Well you youngsters make it such a big deal. In the 50s and 60s everybody had lard to cook with. Oil was just coming into common use but not as available. The Mexican mother of my best friend taught me how to make tortillas using lard. My grandmother had cans and jars of used lard she recycled. The way they speak of it now sounds like anathema.
