Then obedience is the result of "no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me".
So the power to live the godly life cannot be credited to us but to God, yes? If not for grace and the Holy Spirit at work in our life, obedience would be impossible, yes?
“Then obedience is the result of "no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me".
What’s that actually mean though I know Paul said that of himself but what’s it mean to say that of yourself ?
“So the power to live the godly life cannot be credited to us but to God, yes? “
credit ? We wouldn’t even exist if not for God creating us of his own Will and for his own good purpose , credit always goes to God he’s the source of our life and existsnce and of course our redemption and salvation he’s the author. it’s why we thank him and praise him for all he’s done for us . I don’t think anyone’s talking about who gets credit and it’s not stealing Gods credit to say that we need to repent and obey God .
It is what he’s trying to accomplish to get a person to stop ignoring his word tbat is all around them thier chrirtian friend shares it or it’s on the dusty bibke they haven’t opened since granny bought it for them a few years ago . In the church on the corner , and these modern days ….in bibke discussion forums on line .
He’s never told man “ don’t think you need to do good and not evil or you’ll perish “ instead he’s always said the same thing and wants us to hear and believe it so we will act upon it in faith
hes saying if you do what’s right you’ll be acceptable , but if you don’t do what’s right sin is going to destroy you . Choose life and good . He said that to the first born man and he says it throughout the gospel and New Testament in ways like this
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.”
Romans 6:16, 19
It’s not stealing credit from God , study and onoe learn and believe his word and act on it , it’s what he wants us to do , one of the results of obedience is constant prayer and praise to the lord that just comes flowing out of a grateful heart when we realize “ I can be free of that thing that’s been a bondage in my life for years in Christ , he really has t he power to set me free from sins dominion if I believe him
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:31-32, 34, 36
your question of credit in my opinion goes to God and more specifically the name of Jesus who suffered and died for our sins and rose up again and gave those who hear and believe the gospel , his spirit because his spirit is in the gospel message when they hear and believe ….
“And
he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is
he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
While Peter
yet spake these words,
the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.”
Acts 10:42-44 KJV
When the gospel is being spoken and people are hearing it or reading and learning it Jesus spirit is in the message so if we believe he’s coming into our heart through the gospel
“For I am not ashamed of
the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For
therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written,
The just shall live by faith.”
Romans 1:16-17
aid we were to learn the gospel of Matthew mark Luke and John we would t have any question who the credit goes to brother . It’s a misperception that repenting and obeying God is something that steals glory from him . It’s what he’s calling us to do as humans
look who his doctrine reaches out to
“But their scribes and Pharisees murmured against his disciples, saying,
Why do ye eat and drink with publicans and sinners? And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but
they that
are sick. I came not
to call the righteous, but
sinners to repentance.”
Luke 5:30-32
If a person hears that call and responds it’s not taking Gods credit or glory from him , it’s honoring his Will. That he’s been calling for mankind to do forever since Eden
Gods Will will always be for man to think “ I need to do good and not evil or eventually I’ll perish “
“Blessed is the
man that endureth temptation: for
when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
but every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then
when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
James 1:12, 14-15 KJV
“I tell you, Nay: but,
except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
Luke 13:3
We can’t think to believe what he said and respond somehow means we’re saving iurselves and get the credit we need to look at Jesus as the lord and he’s telling us the truth that he said will save us
