The Old Testament must be interpreted through the New Testament. Jesus is the Temple made without hands in the New Testament. If there is a third temple, those who believe so have already rejected Christ and his atonement, thinking they will once again sacrifice animals for sin according to Ezekiel. The strong delusion has nothing to do eschatological views, Paul qualfies his statement:

(2 Th 2:12 that they may be judged -- all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness.)

You are correct without a doubt. Dave L has a hard time with accepting that a real temple/building is being spoken of. The antichrist MUST have a temple to sit in before he can sit in a temple and show himself to be a god.
