Advice on Poetry?

Writing on subjects you're unfamiliar with takes times to adapt to. And practice. Try practicing on smaller bits, maybe a paragraph, just to familiarize yourself with it and to allow your mind to move into thinking in those terms during creative moments.
It will probably start out bad, but that's ok, it's just practice.
And try not to force the subject, but rather learn to write what it is that wants to come out of you.
Avoid a lot of Christian lingo. If it reads more like a theological statement than poetry you're doing it wrong.
Though I must say most Christian poetry I've seen sounded very trite and forced seeming to prefer pushing a religious message than expressing themselves in any creative manner.
