Baptism by water was simple an outward sign of an inward change. Water doesn't wash sin from you.. It was another parable honoring John who was baptizing at the time. This is also why Paul gave up on water baptism, and told us the real power was the acceptance of the fire of the spirit.

Baptism is fundamental to the gospel of salvation.
It is most certainly a part of the process of repentance.
A Christian MUST be born new through the baptism of full immersion in water AND in receiving the indwelling
Holy Spirit.
A true Christian is baptised in water and baptised in the Holy Spirit; and thus can also pray in tongues as the evidence
of such.
Water baptism is represents dying to the old person, burial, and then resurrection of a new person committed to living
a new life in Jeses > which leads to the second component of this baptism > baptism in the Holy Spirit; that is
receiving the power to fulfill this, and to become an overcomer by the power of God.
After reading your opening post it appears your a oneness pentecostal. You also quoted Acts 10:44-48 which actually militates against your position as some have already posted. At Acts 10:45 it clearly states that they received the gift of the Holy Spirit first, before they were water baptized.
What your doing is making water baptism a work as well as speaking in tongues as a work and yet we are saved by grace through faith and not of works, it is a gift of God. Ephesians 2:8,9.
Receiving a gift is free with no attachments or conditions in receiving the gift. But you know what is really ironic and what bothers me about your thread? I know you never thought about this but you mentioned the thief on the cross was under the law. Well answer me this question?
Since you say the thief was under the law how come it was easier to enter Paradise that very same day with Jesus? If were really under grace (which we are) why are you imposing people to get water baptized and speak in tongues to be saved? Are these not works waggles? It was the thief's faith that got him into Paradise because he admitted he was a sinner and believed in Jesus Christ. Even Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him as righteousness.
And what about all the millions of people that cannot get water baptized but yet come to Christ even when their on their death bed. Like all oneness that I have known they all have a "legalistic" heart, are self-centered and love to tell others what they should do not realizing their the ones that are lost.

Tongues is a sign against those who will not hear prophecy just as the queen of heaven tradition of men but they rather do whatsoever comes from their own mouths as oral traditions of men and see no evil in doing so .

No I am not a "Oneness" Pentecostal - I have both Jesus and my Father dwelling within me by the Spirit of adoption.
Baptism is not works it is obedience; which also is not works.
When Paul writes about works he is teaching us two fundamental truths:
1: the works of the Law are no longer applicable for one walk as a Christian disciple, and
2: salvation through Jesus is of grace and mercy; God's infinite love toward us. Thus we do not enter the grace of
salvation by good works we ascribe to ourselves.
Speaking in tongues, that is praying in the Holy Spirit, is not works; it is simply praying with power.
But believing the gospel (the scriptures is not works), obedience is not works, water baptism is not works,
doing righteousness is not works, loving others is not works, baptism of the Holy Spirit is not works.
People need to start some real thinking as to what Paul and the apostles are teaching us here.

Their salvation is wholly dependant upon the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ who will judge everybody (not of the first
resurrection) before the great white throne.
But today is the day of salvation -
repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of your sins, and ask for the gift of the Holy Spirit so that you too can pray in
a new tongue - to pray in the Spirit with power as we are commanded to!

Some people do not understand, they are no different than the jews of Jesus day, The works are different (is Baptism in place of circumcision) But it is still the same old legalistic gospel of God look what I have done (religion) in place of faith. They think they are saved because they are worthy, Not because of what God did. They have yet to repent and confess they are unworthy. And come to God on their knees in humility like the tax collector. They instead are like the pharisee pumping their chest claiming how grreat they are while thanking God he is not like those who do not do these works or commit those sins etc etc.After reading your opening post it appears your a oneness pentecostal. Its sad that satan has a hold on people. Using the SAME lie.. and after 2000 years, it still works.
Believing the gospel is not works. Acts of obedience is works. Water baptism is a work. Doing righteousness is works (it's called "works of righteousness" -- Titus 3:5). Loving others/acts of charity is works. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is God's work.
If we are looking for the order of events for all mankind, we should go to Acts 2: 38, 39; these verses state that all that God shall call to Himself shall receive the Spirit upon repentance a n baptism in the name of Christ. Cornelius was the exception to this order to convince the Jewish believers that God was now accepting gentiles
The order of events for receiving the Spirit for all believers is found in Acts 2: 38, 39. Cornelius was the exception, not the rule.

Most of the time it is asked for and then recieved by laying on of hands.

Once a person recieves it,it changes everything.

But more likely they get the baptism of the Holy Spirit after water baptism.
Paul recieved the H S baptism along with his eyes healed apart from water baptism
I'm sorry to say plaintalk but Cornelius at Acts 10 is not an exception to any rule. It's an actual fact that the Gentiles like Cornelius received the gift of the Holy Spirit and this was confirmed to Peter because they spoke in tongues and then "AFTER" they were water baptized.
In fact, not everyone speaks or has the gift of tongues. Not everyone is able to get water baptized for hundreds of various reasons. Does that mean they are not saved? And yes, it is commanded to get water baptized and you should, but water baptism is an outward sign/work of an inward grace. The Apostle Paul says the following at 1 Corinthians 1:17, "For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speeeck, that the cross of Christ should not be made void.
And yes, I am well familar with 1 Peter 3:18-21 where at vs21 it says, "And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you etc. Suppose you reconcile this verse with what the Apostle Paul stated at 1 Corinthians 1:17?

The Holy Spirit pouring out His Spirit on your flesh as promised to Joel. It is the baptism of the Holy Spirit not seen .
We are baptized because we are forgiven. As with anything he must do the first work (cause and effect)we do not get baptized to be forgiven. The water of the word continually works to purify our hard hearts.
I would becarefull on how we can hear God. Tongues, God brining new prophecy in all the languages of the world is a sign against those who refuse the word of God but rather follow after the oral traditions of men .In Isiah, the foundation of tongues God is said to use stammering or mocking lips to mock those who mock him by rather trusting in the oral traditions of the fathers who refuse to listen the to the written word of God. They performed whatever their own lips desired. they simply refused to walk by the faith that comes from hearing God through the scriptures. They treated Jesus as some sort of circus seal.....Do a trick then we will believe
John 6:30They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we "may see", and believe thee? what dost thou work?
John 4:48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will "not" believe.
Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, "not to them that" believe, but to them that believe "not": but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.
