppose its ok to nail down the Truth, we did at the cross, though it's to late for that, and time to acknowledge the mystery. "In the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when He shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished as He declared to His servants the prophets." What we are told of the mystery is God is God gathering all things in Christ, of things in heaven and things in earth.

By the way, God had planned since the begining to restore all things in this last millennium or last Day, known as the time of end, called also time of Apocalypse, exactly in this millennium that just started and in which we are living.

The sealed book was written within and without and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe as was seen by the prophet. Check it in Ezekiel 2:v.10

What the Most High had planned to happen in the Lord's Day was hidden, but it was written in a sealed book whose content did reveal all things to happen in the last Day, i.e in the last millennium that is the millennium of Christ, the end of the time. So, the content of the book would happen in the seventh and last Day exclusively. Well, this book would be the last of the Bible, the book of Apocalypse .
JESUS received the sealed book from the Father to reveal its contents

The people of God, mainly the true Christians, they need to remember and understand that it was yet the end of the fourth Day and the beginning of the fifth Day when JESUS ascended into heaven, by the way, the third heaven.

The sealed Book
The sealed book was with the Father and He gave it to JESUS. The next step was with JESUS in revealing the content of the book unto His people describing all things to John by a strong angel, actually an Archangel, that would happen in this last period of a thousand years, that is the Day of the Lord and the Millennium of Christ.

The TRAVEL of John the Apostle to the last Day, the Lord's Day
John the Apostle was caught for a travel to the future, in the space and in the time, spanning a period of two thousand years, and he was brought to our days, to this 7th and last Day or 7th and last millennium, that is the Lord's Day, and getting here he heard a great voice behind him, as of a trumpet, saying: "What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia;" (Note: trumpet means message, allegoricaly. And more: remember that God calls those things which be not or nonexistent as though they already were).

In this point, I must say that once the Apostle John was brought to our days in which we are living, the things which were written to the seven Churches of Asia are simbols of the Churches of today, understand? Speaking spiritually, the list of good and bad things of the Churches of Asia, be them right or wrong, be them true or fake, the things which happened in the Churches of Asia are the same that also happen today in the Churches around the world. Terrible, very terrible, because the angels of the mojority of the Churches in Asia were tolerants with wrong behaviors spiritually and the same occurs in the Churches of today. This is not an accusation, this is a fact, this explains the why the Churches are infested of apostasies and even idolatries and are reflected in the forums.

Waiting and looking for hastening the coming of the Day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?"
Seeking first the Kingdom of God persistently, we will find what we look for, and many are cough up to God and return as a witness of Him to testify and be a light in the final battle. May be lest controversial had I not referred to rapture, that also expresses cough up in a Love relationship, in our case with God. Not the second coming at the end of the world, this is understood by many and can be researched. Neither do I believe that the body disappears from the earth during rapture but that we are changed by the experience and can have more than one experience, there are accounts of this. The final time of trouble just begun and its why we need to see God's perspective and stand in the battle, not about the church disappearing, maybe in 10 years. Many are saying I don't need to see to believe, but are they really saying: it takes so much discipline to persevere to seek the Lord. Actually it's impossible without the Holy Spirit, and Soaring effortlessly like an Eagle by His Spirit. But your right before soring, an eagle has to exert its strength to reach the updraft.
From a sermon I heard 37 years ago, the best sermon I heard, you don't forget such things, especially with the picture language:
The Way of perfection revealed in creation:
"The invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by things that are made."
"There are three things too wonderful for me, yes four which I can't attain to: the way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent up a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a maiden."

"The way of an eagle in the air"
Soaring effortlessly on rising air currents:
"Even the youth will be weary and the will of young men exhausted; but they that wait on the Lord shall renew strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
When fledglings learn to fly some won't learn at once the use of their wings to reach the updraft and end up left on the ground to fend for themselves until willing to learn. Identified with creature comfort we will not learn to soar with God, but having had a taste as brief as it was won't be forgotten. We experience this from time to time in worship but until we learn obedience of faith, we lose direction of the wind of the Spirit and end up back on the ground, to "Run and not be weary" of those desiring to be in charge, and "walk and not faint" from trouble and fears. One such eaglet like myself who would not learn at once, was found by a farmer and nurtured in his chicken coop for a while, until the memory of soaring overtook the nurture of comfort that would not satisfy, and disappeared to destiny.

"The way of a snake up a rock"
Climbing a rock by making a vacuum with its belly against the rock:
"I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: you therefore, wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
To seek God in our heart and continually return to Him, to become One with "The Rock that is higher than I." With Patience unaffected by circumstances we find the Way; avoiding the sand of the world, that would break oneness between us and the rock and cause our downfall. Not to be blinded by self-sufficiency and resist the operations of Grace: to suffer all things with a single eye to please Him, "Harmless as doves." Neglect of Interior Life is not remaining in Him who Is the Life of the vine, the God of all comfort. "You shall seek Me and find, when you search for Me with all your heart."

"The way of a ship in the midst of the sea"
There is always a way with the wind:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that Love God, called to His purpose."
Every journey has its beginning, progress and fulfillment; beginning in prayer is labor until we enter into rest in God; leaving our comfort zone behind, cords are loosed to push off from the old port, to clear harbor and put to sea. We leave creature entanglements in labor of beginning, to proceed to the interior: the kingdom of heaven within under the rule of His Spirit. Laid bare in prayer we expose areas of our heart held back to yield our whole heart in the wind of the Spirit. Leaving familiar land behind and spreading sails in the wind of the open sea, we proceed so swiftly that oars are useless and laid aside: prayer becomes effortless. When winds are contrary we progress by tacking into the wind: tactful to get past complaining and turn to the Lord who Is resting in the ship. We rest from our labor and glide rapidly along without toil and make more Way in one hour than a day rowing on our efforts. The comparison of the outpouring of His Spirit is so much greater that in one day yielding to the refreshing of His Spirit advances us more inwardly than a year on our own efforts. "For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere." "Strive to enter His rest."

A new relationship effortlessly drawn to Love:
"Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they shall ask, it will be done for them of my Father in heaven. For where two or more gather in My Name, there I Am with them.”
The Song of songs is the similarity of romantic friendship love and friendship with God. Love is its own reward, motivating the relationship of its own accord: to cease from ourselves and find rest in the Beloved. While thanksgiving rules the heart, what we see and hear, reason and speak, or eat and drink, does not distract from Love. Neither does our prayer need to be filled with words but agreement of Love: agreement more wonderful than a dream becomes reality and nothing else real. This is not too wonderful to experience in romantic love: we feel we have arrived. But we don’t attain to remain on this mountaintop and guard our hearts from taking things in our hands again. "In the world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." We suffer many ups and down to cease from ourselves and find rest in the Beloved. We long to be loved intimately and carried emotionally, but having left our first Love, we are not One with God as we should and relationships become work. What was once effortless is now tiring, "Man that is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble." Admiration worship is in secret, to find Him openly in everything. The inner life of Jesus is hidden in solitude and unless we are led by His Spirit we don't know the Way. "He that is joined to the Lord becomes one Spirit with Him." “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and humble in Heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

I like you post Oseas, Just want to clear up that the last millennium or reign of Christ has not yet begun. The simplest explanation is the rebuilding of His temple began when Jesus began His ministry at 30 years of age and when He died for us in the year 33.
"To God a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day." The following verses have double meaning:
"Destroy this temple and in tree days I will raise it up."
Whe Jesus began His ministry, "Today and tomorrow I heal the sick and cast out devils and the third day I shall be perfected."
Hosea 6: “Come, let us return to the Lord. For He has torn, but He will heal us; He has wounded, but He will comfort us. After two days He will revive us, and on the third day He will raise us up and we will live in His sight."

Israel is established in their land again in 1948. Jesus referred to labour pains of the Resurrection.

Labor pains become more intense and closer together. "At that time your people will be delivered, everyone whose name is found written in the book. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting Life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever."

I know precisely where this "stillness" feller is coming from. It comes from one not being really SURE concerning God, and/or Jesus.
What happens? Is that the *adversary (?) comes in and starts attacking what little faith one has. To the point where the person starts putting 2 and 2 together, so to speak.

Reasoning within him/her self? If it's true that evil and the devil are real? So God and/or Jesus is real as well!
Now where this is in the Bible? The CLOSEST scripture I have come across?

* One could compare the "usage" of the term adversary, to the IRRESTISTABLE Grace of God! In the showing of either His wrath which IS "inescapable." Or? In His removal, or hiding of that person's FAITH. Thereby giving that person plentious quantities of what life WITHOUT faith, would be like!

Either way? Like I've posted in here numerously? God KNOWS which buttons to push, on His children, and just how hard TO push 'em!

Paul the Apostle, also warned: " Let no man deceive you by any means: for that Day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. The consequences:

All those who were selling oil OUT OF TIME (Pastors, Evangelists, Missionaries, Bishops, among others) it because they did not discern the time and all them were left out of the God's Kingdom and they lost their souls, and the foolish virgins followers of those Ministers lost themeselves also with them. The Christian people must take care because we have just entered the first century of the seventh and last millennium or seventh Day, the Lord's Day and the Millennium of Christ, so whom are not discerning it they are in great danger of being out of the kingdom of God that will be established in this seventh and last millennium or seventh and last Day..

Yes, JESUS drove out of the temple of Jerusalem them which made it an house of merchandise, and the Jews asked Him: What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

JESUS answered them, saying: Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. But JESUS spake of the temple of His body.

In my view, JESUS was speaking of His Church that is the temple of His body. Peter the Apostle said: But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one Day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one Day. I think that Peter quoted it from
Psalms 90:v.4 of Moses, who first revealed how the Most High counts times.

Thus, from JESUS until this time of Apocalypse has passed two complete days (around 2.000 years or 2.018 years in accord Christian calendar) , so we are in the beginning of the third Day, that is the third millennium, precisely in the first century of the third millennium.

In accord biblical Chronology and sources of universal history, from Adam until JESUS had passed around 4.000 thousand years. When God revealed Himself to Moses, had passed around 2.500 years or two Days and half in God's counting. From Moses until JESUS had passed around 1.500 years, then from Adam until JESUS had passed around 4.000 years or four Days. I am saying this just so that I will come to be understood of how I count the times.

Therefore, in my view, from Adam until today has passed around 6,000 years, in the way God counts the times, it has been six Days. We have just entered in the seventh and last Day or seventh and last millennium, the Millennium of Christ, the Millennium of Truth, the Millennium of Vengeance, the Millennium of Judgment, the Judgment Seat of Christ, and establishment of the Kingdom of God here on earth.

The biblical point you have focused accord 2Pe.3:v.12 , in my view is very very interesting and profound. I would like to say that I like to decipher biblical enigmas like these focused by you. Scriptures say, as you have posted, "the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved". The question is: which heavens will be dissolved? God created the 1st, and the 2nd, and the 3rd heavens, and the heavens of the heavens.

That said, I would say that the 3rd heaven where the apostle Paul was when was caught, and the mysterious heaven of heavens, these two heavens can not be dissolved now in this Lord's Day, I think that these two heavens will never be dissolved. Then for decipher this enigma in the content of you post, it is necessary to identify the 1st and 2nd heavens within Scriptures, of course, because without any doubt the 1st and the 2nd heavens are the heavens which will be dissolved by the fire as was prophesied by the apostle Peter.

I did search in the Word of God how the Most High God creats heavens. Reading Ephesians 1:v.3 : 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in HEAVENLY places in Christ. Question: In what heaven are the people of God living and walking now, even now?

Philippians 3:v.20 says: Our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. Again, question: In what heaven are the people of God living and walking now, even now, looking for the Savior the Lord JESUS Christ? Well, blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in HEAVENLY places in Christ.

But what is heaven? In my view the biblical expression "heaven" has nothing to do with the physical space of the Universe, called by men, sky, but with an celestial environment created by the Most High God here on earth to put His people inside it. As it is written in Philippians 3:v.20, "our conversation is in heaven, from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ".

Our conversation is in heaven, but in what heaven or heavenly place in Christ? Seems the answer is only and only one: It is the celestial environment created by the Most High God through JESUS, establishing here on earth the Dispensation of the New Testament.

Cotinuing in my search, I found in Isaiah 51:v.16 the follow revelation: 16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may PLANT the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people. Based in this revelation, JESUS and His apostles planted and developed the 2nd heaven, being confirmed by the Church, the body of Christ, along the times until today. The Dispensation of the New Testament is the 2nd heaven.

And the first heaven? The 1st heaven was planted by Moses first, and continued through Judges, and prophets, and endure until John the Baptist, that is the Dispensation of the Old Testament. This was the first heaven established by the Most High God here on earth.
But now, even now, in the Lord's Day, these two heavenly environment will be dissolved in fire. By the way, the everlassing Spirit of God is a devouring fire. And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may PLANT the HEAVENS, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.
