I know a lot of people who choose dying that facing those hefty bills that will come due. I'm one of them, and I have medicare and a medigap insurance. (Notice. Still owed $400 with both.)

Question for you and all the others who are "gladly pay taxes to help them:" Exactly why are you happy to pay an entity who will waste most of the money you send them to frivolous crap, but aren't happy to donate that same money to a charity that would directly help those same people with a lot less overhead.

Strange thing, once Social Security became law, giving to charities decreased by 80%. Everyone seems so glad to pay taxes so they don't have to deal with any of it.

Odd, considering we're all talking how ineffective the government is. I personally hate paying taxes, because they are so ineffective.
And how do you know that I do not give to charity?
How do you know what my local church does to help those in need or how much I give to support that ministry?
Ten years ago, I paid less than $300 a month with a $1000 deductible and today i pay over $1200 per month with a $14,500 deductible. That is almost $29,000 out of my pocket before I get any help.
Even those with ins are suffering.

I've been told, "Don't worry about the copay," after telling them I could not afford the $400 copay, and I got up to walk out.

Somehow they thought $400 wasn't a big deal a month later. I couldn't afford $400. It wasn't like "I can't afford $400 today, but hey, no problems on Tuesday."

Yeah, just because they will treat you without medical coverage does not mean they won't bill you for it too. And then you're job is to prove -- by coming up with copies of all your bills for the last 18 months, plus proof of income for 18 months to (and making all those copies cost time and money too) -- so they can decide for you how much you could afford.

Do you really think they don't bill people, simply because they don't have insurance?
I've never had to prove nothing. I spent half my life without insurance. Paid for surgeries myself. I just tell them I'll make payments, and I do until it's paid off. Usually they call me after a few months and want to settle really cheap.

Someone should be going after the pharmaceutical companies who are basically raping the country with the cost of their drugs. Any drug which still has an active patent is ridiculously expensive and patents don't expire for 7 years after a drug is approved for market by the FDA. The exact same drug costs significantly less in Canada even if its still under patent.

Yet no one is going after big pharma. They claim that they need to charge a lot to recoup their R&D costs but then why are they only doing it to americans? Its because american politicians are easily swayed by their boozing and schmoozing. Just like the oil companies and insurance companies have been doing for decades. Give the politicians some free lavish vacations and donate a bunch to their campaigns and they won't bring any legislation against them.
Testing drugs is a very expensive process.

I work for a company that stores and sends out drugs that are being tested.

Everything is sent overnight to its destination. Often in heavy controlled temperature containers.

Product storage is in climate controlled temperature rooms/refrigerators/freezers, with restricted access.

People that handle the drugs have to be paid.

FDA and DEA regulations must be followed.

All this...and that excludes the manufacturing aspect as well as the test sites.

I don't know what the solution is, but I've learned/observed/participated in one "part" of the process.

Actually, this is the house where his hired servants work. His mansion is further in the back of his spacious acres.
How/why would his staff work there?

What I posted is what I got from a google search. Most pictures google provided suggest this is his new home.

I used a liberal source link to provide pictures, which is not my preferred choice.

Relax, my friend. I thought I would just inject a little humor in this thread. I have no doubt that this is indeed his home. :)

The combination of President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act and his
decision to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants in the United States means firms
have a $3,000-per-employee incentive to hire illegals instead of U.S. citizens,
according to November 25, 2014 report.

Illegal immigrants are now eligible for work permits but not public benefits
such as Obamacare. Since American businesses were not required to provide
them with health care, they could potentially save a possible $3,000 per worker.

the loophole had put illegal immigrants ahead of Americans in the job hunt.
Businesses to receive incentive for hiring illegal immigrants, report says | Fox News

President Barack Obama’s unilateral amnesty will quickly add as many foreign
workers to the nation’s legal labor force as the total number of new jobs created
by his economy since 2009.
Obama's Amnesty Will Add As Many Foreign Work | The Daily Caller

President Obama invoked the authority of a higher law than that of the Constitution.
He quoted the law of Moses—which says, “[T]hou shalt not oppress a stranger:
for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt”

It is true that America is a nation of immigrants. So was Israel anciently, they
always did absorb Gentiles, who became Israelites through living in Israel’s land
and intermarrying.

The U.S. has become known as the ‘melting pot’ of the world.

God permitted foreigners to immigrate to Israel, and even commanded that His
people treat them well, as the president noted. However, the same God who passed
that law said that those who immigrated were expected to follow the laws of Israel.

“You shall have the same law for the stranger and for one from your own country;
for I am the Lord your God” (New King James Version). And Numbers 15:16:

“One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourneth
with you.” This law prohibits giving special treatment to foreigners. Only those
who abide by the law of the land—not who disobey it by their very presence—
should be permitted to stay.

After telling His people not to make covenants with people from surrounding
nations, God said, “They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin
against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee”

God forbade immigration of anyone who wouldn’t accept the religion of the Israelites.

Deuteronomy 28:43-44 reads, “The stranger that is within thee shall get up above
thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. He shall lend to thee, and thou
shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.”

Ah, but readers might not get it and arrive at the wrong conclusion.

That little smiley might have been helpful in the other post.

Anyway, who cares...it's only $8 million bucks.

How do I know you don't give to a charity to help people with healthcare needs? If you do, it's not in the US. There are none. "The government helps them."

Sure they will bill you.
But you will receive medical care.
My point is when some in congress or in the media say "people will die" they are lying. It is a scare tactic.
I know there are problems that need to be addressed, but stop with the lies.

it's not so simple as "go to the emergency room because they generally treat patients before they ask for payment"
an ER will not administer preventative care, fill prescriptions or perform check-ups. if you have a tumor, for example, the ER isn't going to do anything about it other than tell you that you need to see a specialist, unless that tumor is to the point that your life is in danger unless you are operated on. at which point it may be too late. you won't be able to go to the ER monthly to manage your condition; you'll have to wait until it's out of control.

or take the simple example of a toothache. maybe you have a cavity that needs to be filled. no ER is going to do anything about that -- you have to wait until it is abscessed, at which point the tooth is lost and you are in danger of dying from the infection, before an ER will remove the tooth and try to save you.

or a heart condition that can be managed with drugs and other care. you can't go to the ER to keep an eye on it. you have to wait until you've had a heart attack, and then the ER will do what it can to keep you alive - and then tell you that you need to go see a cardiologist regularly.

a big reason that ER's are overcrowded?
people treating them like they are a general practitioner's office. you can't manage your diabetes by 'going to the ER' every time you fall into a coma. that's not 'managing' & that's not what emergency rooms are for

There was a little corner store we used to go to run by three brothers. Their mother became disabled from Hepatitis C. Since she was on Disability, they wouldn't treat it. (Medicare wouldn't. Medicaid would.) Hepatitis means "inflammation of the liver." It's caused by a virus that starts slowly and gradually runs rampant. And it tends to get to rampant stage 7-15 years later. Her liver was inflamed for so long, it was dying. THAT they would treat. She got a new liver.

Pretty impressive, huh? Well, yeah, she got a new liver with the same virus running around her blood stream, already rampant, so she would need a new liver every 3-5 years to keep her alive.

That's the intelligence of the government "taking care of the poor."

Here's the thing. Persuaded, you claim you would be glad to help others, and you pay $29,000 a year for healthcare coverage. Did you NEED $29,000 worth of healthcare in that year? Was it worth the money? No? I really hope you're able to say No. So why are you glad to be overcharged to help others? Especially when helping others is done so poorly?

When we were first married, we had insurance, but we rarely need the insurance. Regular doctor visits, (which doesn't mean just check-ups. I also mean seeing the doctor for bronchitis, UTIs, and intestinal bugs), we just paid out of pocket. I was only $17, (when his price went up.) Why bother the insurance company for so little? And he wasn't big into insurance to pay for visits, so he had his office in his house, and hired a woman as receptionists/nurse/billing/anything else.

And then the government stepped into "regulation mode." Same office, but then he needed seven women to do the insurance billing. They had about 10 feet by 12 feet to work in. Try doing anything with six other people in that kind of space. (You could say he just needed giving up space in his house, but his family was still growing. At the same time the seventh child was in the process of being born, while first child was going off to college.) And now add files too. He moved south where those requirements weren't needed.

Regulations keep getting added. My primary now cannot prescribe narcotics. One of her patients had surgery and three days later, (Friday afternoon), she was still in a lot of pain, and called the doctor for pills to last her through the weekend. The doctor called it in to the pharmacy, but the federal government told the pharmacy not to fill it. That much regulation!

Medical care is no longer given by doctors. It's given by regulators -- to the poor and anyone else.

You want the government to fix this? They're the ones who caused it!

In a few hours, I'm going up to get my goiter shrunk. If I get it done in a hospital where if anything goes wrong, someone is right there to fix it. $400 copay. If I could get it done in a "health center" it would be a $200 copay. How stupid is that? And why can the insurance company do that? Because you HAVE to pay $29,000 a year for insurance. Choice flew out the window decades ago. You simply haven't noticed. And, as it stands now, the only dog you have in this fight is a hope that your health insurance goes down soon.

I'm to the stage of hoping care itself goes up soon. I've been disabled since 1999. I don't have much hope in that. After all, it keeps getting worse and worse and that's caused by Republicans and Democrats who think they know better than doctors or patients. Funny thing. No one is arguing that point. Too busy talking cost and fix.

I am not at all happy with our health care system.
I am very aware of the waste and out right theft that is apart of this government system.
The more involved the government get, the worse it will get.
The fact that people like me have to pay such a ridiculous amount is evidence of just how broken it became under Obama Care.
I thank God every day that my family has not had to use it.

It was ridiculous before we even heard of some guy named Obama. The only thing he did was make it worse. Considering we have someone with absolutely no idea how to run a country as President now, it's going to keep getting worse.

The first president I experienced making it worse was G.W. The media said old people on Medicare were crossing over to Canada to afford their prescriptions. Well, frankly? I can't help the fact that some people are stupid. I could afford all my prescriptions back then because I bought medigap insurance that off set the cost. It cost $50 a month -- roughly the same price as catching a bus to and from Canada at the time. And there was no doughnut hole.

But, G.W. "helped" me, and the next year my insurance doubled and I had to cut out some of the prescriptions (I gave up synthroid and HRT), so I wouldn't have to pay all of it when I hit the doughnut hole. Add to that, copays doubled, and coverage was cut in half.

AND add to that, although Congress "helped" people in pain by ordering doctors and hospitals to treat pain, John Ashcroft started arresting doctors for prescribing pain meds.

Honestly? I can't afford the government helping me anymore. Every time they do, it cost me more for less, and one thing for certain, they only understand what COL raises are when it comes to their salaries, not when it comes to SS benefits. They use the exact same data to calculate their pay raises and mine. They keep getting them. I don't.
