Making a case for women in leadership

First, I give primacy to the sayings of Jesus. Second, I understand that Jesus is saying the Jesus is the ultimate source of truth. Third, I accept that Jesus was occasionally a tad idealistic for this fallen world... Forth, I accept that Jesus does not seem to have the formal education that...

Matthew 23:8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. NIV Matthew 23:8 "But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. " NKJV Note: Rabbi is the Hebrew word for teacher, and Mary Magdeleine...

Making a case for women in leadership

I know that God also called on Judge Deborah to lead the Israelite army into battle, which implies authority, and authority over men. So, yes, God has called others. But IMHO we are back to the teachings of Jesus, and Jesus AFAIK did not use the word authority for anyone other than Peter. And...

Making a case for women in leadership

Yes. But that is why much earlier I pointed out that Peter died, probably in 64AD. Would you argue that Peter declared any bindings or loosing's after 64AD????

Making a case for women in leadership

Back in post#220 I said " Personally, I am 100% confident looking Jesus in the eye and saying I accepted the administrative authority of that humble woman because I believed that the Holy Spirit was moving powerfully within her. So, help me God!" So I am describing how I have zero problem with...

I will clarify. Peter negated the dietary laws of the OT with immediate effect. IMHO that is why he was given the keys. After he died, Jesus took them back Revelation 1:18.

Making a case for women in leadership

All good! But I would contrast that with say a Bishop offering an opinion on say contraception. I accept their right to have and freely express their views, tagged with their office (shepherds leading with their voice). However, personally, I do not feel that any church officer has any authority...

Making a case for women in leadership

I believe that Peter was given authority to make judgements as to (say) continued application & interpretation of the Mosaic Law. I believe that Peter exercised that authority in Acts, declaring all foods to be clean (lawful to eat). I believe that Peter died, probably in 64AD. I do not believe...

Making a case for women in leadership

I accept leaders, and overseers as guides, but these verses do not create a power of authority. Otherwise, they contradict Matthew 23:8. Jesus gave very clear lessons on servant leadership. Matthew 20:25-26. We should not ignore those lessons, nor Matthew 23:8.

The Difference Between Authority and Leadership https://theleadershipsphere.com.au/insights/the-difference-between-authority-and-leadership/ As I see it, Jesus was an Inspirational leader and not an Authoritative leader. Jesus constantly downplayed his Authority until near the end of His...

Jesus said "Feed my sheep". Not "Fleece my sheep"... Sadly some misheard.

I am calling out that "authority" as unbiblical. I refer to Matthew 23:8. As I see it the overseer is a guide, who as a shepherd leads the flock by their voice, but Matthew 23:8 points to no hierarchy of Believers.

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Thank you for that very helpful tip! I had reached the conclusion that Intersection was a paid troll, tasked with picking up a Profile and making as many posts as possible, to get the Profile tagged "Well known member", so that it could be used by others at a later date as part of a foreign...

Making a case for women in leadership

The female Apostle Junia, being Jewish, and being in Christ before Paul, may have had an established ministry when Paul first arrived in her location (Caesarea?). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junia_(New_Testament_person)

Making a case for women in leadership

This thread has made me reflect on how this works in the Salvation Army. The women elected to be our Overseers are effectively business / mission managers. The cells (4-12) of fellow Believers into which Soldiers self-select are the primary pastoral carers and instruments of church discipline...

If someone knowingly chooses to believe false doctrine,

Simply responding to responses with that line just confuses people more as to what you are trying to say!

Making a case for women in leadership

Basically I am pointing to the hypocrisy of those who criticise the election of female overseers as unbiblical, but who would defend the unbiblical practices of our "shepherds" somehow "feeding the lambs" while living like Princes in Palaces... Personally, I am 100% confident looking Jesus in...
