Once we have realized we are dead to sin. We can move to the next part of repentance which is what we "turn toward". Remember it is Truth that sets us free because we are free.
The truth? We are now dead to sin and alive to righteousness in Christ.
Moving on to 1 John 1:8 now...

One of the biggest reasons people still struggle with sin is because they don't believe they are a new creation. They are taught that they are somehow sinners and saints, which is not true. The old stuff is GONE.
