Your first tattoo: at what age did you get it?

PS: Presley: I don't know if you have got your appointment yet, but beforehand you might want to go talk it over at length with the guy who is going to do it, so that you and he are on the same page about all the details. That first and maybe second interview/discussion is very important, so make your you go armed with as many questions you can think of.

I'm aware of the fading part. But I would lose my job if it were a darker, more obvious color. White lets me get the tattoo without worrying too much if I forget to wear a watch.

Some Christians may well look at it in this way, and this is fine. Particularly in the case of a clear, faith based design, some Christians may look at it as an investment in witness opportunities, since they are proven conversation-starters.

Oh I've already done all of that. I'm just waiting until he draws it up for me and I won't have it done until after I have my car paid off. I don't wanna waste money on a tattoo when I have a car payment to make. Needs before wants.

And yeah I did change it lol

PS: Presley: Anyway I reckon your mom will be pleased for your sake that you'll have had it done, glad that she has a grown up daughter that wanted to do it, even if for now she doesn't understand the reason for the design itself.

IS there a stated age? In some countries were some tribes, they tattoo there young at a very age, even in ancient times. But in most countries today. People will have Tattoo's around 16 onwards. As a Christian I think we need to have right decision when having a Tattoo. As we not under law but under grace. So if we as a Christian is to have a tattoo, then we its good to take note to have right discernment of what type. Longs the tattoo don't promote violence, evilness, demonic, even images of Christ. As we all know it says not to create an images from heaven above or the earth below.

Personally I don't think its bad to have a tattoo, and it's not a sin. Just we as Christians need to think and have right discernment as to what to have.

Do you think a faith based one can be effective in witness conversations?

Don't know about the UK but over here in North America the demographic has changed hugely re. tattoos; 59%-70% of parlor clients are female; and often they are faith based in design. It's no longer just a man thing for sailors and bikers.

misty77: I guess you checked at work? they can't say you shouldn't be tattooed because you and others already are, right? but I guess it's a case of how obvious faith based ones are, if they are not covered.

Anyway, choosing to get them done in exactly the right spot and remembering to cover them if necessary, can be kind of fun in itself.

Presley: Well, nice; she seems to have found something she appreciates doing; unlike years ago when it was mainly a man thing, it's become also very much a womanly thing to do, once the person is grown up.

Tattoos can be really nice. So can rock music and screamo, but even with these, it really counts as effective in testimony of the lyrics are God-honoring. So with tattoos as well; it's particularly good if faith based designs are a means to communicate testimony clearly.

Let's hope one day your mom's heart will be such that she wants to have as well some ink that testifies for the Lord — like her daughter!

Lol yeah. My mom was never one to not do something because it was a man thing to do. But that's just her.
I sure hope so. She does believe in God she just doesn't care the way she should. But she almost got a cross on her leg at one point but changed her mind. Maybe one day she will want to again. Or at least want God again. (I pray it's this one though)

It doesn't even have to be big to be effective. Other Christians might prefer a small Christian fish symbol or a Bible ref.

The main thing about the Cross is to understand what happened there, and why. So keep praying that your mom, by faith, will understand. Blessings.

FYI, from huffingtonpost dot com: '...Gallo-Kohlas told The Huffington Post. "We see a lot of women in their sixties and seventies getting their first tattoos." Gallo-Kohlas recalls a woman in her sixties who got a tattoo because everyone in the golf clique at her gated community had one. It seemed like the thing to do in order to fit in.'

Oh I know it's not anymore. I just meant my mother never was the kinda person to do something because it was a "man/woman" thing to do.

I know a woman that is 72 that just went and got a new tattoo.
I'm not a fan of it but I still think it's pretty cool she had it done.

So is there a good parlor near you? feeling a bit anxious since it will be your first one?

These days, anyway, going to the parlor for ink is a bit like going to a salon. So first ink need not be hurdle that it might once have been. (In any case, faith based designs can be a good witness opportunity, which presumably is the whole point of them for a lot of Christians.)
