I did not say he misspoke in all the other places just that he was speaking in shorthand. Jesus spoke many things that are not in scripture for if they all were recorded they would fill the whole world. Maybe Mark was the one editing what was commonly known by his readers. Study the early...

I am not saying the Holy Spirit cannot come before baptism. I am just saying their sins were forgiven when they received water baptism.

So he misspoke in Mk 16:16? Maybe in all those other places he was speaking in shorthand knowing that his audience knew baptism was necessary.

One further question. Why did Peter and John have to go lay hands on those people who had been baptized and the they had not received the Holy Spirit?

Why does Jesus command us to believe and be baptized separately in Mk 16:16 if the latter is an automatic part of the first?

See if this is right. God gives the grace of faith to an unbeliever. They are immediately baptized with the Holy Spirit. This is the baptism that remits sins. Then later the new Christian receives water baptism to publicly profess he is a Christian.

I do not know the verse but it seems like I remember the Holy Spirit coming on people after they were baptized in water. Here is an entry on Baptism from Harpers Bible Dictionary Baptism baptism, rite involving water. The term is derived from a Greek word meaning ‘to immerse in or wash with...

You also said you were not anti-Catholic. Is that true or did you also not say that in 67205?

I am sorry you feel deceived. In post 67205 the first thing I said to you was that I was a devout Catholic. justforcatholics.org is not a Catholic website but an anti-Catholic site. The walls of Catholic doctrine I posted was to show you why I was a devout Catholic. I expected you to respond...

A uniquely Catholic doctrine is that of the Eucharist. A couple of things need to be established before we get into the text in question Jn 6:51-69. First, recorded in the Gospels in a couple of places Jesus says something figurative and his disciples misunderstand and take him literally. Jesus...

I do believe that the elect are predestined for heaven. I do not believe the repprobate are predestined for hell. They go there because of their own fault. I would really like to hear your story if that is not asking too much. How old were you? What doctrines did you first have doubts...

I am a devout Catholic trying to understand the multitude of beliefs of my Protestant brothers and sisters. The link I referenced gave all the right verses to support OSAS but then they said that "many" have false assurance. It seems to me that Bible Christians are no more sure of their...

Could I trouble you to read a tract defending OSAS. http://www.justforcatholics.org/a72.htm I was shocked to read that "many" have a false assurance of salvation. My question is that do you really know until you are on your deathbed if you have persevered to the end.

I apologize. I cannot find the post. But me tying sanctification to salvation does sound like something I would say. I was probably thinking of Mt 25 and the people who did good work go to heaven and those not doing good work going to hell.
