here is how you introduced yourself mr fulldeck

Hello. I'm new here.

I have a few quick things I'd like to request prayer for.

First that God would bring me closer to him and his will, and that he would bring me to a good church community, and that he'd reveal his purpose for me as to how he wants me to serve.

Second would be that I'm asking for prayers to soon sort out what I want to do with my life, as I feel without direction and unable to make decisions. I'd like to go to college, and I'd also like to find a new job. I also ask for prayers for my current job to go well and that I'd get great reports. I'm doing ride share, but I don't think I want to do it too much longer. It makes me want to smoke, as I've found I get easily stressed being on the road for too long, and I don't want to become a smoker.
there is nothing wrong there, but you are hardly in any place to tell others how to live or what judgement to use

interesting you give yourself such leniency and admit to needing direction but so quick to judge others that you do not know and serve up religious expressions that do not have a ring of truth to them coming from someone who is so quick to judge

enjoy your stay. you are not exactly believable

That's the point I was making in reply to the post that defined repentance as turning from sin. Indeed the scriptures don't imply God sinned. But when people say "repentance means turning from sin," people are implying God sinned by their definition according to Jonah 3:10 which says God repented.

interesting

when a person AGREES with God, aren't they turning from sin?

you cannot say you agree with God and yet NOT turn from sin

people say what they understand and there is more than one way to understand what repentance means

and when scripture says God repented, it does mean He changed His mind, but at the same time we can possibly qualify that as not according to a human. God knows the future so the writer expresses what a person, in the timeline of finite understanding, would be able to accept and understand

scripture is plain, we do need to turn from sin...from beginning to end, that is made more than plain

If sin is transgression of the law as scripture clearly states, then turning from sin is turning from transgression. Therefore turning from sin is to follow the law. It's the law itself that says turn and cease from sinning - "Thou shalt not".

Just because I don't hold to your opinion, doesn't mean I'm attacking you. No need to play victim.

So to agree dead faith is saving faith?
No, faith without works is dead. Works are a manifestation of faith that is based on the shed blood of Jesus dying on the cross for the remission of sin and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead in the process of repentance.

You did indeed attack by your baseless statement saying that I was desperate to hold on to my accomplishments and that I trust in my own righteousness as if you really know me and what is in my heart based on a single post that I wrote. I am certainly not a victim whatever you meant by that. It would be better if you refrain from hastily jumping to conclusions.

If you disobey God you have sinned, so yes, one that professes to love God should turn from sin, if this means following the law so be it but it would be better to follow the spirit of the law rather than the letter of the law. Either way, following the law will not lead to salvation but as only Jesus dying on the cross provides such salvation. I consider that following the law (10 commandments) as part of a life-long sanctification process.

I am having a serious problem following your thought process in this thread.

Sometimes I think repentance can be a work. And at other times I think it can be the act of faith. I think it all depends on what is going on in the heart of the believer.

Consider what Paul said to the Thessalonians. (1 Thess. 1:9) "For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God."

This was true repentance. They turned to God from idols. The emphasis here I believe is that they 'turned to God' in faith, and that act of turning to God naturally led them to turn from idols.

Had Paul said it the opposite way, 'how ye turned from idols to God to serve the living and true God', then the emphasis is on a work. You first put down your idols and then turned to God. Which is why I believe Paul didn't say it that way.

The same action is taking place but something different in the heart exists depending on the emphasis.

Years ago I argued this with our pastor who had a tendency to be legalistic. He said it didn't matter what order Paul said it. I said it did. Then several months later he was preaching out of (1 Thess.) and came to this verse. And when he quoted it he said just opposite of the way it was written. He said, 'how you turned from idols to God'. So apparently it did matter, and that way fitted his more legalistic spirit.

He never did get around to telling me what church/group he was part of.................he uses info from a nonconformist.........so maybe, I thought, he believed himself to be a nonconformist......but he would not admit that either...........

Ya know the problem with nonconformists don'tcha?

Remember hippies?

They were going to be the ultimate nonconformists.............ended up..........they ALL dressed alike, looked alike, talked alike wore their hair alike, did the same drugs, same music...........

You might say they became the CONFORMED nonconformists.......

This guy (if he identifies as a nonconformist) joins a Christian web site, posts and converses with other members on the site........and, goodness.........he has CONFORMED to the norm of the old inerweb!

Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

Now this will put a pull in the panties.......repent... First works???

I'm just the messenger talk to the author if you disagree 😑😑😑😑😑

Yes,although GOD IS sovereign and could have made men like perfect robots that will not sin,GOD made man so that he would have the right to free will and GOD loving righteousness would not have a relationship with men with sin but GOD knowing what's best for man knew what choice men would have taken If men had of known what effect sin would have had on them made a way for man to have a relationship with him.

The law was added because of Adam's transgression meaning he made the choice to have It his way and would have to be perfectly righteous of his own strength but because of the weakness of his flesh he could not be perfectly righteous,ENTER JESUS as a man fulfilled the law perfectly and took power righteously from the devil and once again GOD gave Grace to all those who believe In HIS WORD.

GOD's will be done.
Amen

I'm sorry that you need to go through other's unrelated posts in an attempt to pick people apart to feel better about yourself. After all you're so confident about your self-righteousness I don't see why you would need to do that. I forgive you that you hold that much of a grudge. Jesus loves me and that's enough for me. He loves you too.

I'm not worried about your life, but your salvation in Christ by faith alone apart from works.

I truly do pray that you find the love of God.

A verse directed at already saved believers (They already repented from unbelief). Now they must repent - change their mind - and do the first works, or that church will be removed from it's place as temporal judgment. Thank God they were saved from hell by simply changing their minds from unbelief. Now they had to just change their current mindset and love Jesus again, and do the first works they did after getting saved. This is about chastisement. Not salvation.

Still afraid huh? And, what about the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit? How we receive that. You never answered that question either.........fact is, you don't do well answering questions........just issuing judgments 'n such......

Sincerity ain't your strong suit is it?

(oh, and btw.......you just did answer such a question by stating that you don't.....too, too funny)

I just want to tell you Jesus loves you. Revelation 4:11 says God created all things for his pleasure. You are a created thing. I pray for a mutual pleasuring between you and God.

I can understand why you don't want to actually discuss Scripture.........

I'm guessing that this is the most attention you have ever received from a Forum huh? That's ok, everyone needs a wee bit of attention now and again........

Absolutely....thank you....just like to point out that Jesus said not only to repent but do your first works over.....not either or but both.

I don't know how you repent from unbelief....could you explain???
Don't know where you got temporary judgement from.
I can't speak to the part of saved or not but I do know......this church doesn't exsist anymore. Gone...most likely a mosque. Guess they didn't heed the warning.
